We were staying for 2 nights and attending a family funeral so not a holiday but the hotel was perfect for our stay. The location is amazing and the staff were so friendly and welcoming we would definitely stay here again. Breakfast was delicious, rooms had everything you could need and a bit more, iron and ironing board, toiletries in bathroom, good size tv etc.
There are lots of stairs so not good for less mobile people. There is lift access to one floor but you need to go outside to get to it which is fine in nicer weather but not so good in the rain. Market getting set up very early on Thursday morning was noisy if your room is at the front of the hotel but was lovely to have a wander around.

My room was very quiet, which was excellent. Breakfast was also excellent. Staff, as always, were delightful.
The duvet on the single bed was too narrow. Please provide slightly wider duvets. The curtains were a long way forward of the window aperture so a lot of light came round the edges. This would be a big problem in the summer when it gets light much earlier. I was disappointed that I was unable to have lunch at the hotel after checking in on Saturday because the kitchen closes between 2:30pm and 6pm. However, the staff suggested excellent alternative locations and I returned to the bar at the hotel after dining.

From the start we had a good impression of the hotel. The staff were helpful on arrival and remained friendly and efficient throughout. The Bear is clearly a real focus for the community and we liked its bustling, unfussy atmosphere. The room was fine and had everything we needed. It’s an old building and bits of it are a little knocked about but we found it quirky and interesting. Breakfast was pleasantly and efficiently served and was ‘substantial’. We also ate evening meals in the pleasant bar areas. Obviously, the car parking is a real boon and a selling point for the hotel, which is right in the middle of the bustling town.
We had a room with a dreaded kitchen extractor fan outside the window. This is just one of those things but I would have preferred it not to have been there!

Lovely staff throughout the hotel. Great food as we had dinner there that night. Lovely breakfast also. Very laid back and staff always happy to be of help. We were staying there as we were attending a wedding the next day. We had two rooms as my Mother in Law who is in her 80's and not very mobile also stayed. She struggled a bit with the stairs as there are no lifts but was given a room on one of the lower levels. The rooms were comfortable, clean and with character. Our room had been freshly redecorated and was very pleasant. I am looking forward to our next trip to Devizes and will definately be staying at the Bull Hotel.
There wasn't anything I didn't like about our stay.

We like absolutely everything about the Bear hotel! Breakfast is exceptionally good, you have to try their bacon sarnie! Location is right in the heart of the beautiful town of Devizes. All the staff are wonderful without exception. Free parking in their car park at back, plenty of spaces. Cost of stay is superb, I've stayed at many hotels in the UK over the years and the ones that have come anywhere close to the Bear Hotel's standard cost at least double the Bear's rate. I could go on & on...
It's so popular sometimes we can't book a room, particularly in summer haha!

The room was a good size with everything needed for a stay. The decor is looking a bit tired but it wouldn't put us off staying again. The room was clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom is a good size with a bath/shower. Breakfast in the morning was delicious with an excellent choice of hot a cold food. The staff were very helpful and made us feel welcome.
Slight mold in the bathroom but just needs a clean and air, probably caused by people not leaving the fan on after using he shower.

All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The food, drink and restaurant service were all excellent. The room services were very good and the bathroom was spotlessly clean. The location is perfect as a centre for visiting the town.
Our visit coincided with an exceptionally cold spell of weather and because it is an old building, which is difficult to heat, the temperature in the room overnight was less than ideal. However, good quality extra blankets were provided, so we were warm enough in bed.

Staff were amazing and so helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Great choice and freshly cooked. Room was huge, but desperately needs to be updated. Bed was really comfortable and spotlessly white bedding. Bathroom was super clean. Dinner was good, though not a lot of choice on the menu. Pinot Grigio wine was excellent and good value. Great onsite parking.
The whole hotel needs to be updated. The curtains in the bar were all torn and the nets in the bedroom had holes in them. Carpets needed to be cleaned. Appreciate that this is a very old beautiful hotel but a little TLC would not go amiss. Menu was very limited. Fish pie could have had more prawns in it as only had 1 and could have been a little bigger especially for the price.

A lovely traditional hotel in a prime location. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant was excellent with a nice nearby bar / lounge area. Lovely to be able to park in the hotel car park.
The only part that we were not too impressed with was the breakfast. There were several people in the room but there was only one member of staff serving and she was busy. The fruit juices had virtually run out and there was cereal but no fruit and only the odd yoghurt. The cooked food was very nice. Another person doing the topping up would have made a lot of difference.

We love the historic and welcoming feel here and our second stay did not disappoint. The location is excellent also with the use of a private car park. Breakfast was excellent with good choice served with a smiling face.
Not so much we did not like, but some of the fixtures and fittings are feeling a little tired, curtains and headboards in our room for instance could do with replacing, however this would not stop us visiting again. I am sure like many establishments the fall out of the last few years will have put pressure on the business.
