Ticked all the boxes for an overnight stay in the area. The landlady was welcoming and accomodating. The accomodation was spotless, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was good quality and plenty of it. The reason we booked the Peat Spade was because it was the only place in the locality that we could find that could provide accomodation, and a meal at 8pm on a Sunday evening. We would have booked somewhere much closer to where we needed to be if it had it not been for the fact that they all finished serving at 6 or 7pm When we checked in at 5pm we were infomed that the kitchen was shutting at 7 due to unavoidable staffing problems, which caused us some consternation! This could have been a negative but the landlady couldn't have been more helpful in ensuring we got our 8pm meal. We ordered in advance off the full menu, and the meals when we arrived for them were as good as what we would have received earlier in the evening. We had hoped to end the day with a nice meal and a glass of wine in a comfortable environment, and that is exactly what we got.

The location of the hotel is wonderful - in a picture-postcard village, close to Stockbridge. Our room (Churchill), was lovely. It was at the front of the hotel, but the road was very quiet, particularly at night. It had lots of facilities, including a Nespresso machine, and fresh milk in a fridge alongside a kettle and wide range of teas. There were lovely toiletries to use. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. Breakfast in the morning was a real treat - the choice of cereals, fruit, juice and pastries was great and there was a lovely selection of hot food too. We would definitely return.
It was a bank holiday Monday when we stayed and the only food on offer in the evening was a hog roast. We had just come from a hog roast with friends in the afternoon, so didn't feel like a second one! They did telephone in advance to let us know this, but it was still a little disappointing, because we didn't feel like driving elsewhere to eat.

we have visited the Peat Spade 5 times now for short breaks and we love it. The staff are always unfailingly friendly and helpful and it is comfortable and clean. The breakfast is lovely - I have the omelette and it is always delicious and perfectly cooked. It is good that we can return late at night after the pub shuts as we visit family and often stay late chatting. Highly recommend.
Nothing. We will definitely go back. The only reason it wasn't a ten was that it was slightly noisy downstairs early morning this time. But that has never happened before and didn't affect our enjoyment of our stay.

Room had a comfortable large bed with soft bed linen. There was an Espresso machine and real milk! The bathroom was spacious with a big shower. The restaurant was busy and the food was good. I had an excellent parsnip soup and the smoked haddock with a buttermilk sauce was excellent - reasonable prices. Very friendly staff
Quite expensive at £149 a night. The road is right outside the window and tractors go past from very early morning. The windows are old and don't really close so it was quite chilly in the room The shower screen is not wide enough so the bathroom was flooded. The way up to the bedrooms is really scruffy and the bedroom door had had the handle replaced by one that was a completely different shape but it hasn't been redecorated - not a great first impression.

Excellent food although our chateaubriand was a little overcooked, but the manager apologised and reduced the bill which was good. Clean and very comfy room. All the staff were friendly and efficient
My room wasn’t refreshed for my second stay. It was stated in the welcome letter that if you wanted it refreshed you should leave a note out, but I didn’t read it and I’m sure a lot of guests are the same. I think it would be better if the default was to refresh the room unless you left the note out.

This was the best place we stayed in. The dinner and breakfast were amazing. The food was high quality and tasted delicious! We loved eating in their dinning room, it had so much charm. Our rooms were delightful! The room above the pub where me and my husband slept was the best of the four rooms we had. My children had three rooms out the back in a separate building and I would have preferred to have them in the same building above the pub. That being said they were very conformable and had a great time.

The rooms were very warm and comfortable. There was an extensive breakfast menu to choose from. All food was delicious, both breakfast and evening meal.
We were allocated the Annexe rooms which involved a few steep steps. We are all in our late 70's and luckily still fairly mobile so for us not so much a problem. For some guests this could be so I would suggest checking with staff when booking a room.

Very warm welcome by the bar staff when I arrived, I was shown to the the room which was clean and had open beams in the ceiling which was nice. The shower was excellent plenty of hot water and the water pressure was good. Had an evening meal which was very nice indeed, The starter was was very filling. Will defiantly stay again if there are rooms. Disappointed I had to leave before breakfast was on as judging by the dinner menu Im sure it would have be delightful.
Car park was busy so had to park on the road until it quietened down.

This is a stunning property in a beautiful location on the Western bank of the River Test surrounded by trout streams and rivers that cross and interlink through the village. The rooms are finely furnished and have real character. Facilities were ample and comfortable. The bar and restaurant are welcoming and very popular at lunchtimes and in the evenings with an impressive menu. The cooked breakfast was very good. The staff that I dealt with were friendly and helpful.
These are only small niggles but for over £200 that I paid, it’s worth mentioning. The room was generally clean but there was a fair bit of dust on side tables and mantelpiece which was surprising . The tea / coffee making facilities in the room were fine but the sachets of sugar were crystallised and solid, so I’m guessing they hadn’t been checked for some time.

We arrived quite late in the afternoon, and was quickly checked in. We were able to join the dinner service last minute as we had forgotten to book a table. The food was delicious! Our room was cute and cosy whilst maintaining comfort.
