We loved this property. The room was exceptional, large and comfortable with an enormous bathroom. Very comfortable bed. Fabulous breakfast and excellent evening meal; all freshly prepared and cooked with a varied menu for both meals. The location was exceptional. A little off the beaten track as we were travelling the NC 500, but the journey was breath taking and worth while. The outside of the building was in the process of decoration but this did not impact our stay and did not reflect the inside of the property. The host was lovely as was the chef; thank you. Would love to return as this was our very favourite hotel.

Although we were more than satisfied with every aspect of our stay, the host mentioned that our room was due to be refurbished!

We stayed here for one night and wished we had been able to stay longer. When you drive into the property, don't let it fool you. We wondered what we were getting ourselves into. But, wow, when we walked in the door, we were very pleased. The main floor has beautiful, cozy lounges to relax, have a drink, read a book, etc. As others have mentioned, the 'resident' stag was in the yard, just watching us arrive. What a treat! Our room (Hope) was very big, beautiful decor to go with the period hotel; the bed was very comfortable and we had a great sleep. The bathroom is big and very modern, even with heated floors! Our dinner and breakfast were tasty, the staff were very attentive, in particular Valentine, the fellow at the desk, who also is the bartender during dinner. So very friendly and made us feel welcome. We absolutely loved staying at this beautiful hotel and if you have time, we recommend staying more than one night, for some relaxation in a country setting.

There aren't any towns or anything near the hotel, if you were hoping to go shopping, etc. You really are out in the middle of nowhere, but that isn't a deterrent, because it's a beautiful property and very relaxing and quiet.

The hotel looked a bit tired on the outside but step inside and you are just in the most welcoming and comfortable place. The lounge area with its open fire and comfy settees was just wonderful. The dining room and food were just amazing. We were even treated to 3 stags coming down from the fields to walk past the window. The rooms were really nice and well equipped with everything you need. The staff are really welcoming and friendly. A truly authentic hotel with decor to match its history. Definitely worth a visit and would highly recommend.

There was nothing we didn’t like. Everything was spot on.

Great location - really away from it all. Lovely walking from hotel along the roads. Stag in the garden in the morning a bonus. Great hosting from Alan who talked us though some whiskies. Lovely evening meal. Great views from the room. Room nicely decorated.

This is a unique hotel in a very remote spot in the flow country so I'm reluctant to criticise in any way as our stay was great - I found the bed was on a slight slope along with the floor upstairs which was a little disconcerting - but hey - what a location!

Very good food. Excellent breakfast. No vegetarian available on the dinner menu but the chef managed to rustle up a suitable alternative. Old Victorian hotel full of character with some expensive, quality furnishings. The building is a little frayed around the edges but this adds to the charm. In a wonderful location at the head of the Loch. Traditional base for fishing.

Bed a little too soft and sagging. Had to ask for a room change because I was allocated one adjacent to a very noisy kitchen extractor. It wasn't a problem though.

The hotel is an old hunting lodge, very comfortable with lighted fires if you don't have a dog with you. It shows all the signs of luxurious living in the passed.

Long flight of stairs and a bath over the shower although I had been in touch about my disabilities and I could have been warned before I got there and had a choice to go somewhere else. Also, if you have a dog there is no elegant, comfy place to sit. You go in the Gillies bar which is heavy wooden furniture which I couldn't move - it was very uncomfortable.

We booked the Clan Chieftain room which was spacious with a large bathroom. The bathroom was exceptional - heated floor, oversized bathtub, and modern. We had a good dinner - sharing the sea bass (yum) and rum cake (more yum). I loved how friendly all the staff were to us, striking up friendly conversation and offering help even when they were off the clock. Between the friendly staff and the other guests (mostly fisherman), it didn't feel like a hotel, but like we were staying with friends.

It appears that the owners/managers are struggling, like many in the hospitality industry at present, to find sufficient staff. However, that wasn’t really apparent here as one never felt ignored and the service at dinner and breakfast was excellent and not at all slow. Meals were of a high standard and the bedroom was comfortable and well-appointed. The resident’s lounge and the bar both had open fires and were ideal places to relax. One was made to feel very welcome and that one’s custom was valued. I would happily return.

The location was slightly out of the way as we were travelling the north coast 500 but we were very glad we had the chance to experience this unique hotel. It has an old world charm about it that is sadly disappearing in our modern world. The staff were very welcoming and the open fire was an added bonus on a damp evening. Our lasting memory was the food we had that evening, exceptional would be an under statment. Breakfast did not disappoint next morning. We will be back.

Nothing to report.

The level of service from Valentin was exceptional his level of attention is a golden asset to the hotel. Followed up with exceptional food from the chef. Honest and tasty. Previous reviews mention the place is dated. It is and that's the charm of the place! It's an old hunting lodge not an inner city boutique! Get involved, have a drink by the fire, mingle with the guests. Ask the locals questions. Truly good people and a great stay.
