The setting of the guest house as you walk into stone rock artisan pizzeria area you have unique decor and rustic look, like a country cottage with wooden beams and exposed stone work. Then the corridors to the rooms was decorated and home feeling with a peaceful vibe. Then entering the room you are presented with a cosy feeling layout and an en suite with a modern shower and light up mirror and as a bonus heated towel rail! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable as well as inviting and approachable, and was great with mental health needs. The pizzas offered on the menu that is cooked in house in an artisan clay oven was phenomenal and well worth the price and experience. The homely feeling of everything makes you feel welcome and like it's a home away from home. It was very peaceful too. Well worth the money and time staying there.

The location of the guest house is in the town but just on the outer part. Located next to a carpark where there is lots of parking and it is cheap. The rooms are above a pizza restaurant which is rustic but clean and friendly and the pizza I had was delicious, I recommend the dirty Hawaiian, lovely. The room was really clean and the bathroom. Very quiet at night too. There is also a nice garden to sit in at the back where there is also a retreat at the bottom of the garden, this is not part of the guest house but was a pleasant sight as it looked very tranquil. I will be staying there again next month. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. There is the church and the castle close by too, loved this place and will definitely stay again and again. Best value for money I have had in a long time.

The only one thing I can criticise is the Stowford press cider that was on tap tasted a bit weird, maybe the pipes needed cleaning but that was the only thing.

Lovely, cozy stay at The First Hurdle. We were in town for a concert and it was the perfect little place to stay. The staff were attentive as soon as we arrived, such nice people and gave us all the information needed and didn't have any problems. We had the attic room which was clean and spacious, cute décor, had a comfy bed, sofa, TV & DVD player, even a mini fridge. The bathroom was clean and tidy, had an LED mirror, shampoo and conditioner and other necessities. Thank you for everything and will definitely come back if we're ever down this way again ✨

Very friendly staff, great check-in, good size rooms, clean and freshly painted. Great location in centre of town. Breakfast was Continental but was ample for our needs. We intended to have a cooked breakfast at one of the cafes locally or the Wetherspoons round the corner but the First Hurdle breakfast was sufficient. It shares the premises with a Pizza Restaurant, sign says its the best in Wales! Didn't try the pizza but certainly looked very good. Would stay there again and recommended.

Nothing, we all really enjoyed our stay.

The location is a short walk from the railway station. It is very central and very easy to travel by public transport to the surrounding towns and villages. The staff were very helpful and friendly and Olivia went over and above with a couple of issues that could not be helped at the time. I had a room at the front but the road is quiet at night and my sleep was never disturbed. I stayed in a double room and a twin room and both were comfortable and roomy. There are lots of good options in the town and the attached pizzeria has great food too. For the price, convenience and the wonderful staff this guest house is excellent value. I am travelling the UK and ended up staying longer than planned I liked it so much.

I can’t think of anything really but if I was being picky, it is an old building so as is typical the floors creak in the upper rooms and there’s nothing much that can rectify that. The carpets on the stairs, unlike the rooms, are rather grubby and worn and could do with replacement or steam clean.

Perfect weekend stay to a friends wedding weekend. Greeting was friendly and informative. The room was perfect, spacious, and very clean. The room was recently renovated and felt fresh and modern. Breakfast was the perfect start to the day with plenty to choose from. The location was amazing. Excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend and would stay again Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Nothing to not like, everything was perfect for what we wanted and needed.

Loved how clean the room was and the staff was fantastic welcoming and friendly was able to have dinner in the restaurant attached nothing wasted much trouble. It stated they were the best pizzas in Wales and they were absolutely 💯 % the best pizzasi ever had.

only thing was we were ground floor and had all the loud drunks walking past us shouting and being loudbut luckily soon died down and was able to sleep but it's expected being town location.

Location Cleanliness Friendly breakfast staff Lovely, basic continental breakfast. Some people may want cold meats and cheese to be included, but we were very happy with the choices available of fresh fruit, natural yoghurt, choice of cereals and bread, jam, and marmalade.

All good, nothing to dislike. Had a better room than last stay. The ensuite had a good blind for privacy, unlike like our last stay. Although room facing the road side, it was very quiet.

At its price point, First Hurdle has all you would want. The location is great - right in the heart of town, but my room was out the back and perfectly quiet. As others have noted, a refurb is probably overdue, but the room was clean and tidy. The pizzas served downstairs are amazing. And the staff were superb; one went well beyond the call of duty to help me find a missing mobile phone, and they served me breakfast late because I could not get down early. So A+++ for pizzas and staff.

The hotel is central and close to amenities with a fabulous location (I had booked 6 rooms altogether). The staff were very helpful, and rooms were clean and tidy with coffee/tea options in your room, they were also very accommodating when I asked for an early check-in because our bus was picking us up earlier then 4pm

Breakfast was limited to full English, Also, a vegetarian option there was plenty of bread/toast, jams/marmalade & yoghurt, and fruit & nut options .. would like to see other options such as omlettes breakfast rolls but this is just a suggestion rather than a didn't like
