Staff were fantastic - our flight was delayed a day due to a massive storm, but the overnight desk staff reassured me and set aside our room keys so that we were able to check in quickly the next morning. The parking is super secure and convenient. The room was very comfortable and housekeeping were great about changing towels, cleaning up or leaving us be as needed. The breakfast buffet was convenient, and staff can provide gluten free options and alternative milks for no additional charge.

We didn't love the bathroom - it stayed a bit musty after use, and the shower temperature jumped wildly from minute to minute. It wasn't a major inconvenience and may have just been our room. The breakfast buffet was a little limited and repetitive but again, not a major inconvenience.

Easy to charge devices as power points were accessible at the right height and there were enough of them. Clean, well looked after and had all the facilities we liked especially the ground floor dining and lounge area where we breakfasted in the morning and had drinks and dinner in the evenings. Happy hour, the drinks available for it and the staff looking after us were great. Morning breakfast was good, especially the self serve coffee.

The bathroom was not well isolated from the bedroom so in the middle of the night if one of us went to the bathroom and switched on the light, the other person would wake up from the lights and noise.

This place is quite close to the Newcastle Interchange where you can enter Newcastle by train from Sydney and get to places from there by lightrail. The hotel is modern, clean and with bar service till midnight. The staff is of the friendliest you can think of. So great compliments to them !!

We had room 434 which is equipped for disabled guest (which we not are) and for the bathroom we would have liked it more not to have a shower curtain in that room. The room was also connected with a door (that’s locked) to the next room. That door isn’t sound proof and (not the best) noise from neighbouring guests can get quite disturbing. So try to avoid getting room 434 or a similar kind of room.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Express. It was very quiet, central location and the in-house car park ($20 per day) was a plus too. The breakfast starts early at 6.30 am, which suits me very well when on a business trip. We also loved the bathroom with the shower, very great idea to have the bathroom door as shower door! The space feels bigger and lighter! Very cool!

As I am a breakfast aficionado and especially enjoy savory breakfast, I wish there would be maybe cheese, avocado or spreads and hummus, fresh cucumber or tomatoes, and maybe boiled eggs or fried eggs one day.

Good location, nice big window, parking was convenient, the facilities were new and clean. The breakfast was good enough (for 1 night).

I dislike the fact that the bathroom doesn't have proper walls (just a partly frosted glass screen and a shared door between the shower and the room, which was open from the top). The frosted glass had gaps at the top and bottom which affected privacy and also meant that when using the bathroom in the dark, the person sleeping is blasted by light. The bathroom should have a strong exhaust, opaque walls, and sound/smell insulation.

It's a nice, clean, modern hotel in a good location. The price is great, especially including breakfast and parking in the rate I got.

Major downside for me was the "Free Wifi" that I couldn't find a way to access. You are guided to sign up to free IHG One Rewards account (which you need to use your own mobile data to do) but when I did I still could find no access code. If there was a simple code then this should've been pointed out at check-in. I also found the mattress quite hard and the shower water would go through waves of warm/cool constantly.

Such a great buffet breakfast. Everything was easy, smooth, no issues. Loved the blockout blinds. Was close to train station. Very well priced- would recommend for people staying 1-3nights.

Sheets were very starchy and cleaning product smells were quite strong . I would have liked more pillow options. Nothing "natural"; i.e. pot plants or natural views. It was a bit of a basic high rise. Netflix or other streaming apps would have been a bonus

Such a nice little room! Everything we needed was there except for a microwave but there was one downstairs we could use. It was great having washing machines available for our laundry and the breakfast buffet was nice. The staff were lovely and the location of the hotel is great - very close to the beach and Civic Park. Bed was comfy and everything was clean. The housekeeping lady was lovely and gave me extra milk for my coffee :)

It would have been nice if the windows opened because my boyfriend was farting relentlessly and by day 3 I nearly died of asphyxiation. Apart from that everything was perfect!

This property greatly exceeded our expectations!! Value for money for sure! The staff were lovely, the room was incredibly clean, bathroom facilities felt modern, aircon worked amazingly and the beds were quite comfy. The breakfast was great also. The location was perfect to get around the CBD by foot or car, the parking facility was very convenient. Would definitely stay again when travelling back to Newcastle.

Can't fault it, great stay!

Firstly every staff member we encountered were incredible. Great customer service and didn't hesitate to help when required. Secondly pre booked parking online (I did have to phone hotel for the website) alternatively you can book in when you check in (highly recommend parking as alot of areas metered parking around that location). Literally drove to the boom gate and it read my number plate and let me in. No fuss at all. Read some bad reviews around the parking and I honestly didn't have a problem. Room was as pictured. Clean and had everything we needed for a 2 night stay. Buffet breakfast was also a nice touch had a great variety. Overly would recommend. Hotel is also in the heart of the city and close to alot of great sites.

Only complaint is the scrambled eggs were not great at breakfast. First day they were over salted (tasted like the ocean) and 2nd day they were very mushy and didn't taste great also.
