I mentioned on my booking request it was for an anniversary and arrived to find the room containing a love lettered balloon on the wall, anniversary banner, nice written message on the mirror and a card with some haribo and free drinks voucher and faux rose petals. It was unexpected but so nice. Location is great and breakfast is great and also you can get free coffees anytime from the machines. Any staff we spoke to were nice and the place was well kept. Would definitely recommend and go back.

There was no conditioner provided, only shampoo. The variety on their menu is quite poor, hence we never ate there apart from breakfast but that's about it.

Lots of good stuff such as great coffees & teas free of charge at any time, our choice of good-quality magazines (also free of charge), always someone available to help and the hotel's location is ideal. Very informal and easygoing. Also very clean. Welcoming.

Breakfast calls for one of you to always remain at your table - otherwise they clear away your hot drinks and your juice while you're away getting your bacon & eggs! This is not only wasteful and inconvenient but also means getting and eating breakfast becomes somewhat drawn-out.

Very reasonably priced, good central location. All staff were excellent. Check in easy, friendly and professional.

Clean but tired accommodation, carpet stains etc. But for the price, acceptable. Excited to have a view on the 15th floor but directly opposite glass walled offices so had to keep the curtains shut for privacy... no city view anyway.

The room was clean. The beds were comfy. Wonderful shower and toiletries, Dove products, were lovely.

After long journey we didn't want to go out to eat. Decided to order from the bar menu. Restricted choices. Very simple menu, only a few items on offer. Food was not good. Items missing, food cold, presented to our table in an awful manner by a female member of staff. Waited for the side orders to arrive, but they never materialised. Husband had to go up to ask for them, twice, to no avail. The already lukewarm main course subsequently went cold. Managed to get a refund for the terrible food. Maybe the company shouldn't bother offering food. I do not recommend purchasing anything to eat.

The location of this hotel is perfect for access to Birmingham town centre. It is only a short walk from New Street station and The Bull Ring shopping Centre. Breakfast was delicious though at times somewhat chaotic.

The one thing that we found detrimental to our stay was the situation with the lifts. The day we arrived there was only one lift out of three that was working. The situation did not get much better the next day, with only one other lift working which made two lifts overall. With such a tall hotel I would have thought it would have been a priority to have all lifts working. It also does not help when the cleaning staff are using the lifts and blocking them off so that only they can access them, you would have thought a hotel this size would have had a service lift for staff only.

Hotel was very clean as was our room and bathroom, bed very comfy and quiet so slept very well. Staff pleasant, hotel very close to bus station and other amenities, happy with our stay.

The cooked breakfast was not good, decent choice of cereals and juices. Would have preferred individual pots of yogurt instead of the big bowl left uncovered for hygiene reasons but it is a budget hotel so you can't expect 4 star food. It was nice that tea, coffee, hot chocolate is available at any time in the breakfast area. The air con was not great, cannot get it below 19°C, it didn't seem to work very well at that and with non opening windows the room got stuffy, weather was not particularly warm yet as only May but l would imagine it would be very unpleasant in hot weather.

Great experience start to finish. Reception lovely and explained location for breakfast the next day and bar etc The room was spotless and the amenities and layout excellent - loved the little stacking for iron board, iron and hairdryer - want one of these at home. Seriously the best sleep I have had in so long - including my own bed at home. There is advice on how busy the dining area is in the morning - plenty of food choices and all lovely and fresh. Location is excellent and if going before Christmas you are literally round the corner from the shops and Christmas markets and couple of minutes walk to the train station.

Nothing _ no need to change anything

Surprised about how comfortable, clean and fresh this hotel was inside! Welcomed well at reception. Room was well equipped, very comfortable bed and not too hot at night. Very quiet and felt very safe and only a short walk from the city centre and train station. The Christmas market was open and looked great. Breakfast was included in our price and was delicious! Great choice of cold and hot food. Would definitely stay again if I come to Birmingham!

There was nothing to improve. We didn’t explore the hotel much so can’t comment on all the facilities but the room was great, looked clean and refurbished - very happy!

Rooms were comfortable and clean, location fairly central and the breakfast choice was limited but good all the same

We selected two double rooms but on arrival we were allocated a double and a twin, not what we paid for through Booking.com. When asked why we were not allocated the rooms booked through Booking.com the response was that, rooms are allocated on arrival and that this was a frequent occurrence with customers booking accommodation on the Booking.com web site !! I find this hard to believe as over the years we have been allocated exactly what we booked through the web site. As a result we will think again about booking Holiday Inn Express accommodation again

The staff were super welcoming and helpful. When something in my room seemed not to be working, reception sent someone up pretty quickly to fix it. The room was quiet, overlooked a lovely tree-lined neighborhood, and was within walking distance of the Centenary Square buildings where my conference was taking place. An excellent choice.

Pity that their kitchen was not serving dinner, except for pizza (which was not always available). But Tom, the bar man, was super helpful when the pizza was available! Lastly, it would be great to use ground coffee beans instead of instant in the coffee machines, if possible.
