LOVED the location. The room was so nice and spacious. The staff was kind and safely stored our bags while we went out in the city for the last day. I wouldn't say there's anything super fancy about the hotel and it is an older building but it was very clean and comfortable for our family. The balcony and windows that open were an AWESOME bonus! :) ALSO, I didn't know until after we had arrived that the parking in the garage was only $17 (maybe check ahead as this could have been a special offer for the holiday. We took the train to avoid the typical $65-a-night charge for parking that most hotels in SF offer so we didn't use it but, having this option is nice!

While my kids thought their beds (Queen size) were comfortable and had noticeably plush bedding, the king-size bed my husband and I slept in was extremely hard and uncomfortable, with very thin blankets. I'm not sure why or if our bed was a fluke. I do know my back and hips were in a lot of pain each morning. Maybe I'm just getting old..haha! EVERYTHING else was just perfect and the missing star was solely because of this.

Great location for everything. High end shops right on the doorstep. Trams just around the corner. Bars and restaurants a short walk away.

Bed was very hard. Cleaner came before 8.30am. Our room overlooked an alleyway with leaking drainpipes and walls.

Comfy beds, good showers, good sized rooms. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Great part of town in Union Square, 5 minute walk to the cable car turnpoint, close to shopping and restaurants, train staion 5 minute walk.

Fitness centre needs upgrading. No strength machines, just a few free weights and cardio equipment. Parking is absolutely exorbitant. 3 days parking was $230 USD.

The hotel is in a great location on Union Square, the rooms were big and clean, we were in the historic building so they weren’t modern but had everything you needed.

It’s overpriced for what it is but you get that a lot in San Francisco, there is also a City Tax charge per night that booking.com don’t advise you about.

In general, the management staff were excellent except for one. He was very dismissive when I told him that the thermostat was not working. When I tried to give further details he stated that he already told me that he already me he would take care of it. He was very arrogant; I can understand if he had a bad day but I remember that he was snippy the last time I came in that year ( 6 months ago). He should learn better customer relations.

The Handlery Union Square Hotel is amazing! It’s right in the heart of Union Square, making it super convenient for shopping, restaurants, and everything San Francisco has to offer. The room was way more comfortable than I expected for an older hotel, and the bed was so cozy. The staff were fantastic—they let us check in early at 10 a.m. and gave us a late check-out at 1 p.m., which I’ve never experienced anywhere else. We stayed for seven days, and everything was great from start to finish. I’ll definitely stay here again!

Great location. So close the Union Square and cable car. Good restaurants in walking distance. Loved the business centre, really cosy and warm.

Floors very creaky, could hear every step from the room above. Guest must have been pacing day and night and we could hear the walking all day. Also, guests in the next room had an all night party until 5am on the Saturday night guests opening and closing door, talking, we didn’t get any sleep. Didn’t bother complaining as we had encountered a few grumpy staff during the weeks stay so didn’t think they would care. Not the hotels fault, just exhausting.

Beautifully situated in Union Square the hotel is handy for everything. The cable car runway starts just around the corner and you can easily access all of the local attractions on foot or on public transport. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need in them - iron, kettle, amenities etc. Rooms are cleaned daily and the offer of more sustainable housekeeping is offered to you. The staff were nothing but courteous and couldn't do more to help. A special shout out to Joyce who from check in to check.out was amicable, friendly, professional and caring. Hotel has a historic building and a premier building and both have their own styles and qualities. Pool area is well maintained and offers a little escape from the Sam Francisco hustle and bustle.

There is nothing I can say for the hotel that I didn't enjoy. There were obviously some external issues but the staff couldn't have been more helpful.

- Good location, close to BART station - The room was clean and there were a lot of towels - Good value for the money

- The room service people entered a milisecond after knocking without my approval. You could at least give me time to answer. - The noisy from the strike accross the street is quite distrurbing. They start early morning and stop just before the midnight. Hardly the hotel's fault, but it's affecting the overall experience significantly - The waterpressure on the shower wasn't good - The aircon system is quite weak and never achieves the temperature stated on the sensor even when the fan is set to high.

This hotel was brilliant. The local was really central and easy to get to. It had a safe in the room and was clean. The staff are so helpful and quick. The air con is little old fashioned but once we were shown how it works, it worked really well for us. And the corridors and bathrooms are a bit old fashioned but it is a historic building and has been a hotel since 1928! It also has a pool, which was clean and a bonus really for a city break hotel. The hotel doesn't serve breakfast but they do offer a 20% off a local cafe which we used twice.

Overall it was good. But I think if I had known there were rooms around the pool I would avoid these. I don't know how busy the pool is at night but I would have felt a bit exposed being in one of these rooms. We weren't! We were well away from it. But something to consider!
