Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. They allowed us to use the restaurant area to work during the day and were very attentive. Large, comfy, clean room. Food in the pub / restaurant was good value and very tasty, great selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Overall a little dated, could do with some upgrading in places. There’s an A road running directly in front of the pub which our room looked out onto and was therefore quite loud. They do have secondary glazing to counter this but having this closed made the room hot & stuffy overnight. Worth requesting a room at the back of the property.

As soon as I walked into the bedroom (number 1) I wished I was staying for more than one night. Spacious, attractive room, with an interesting shape, and a large bathroom. Handy plug sockets right by bed. Plenty of hot water for bath. Had dinner in the bar. I'd asked when I booked to have a table by a wall, not in the centre of the room, and I was given a perfect location. Fascinating natural history print on the walls. Had three courses at dinner and they were all great. I chose a starter that I would never normally have gone for, but calories were shown, and it had the lowest calories. I am SO pleased I had it - smoked trout + + Had small fish and chips, plus winter fruit and panna cotta. Despite being right by a road, it was very quiet overnight. Breakfast - perfect poached eggs. Plenty of coffee refills. All the members of staff I spoke to were very helpful and cheerful. This stay was very relaxing, and just what I wanted.

We were positively surprised with the size and comfort of our room. Bed was excellent. Everything with the accomodation side of our stay was nice. This is definitely a good option for anyone who needs to stay near Manchester but save with the price of accomodation. Breakfast was great.
On the evening of our stay we booked a table in the pub to have a family dinner with a party of five. Unfortunately something happened and even though we were far from the last people to arrive we were pretty much the last ones to get our meals on the table. They apologized and offered us a free round of drinks, which was very nice, but after a long day a smooth timing with service would have been greatly appreciated.

The staff at this hotel are excellent - welcoming, helpful and professional. The room itself was spacious, comfortable, very clean and nicely decorated. Quality toiletries provided with a nice hot shower. The evening meal (Sunday roast) was tasty, well cooked and plentiful. Ample onsite parking. We would definitely stay here again.
The bed creaked a lot and we could hear every conversation from the room next door. If you are a light sleeper or sensitive to noise the room we stayed in may not be suitable. Other that that we enjoyed our stay in this hotel.

Lovely pub with rooms in a quiet area that offers good value for money, thanks to the genius discount. We arrived super late unfortunately, which was unplanned but the staff were accommodating and helpful to leave us the key with a self check in option, giving us clear explanations on how to access it.
The bathroom decor style is rather outdated and could be refreshed for a more modern look and feel. The shower cubicle ie far too small and there is room in the bathroom to make this bigger. The water pressure is also poor - so keep this in mind, though you get a great hot shower!

The decor was lovely. Our room was very nice, clean and a great size. We rang ahead to let the staff know we'd be arriving early to drop our luggage off before going to a wedding - there were quite a few of us booked in there. When we arrived they had actually got all of our rooms ready early for us so we could freshen up, unpack and it meant when we got in late that evening we could go straight to bed. We really appreciated that! Breakfast the next morning was lovely too. Overall, a great place to stay for the evening!
Nothing.

Absolutely lovely spot! We booked this quote last minute after getting tickets to a gig in Manchester and struggled to find a decently priced family room that would accept dogs. This place was perfect! The dinner in the pub was gorgeous, friendly staff and quick service. The room was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. The breakfast was incredible, so much choice. And the location was ideal for heading out on long walks. Absolutely highly recommend. Thanks again, we'll be back!
Only thing I could think of was that it was incredibly warm even on a cold rainy March day - I think all the radiators were on so we ended up opening the window which just felt like a waste of energy.

We arrived on a really hot day and it was lovely to see that they had a beer garden where we were able to have a nice cool drink in the sun. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. We went for a walk before dinner and there was a map with a route for you to follow over open countryside. We ate in the restaurant/ bar. The food was really tasty. Breakfast was good in the morning , we had a cooked breakfast which was large.
The rooms were all upstairs with no lift so may need to take this into account when booking. It didn't bother us as we are both able bodied.

The Red Lion definitely warrants a mention. The staff were exceptional and the service from check to check out was friendly and professional. We were made to feel really welcome. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and a good outdoor decking area. The food was excellent and truly wholesome and we were excited to see a good choice of vegetarian options on the menu Our rooms were lovely clean and spacious We would recommend staying here and will definitely return if we are visiting the area again Thank you to all who looked after us so well
Everything about our stay was positive

The breakfasts were good, plentiful and tasty - they even had vegan breakfast which was great. The location was good, nice big carpark and two electric charging points (although someone was constantly parking and not charging in one). The bar area was nice and the staff were super friendly. The towels and bed linen were excellent and super clean, the beds were comfy and I was able to open the window which was great as it was warm. The shower was good, clean and powerful and always hot water. The toiletries and tea/coffee were good quality and replenished regularly.
The walls seemed to be quite thin and so I could hear TV and people talking through them quite loudly. The food was good but not amazing, I think there could be some improvement there, but the portions were good and the service was efficient and friendly. The atmosphere was good and we got chatting to the staff and the other customers which was nice.
