This house has to be the most beautiful place I have ever stayed in. A timber geisha house in a small alley lined with similar houses, painted a dusky red. Inside the impeccable tatami rooms flowed into each other, over two floors, all opening on the internal miniature garden. The house is perfectly equipped with a well-appointed kitchen, plenty of tableware and very comfortable beds: there was a western style queen bed and Japanese futon beds, all of which were superbly comfortable. Everyone got a wonderful night’s sleep. The house has so many beautiful details, it has clearly been restored with great taste and expertise and a loving eye. An absolute must if you come to Kanazawa. Also the location is perfect to explore the old town. I was very sad we could only stay one day.
Everything was impeccable.

This Machiya was more beautiful than the photos. The best part about staying here was that you could feel the vibe of its past, and imagine yourself living in the Edo period. The house is quite large with plenty of room to spread out. Every room had views of the beautiful inner garden, which provided me with much pleasure. All of the sliding doors fully open so you can experience the inside/outside nature of Japanese living. The host was available and helpful, the neighborhood quaint and perfectly located. If you want an authentic, and comfortable abode this is the place—truly magical!
Because this neighborhood is so historic there are lots of tourists walking among the tiny streets. We went at the end of May, so the tourist influx wasn’t too bad. But once inside, you forget the tourists and enjoy the inner calmness.

The house is beautiful and much bigger and better equipped than i anticipated. The location is perfect for exploring all the main parts of Kanazawa. I was initially a little on the fence about staying here but so glad I did, it made our time in Kanazawa that much more special. I loved being able to sit out on the terrace over the garden.
Worth noting that given the nature of the property, the walls are thin and you can hear outside noise easily. Also it doesn’t have quite the level of luxury and comfort you may expect in a hotel.

The machiya was in a great location. Everything was in great order, all labeled in Japanese and English, and very well organized. The rooms were beautiful. The host welcomed us when we arrived and gave a very good tour of the house. She also continued to be very helpful when asked for restaurant recommendations during the course of our stay. The house next this one has geisha practicing their instruments so that was cool to hear.
The stairs up to the sleeping area can be tricky so be careful. 2 of our group are very tall, though.

It is a great experience to be able to stay in a traditional house. This one has been so carefully curated and made comfortable for travellers. Everything that you need is clearly labelled with instructions. The location is great in a traditional Chaya and across the bridge is the more touristy, HigashiChaya.it is a residential area and so people can be quite noisy outside. The property is managed and they were kind enough to forward a charger we left behind. They also provided a thorough introduction to the house on our arrival
It can be noisy outside with people chatting as they walk past. The bathroom is off the kitchen - it works fine…

We have this lovely traditional Japanese entire house by ourselves. The house is super clean. Masami (the host) was very friendly and helpful. The house is in very good convenient location; 5-7 walks to Higashi Chaya district, 15-20 walks to Omicho market. The house provides both queens-bed bedroom and traditional futon beds. We slept all nights on futon beds and woke up without back-pain at all.

. the house is so beautiful that people are taking pictures of it in the street but they cant see into the property so it didnt really bother us.

It's a glimpse into time. It's wonderful to experience a little of the Edo period. And the host went above and beyond. We forgot a pair of shoes and she sent it to our home right away.
Nothing really. Even during winter time, the house stayed warm and held the heat very well! The only thing that will always bug me a little are the hard Japanese beds. But that's just my preference
