Beautiful Historic building with great location right on famed Powell St, just few steps from Union Square. Recently renovated.

Sadly, Union Square is not the elegant happening place it used to be. The homeless situation and security issues have gotten out of hand in San Fransico, hurting business. I question the room size specified at 215 sq. ft. Space is really tight. According to my estimates it’s closer to 190 sq. ft. (including tiny bathroom and closet). Avoid rooms ending in 04, which seem to have the worst proportions. You can hardly walk across the foot of the bed, as it’s only 2 ft. from the wall to the bed.

Great location walking distance to Wharf and shopping district. Old historic hotel with toons of charm!!

Plumbing went out for about 30 mins but was handled quickly

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with a short vacation in San Francisco. Staying at the Beacon Hotel in such a central location within walking distance of great food in Chinatown, easy access to public transportation for sightseeing, and the gracious hotel staff made the experience wonderfully memorable. Doris at the reception desk and the day manager even upgraded our room and sent a bottle of wine and chocolates! I loved the fully equipped gym to start my day. My husband loved the wood floors because he hates smelly, dirty wall-to-wall carpeting. The bed, pillows, and towels were all first-rate. The lighting allowed for actual reading or dimming. The cleaning staff was always cheerful and helpful and made the gorgeous building sparkle even on a rainy day. We appreciate the Beacon Hotel's sustainable practices. There were no plastic cups or plastic bags. Instead, we had refillable water bottles by the bedside that we took on our city walks, paper cups for our coffee, and reusable glasses in the bathroom. We will definitely return.

Nice grand entrance, bar & restaurant to the hotel - it's recently been refurbished and it didn't feel like it was taping over any cracks. Arrived earlier than check in but the concierge found a room for us which was a blessing after the previous place. Rooms are tastefully decorated, bed is the most comfortable I've slept on ever. Writing desk with history of the hotel are nice touches. All amenities functioned well. The refillable water bottles were a nice touch and having water points on each floor was an extra benefit. Would recommend to any and all.

Water leaked from the shower to under the sink, water bottles had some dust on the lid the night we arrived. After the second day of stay, we left bed sheets on the floor but we put a little mark with a pen to check if sheets were effectively changed. When we returned from our city tour, the room was “clean” but the sheets on the bed had the same little mark, which means they WERE NOT CHANGED!

The property is in the heart of Union Square maybe 1 or 2 blocks at most for great shopping, food, and the cable cars. The property itself is stunning. The update was much needed and it turned out beautifully. We had the king suite, city view and it was also in immaculate shape and style.

The shower head sucks… I have really long hair and the worst thing is trying to wash it with little water pressure

I travelled to San Francisco in July 2024 with my husband and two kids (ages 11yrs and 16yrs). We stayed at the Beacon Grand for 4 nights. It was the perfect launchpad for exploring the city. The hotel is located bang in the middle of the city just off Union Square (Apple Store, Macy's etc) within walking distance of China Town, North Beach, Embardadero & Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39. Regular visitors to SF warned us about the centre and the numbers of drugs addicts nearby in the Tenderloin - however, as we travelled with kids, we were usually back at the hotel by 6pm and barely saw any junkies! The family room itself was spacious with comfy beds. The decor of the hotel is lovely with high ceilings and modern decor within a traditional old building. Lots of shopping and eating options all a stone's throw from the hotel. I'd highly recommend this excellent hotel, it was great value for money.

We honestly can't fault anything about the hotel, we loved it!

The bed was amazingly comfortable. The bar area is lovely and Casey the barman was brilliant. We liked getting the refillable water bottle and the water stations for fill ups. Good sustainable solution. The room was large and very bright with large windows. The Starlight bar was good fun and worth a visit.

The windows wouldn't stay open in the room. We had to prop them open. There is so little hanging space- just enough for about 3 hangers, which is no good if you are staying 6 days. Whilst the room is huge, it's not that comfortable for relaxing or watching TV based on where the chairs are located (a single relaxing chair and one upright one for the desk). The refurbishment is limited so the corridors are very gloomy and the painting in the rooms is pretty slapdash. One of the reception staff was very unaccomodating and unfriendly.

The hotel is beautiful and it has an exceptional location. The staff is friendly and supportive. The hotel provides a daily clean service for the room with a very good quality, the ladies were very kind. The place has four elevators and that works well for not spending a lot of time moving between floors. The beds were comfortable and the TV worked well with a decent range of channels. The gym is well equipped and clean. They also storage our luggage until we have to go to the airport. Kudos because they gave bottles of water in the room and the water refill service in the fourth floor.

The closet is small for the size of the room but they have a chest that gives you more options to keep the clothes. The bathroom is also small but works well and it was so clean.
