Friendly staff and lovely grounds. Comfy bed and good location. Excellent breakfast
Didn’t feel like a 4 star hotel - thought this was a bit misleading when booking

Beautiful location and lovely building. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Free drinks if you don’t have maid service. Great breakfasts and lovely dinners. Plenty of free parking. A room with a view is worth it, we had a view of “The Old Man” and waterfall or there is a lake view. Very close to the Bluebird cafe and the lake with all sorts of water activity including rowing boats, kayaks and motor boats e.t.c. you can take out yourself or boats you can sit on and listen to a guided tour. If you’re interested in Donald Campbell, the lake tours will tell you all about him and “Bluebird” is nearby in Coniston in the Ruskin museum and his resting place is behind “The Crown Inn” Coniston . There are other pub restaurants nearby, choose wisely. If you want a bit more bustle then make a visit to Ambleside and Windermere. There are obviously lots of walks.
We had an extra large bed in a double /twin room. So, this is the twin beds pushed together which leaves a ridge down the middle. While you’re both sleeping on your sides of the bed it’s no problem, but if you plan on doing anything else you need to do a lot of manoeuvres to avoid the ridge 😏, but don’t worry, the rest of the room is big enough for all activities 😉😏

Absolutely loved this place: wonderful beautiful location, overlooking Coniston lake, comfortable rooms/beds, staff are magnificent. Good selection of food so not a worry on rainy day if you can’t get out far. Good bar. Offers selectional cleaning which is environmentally friendly. Dog friendly.
Need to be aware of small bathroom/shower, low pressure shower. WiFi is very weak or overloaded, so not a location to work from (if needed). Also, not many nice food venues around in Coniston itself and no fridge to store own food, so you are a bit trapped with Inn’s bar and restaurant and in a week’s time you will go through full menu 😅

The hotel was lovely and the staff were friendly. It was warm and welcoming. Izzy was lovely and friendly. She was the only staff member whose name i got. As we were only staying two nights, we were asked if we didn't want our room cleaned the next day? Which was fine with us. We got a free drink, which I thought was a good gesture. Breakfast was really nice and there was plenty to have. The grounds of the hotel were really nice and the views were amazing.
Can't fault the hotel, really the tiniest issue was the TV never moved to be able to watch in bed. But again, a minor issue as it was only to watch before going to sleep.

Fantastic venue, beautiful idillic location, great staff, lovely food - amazing breakfast every morning. Good size rooms with lovely views. Dog friendly. Thanks to Ollie, Mike and all staff for a memorable stay. Your hard work hasn't gone un-noticed!!
The rooms are comfortable however ours was a little on the warm side each evening. There was a stand alone air conditioning unit in the room, (some have fans) which we used every night on the fan setting as the air con setting was very noisy, which we reported. On our last night we also had a fire alarm going off at 2am resulting in a full evacuation for 20mins then again at 4am, both false alarms! Other than this we had an amazing stay and will return.

We loved this spot, our favourite of our trip so far. The location is stunning, building is lovely and charming, staff were helpful, breakfast was great, rooms were clean, very comfortable, and nicely decorated and it’s right on one of the lakes. We also felt it was great value. We were accidentally high maintenance guests (international debit card didn’t work at first, I accidentally knocked my glass of wine over at dinner, had some wi fi problems in our friends room) but the woman who I’m guessing was the manager was very helpful and nothing seemed like too much trouble.
As I’ve found in a lot of hotels with central heating, it did get very hot in the room overnight. We ate dinner at the restaurant and the staff member behind the bar seemed a bit overwhelmed and I’m not sure if the restaurant just doesn’t offer it or he didn’t know, but there weren’t many gluten free options mentioned for a coeliac guest.

The Coniston Inn is in a perfect location. It is close to the lake and activities there, as well as within walking distance to the village. As a solo traveller, my room was a 'cosy double' with it's own bathroom overlooking The Old Man of Coniston. The room had plenty of room for my needs and was comfortable. As they provide food and refreshments all day, in addition to breakfast which was included in my stay, I was also able to eat main meals at times to suit myself. There are also tables and pods within the grounds so in the evening I took a drink outside to relax and take in the scenery.
I was lucky to spend a few days in Coniston whilst the weather was really hot. The room I was staying in was on the second floor on the side of the building that had the sun on it all day. (You could feel the heat rise as you went into the second floor!) As a result the room was like an oven by the evening. There is also a large well lit hotel sign directly under the only window so having this open overnight drew lots of tiny flies into the room, many of which were found dead/dying all over the window/sill in the morning. Having asked, I was provided with a fan which helped move air around the room (with the window shut) but as it was still warm air, I slept on the bed rather than in it! Maybe air conditioning would help in this room?

The room met expectations (see what we didn't like) and was comfortable. We liked the location and the ambience of the bar and dining area. Breakfast was excellent and we had an evening meal twice (not quite as good as the breakfast but still good).
The staff could not get the heating to work on the evening that we arrived. We were told that most people complained that the rooms were too hot when the heating was on, but that night it was not particularly warm and we would have liked to have removed the slight chill. The heating was not fixed for our second night, but- to be honest- we did not need it (it was a warmer evening). The instantaneous heating shower is a little awkward because none of us were quite sure how to set the controls to get the best temperature- but we managed.

Staff superb, courteous and helpful especially on hotel facilities nad directions to other location. Food and drink very good, plenty of choice and reasonably priced. Great location. Beautiful surroundings. Well kept outside and plenty of choice for taking it all in. Very peaceful even when busy, which it frequently was.
We thought the room was a little expensive given the facilities there. Lovely views, very warm, no shaver socket (!). Even though the breakfast was great (though we would have liked some fresh fruit, eg melon/mango, as well as tinned prunes), we thought £200+ per night for B&B was a bit pricey; we know it was high season in a very popular area, but even so.

Location is superb, close to loads of different walks. The food was delicious. The staff were lovely. They were clearly very short staffed but the staff who were there were always friendly, and helpful despite being rushed off their feet. The lack of staff was due to poor management.
The smell from the bathrooms, coming up through the shower and wash basin plug holes. We had to leave the light and extraction unit on all night, and cover up the shower plug hole with a towel and put the plug in the sink.. The smell also spoilt the pleasure of the gardens where the effluent treatment unit was situated, which is in the middle of the gardens. .
