The room was actually perfect for our needs - two of us needed to go at 4am to Punakaiki the next day and two didn't leave until check out. Because of the way this room was setup, we were able to leave relatively quietly at 4am without disturbing our friends. We liked the private bathroom as well, and the kitchenette was very handy, though we didn't use it very much at all! The property is older but has some nice charm and is a good, quiet, comfortable stay that we thoroughly enjoyed. We would come back.

The kettle in the room looks a bit yuck! The door handle of our room was also about to fall off on the inside. It would have been nice to have a door or curtain even between the two spaces in our room to separate the double bed from the two twins and kitchenette. The deck at the back entry feels very flexible...!

Staying at Brunnerton was great! John (the owner) makes sure your stay is going to be pleasant and is ready to help with anything is in his hands. Best deal for pribate rooms around. Nice big house with complete kitchen equipment and cosy living room, we stayed for 2 nights and back for an other 2 after going hiking for few days. John let us leave the car at his place too, so it was in a safe space.

Location is not in town but if you have a vehicule is less than 10 minutes drive and very quiet town. Easy to hitchike too!

Affordable place to stay not too far from Greymouth, Punakaiki and Arthur's Pass. We stayed for a night, and John was very kind and helpful during our stay. The rooms were a bit cold as we couldn't get the heater working, but was quickly fixed. The kitchen and lounge area is very homely and luckily we were the only ones using it during our stay!

The window in the bathroom did not shut properly which meant it was very cold in the bathroom, and there was a cold draft coming into the bedroom

This place will be perfect for many. The property is old, yes, it's true ... but John and Brian are absolutely "salt of the Earth" kind of people will make you feel like you're coming home after your day's adventures and will go out of their way to make you feel so at home and comfortable. The wood burner and open fireplace are cosy in the winter, the rooms are well set up with heating and the bathrooms are also very functional - two bathrooms ... I never had to wait. I was very, very happy with my decision to stay here and I'll be back if I come back to the area. Thanks John and Brian!

Absolutely nothing.

I liked the character of the building and especially the rooms we stayed in. The artwork, mirror, lamp etc added to the atmosphere & age of the place. Interesting resident staying there also. I liked the selection of books in the hallway.

Gap under bathroom window and the fridge froze some of our drinks & food- I adjusted the setting but didn't help. Otherwise, all good

Have you ever seen a movie where they head to a family holiday home or something? This is what Brunnerton is like it like comming home. It's so homely and comfy don't be fooled because it's such a relaxing place. The owners are absolutely incredible its so quiet and relaxing no pressure, no responsibilities. The cooking facilities where great I just felt right at home. Close to almost everything, beds are comfortable and warm with heating and electric blankets. Affordable, accessible, comfortable and home away from home.

How far from my real home it is haha! I wish this place was more accessible to our home in duneidn. We will stay here every time we venture to the coast.

The place was exactly as expected—simple and not fancy, but it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It’s a unique and historical spot, and for the price, it was absolutely worth it. The host was very welcoming and made our stay even better. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a budget-friendly and memorable experience.

Great room. Loads of space for en suite bathroom and kitchen plus bedroom all in one area. Well equipped and clean with good facilities. Outside area comfortable with loads of chairs to relax. Chickens roaming. Loads of carpark area. Location is good, just outside Greymouth, local old mine memorial just down the road. River access close by as well. John the owner was lovely and anxious to please everyone and meet us all. Would recommend.

The friendliness of the owner/ staff was just next level. I’ve stayed for a night to start the Paparoa track the next day. I could also book transport through them. Would highly recommend, such lovely people with a big heart for the place, it was wonderful to get to know them. Bed was nice and comfy, lovely little village. Would definitely stay again, thank you!

Great family-friendly accommodation for those on a budget. The hosts were welcoming and friendly. We will definitely stay again. Loved being able to interact with other guests as much, or as little as we wanted, with the lounge area. Bonus was the free-range eggs available for a minimal cost from the property's hens.
