We just loved the charm about the place. It was cosy, quirky and comfortable. It had a lovely relaxed warmth and a great location. We spent the afternoon exploring the local forest walks and enjoyed the fantastic array of whiskies on offer at the bar. Can’t wait to go back…maybe next time we’ll get acquainted with the ghosts 😍

The breakfast was self serve and had a good selection - they offered a warm buffet but the eggs and bacon had been sitting a while and were rubbery. It would also be nice to be served fresh tea and coffee.

The staff were very pleasant, The food was excellent and the pod was clean and very comfortable.it is in a lovely location with beautiful views across Loch Eck.

We were booked into a room in the main building but the steep winding staircase was impossible for my husband and our dogs to negotiate. We were lucky enough to be able to move to the pod but as it was already booked for the second night of our stay we had to leave after one night and we didn’t get any money back.

Lovely country Inn, cosy bar with real fire. Excellent food and barman was lovely

Hot breakfast could have been better- expected a full cooked breakfast. Only had bacon, scrambled egg and you make your own toast- plastic plates (?). There was cereal, orange juice, cheese and salami for continental

The staff were absolutely lovely, we enjoyed a good dinner, despite being late due to the ferry. The views over Loch Eck are stunning, the whole place is very atmospheric. They really couldn't have been more helpful.

Dinner orders closed at 8 which put us under a lot of time pressure because the ferry was late do to a very low tide. Lovely front office Ben did his best to work around it for us and we were fed but it was stressful. There was confusion about whether we could sit in the bar or the restaurant and we trooped between the two four times! The rooms and en suites do need updating. We struggled to sleep with the noise of the lorries barrelling right past the window through the night. The stairs up to the rooms are madly steep, don't try to carry a case up and down.

Beautiful old inn with lots of preserved history. Very scenic in keeping with the surroundings and lots of dining by the windows looking onto the loch. Very dog friendly, made to feel right at home but tight seating as it’s an old building so if your dog is not great with other dogs you may want to rethink bringing them. Loved the open fire in the bar.

Not much really. The check in and out process was not really explained and we have no stay information provided in our pod. We had to go find someone to figure out how we check in and get the key. Very casual atmosphere. No check in or out times on booking.com for them until you get your reservation.

Cosy inn with good food! The bed in the pod was extremely comfortable. The atmosphere was very welcoming, and they were very accommodating with our dogs. Great location with lots of lovely walks nearby. Wish we'd stayed for longer, maybe we'll come back in summer to try the paddle boards/kayaks!

In one of the bedrooms in the inn, a glass of coke and a bathroom cleaning product was left on the bedside table. Also, the pod didn't have sponges or washing up liquid which made washing up quite difficult

Quaint old inn located on a small loch. The building is dated, but our room was fully featured, good bed, looked out over the loch, with a modern bathroom, serving a good continental breakfast. Being an inn and pub, it's buzzing in the evenings which makes for a nice atmosphere and good dining.

The room, shower and toilet had a low ceiling for me, being 2.15m tall, as I could not stand up straight anywhere. For taller people might feel a bit cramped, but in hindsight that could have been expected with an old inn. Would be nice if it was mentioned.

Historic old inn in a wonderful setting. Manages to keep the old world charm with up to date facilities. Visitors must be aware of the quirks of an historic building; it was great for us but you should check with the inn if you have mobility issues. Very dog friendly which was essential for us. We stayed in the new Glamping Pod which had everything we needed. Internet connection could be intermittent but this is fairly normal for rural Scotland. Good centre for exploring the Cowal Peninsula and beyond. Good food and large portions. Inn also offers water based activities in the loch (Loch Eck) just in front of the inn. April however was a bit chilly for us being in the water! Owners and staff very friendly and attentive. We used to live/work near Dunoon - The Coylet was one of our regular evenings out venues. Couldn't resist going back 50 years on! Still just as good!

Nothing not to like.

We chose the chalet, and had a lovely view of the Loch. Private access, some basic cooking facilities, a fridge and a cosy pod with a comfortable bed. Enjoyed our stay there. Breakfast lacked any fruit sadly, but all else was good. We arrived just too late for supper as the kitchen was closing but they kindly offered to make us food if we wished ( we didn't as we had planned for a late arrival) but we were grateful for the offer

Glamping pod small and cooking facilities piled together in a cupboard under the sink. Squeeze to get into bed as against the wall both sides, bathroom small, but it is a pod so to be expected
