beautiful hotel in a wonderful location. the gardens are lovely even though it was September and past their best. Staff were charming helpful and professional. Our room was top class with everything anyone could want.
For us the only disappointment was the food which, though nicely presented was lacking in flavour. The pea soup was so bland that it could have been anything. It was quite expensive especially the wine. In spite of this we were prepared to give it another try the next evening until we realised that it was the same menu which apparently is seasonal.

OMG a real life castle that Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn stayed in!!! And it felt like it was just how it would have been when they were there! We loved everything about this hotel - from the winding stone staircase to our room, to the panelled walls, the four-poster bed, leadlight glass in the windows, the incredibly beautiful gardens and even the molehills in the lawn. It is just an opportunity not to be missed and we were so disappointed we couldn't stay longer!

Absolutely stunning. Without doubt we felt like royalty staying at this incredible castle. We received a free upgrade to the King James V suite which was quite breathtaking and the most incredible bathroom we've ever used. Wonderful comfy four post king size bed with so many little touches to make our stay feel special. The grounds and castle were spectacular and luxurious. Beautiful dinner in the restaurant and we took a tour and learned of Thornbury's history with Tony which brought it all together.
Cocktails, drinks and meals were a little more expensive that expected so travel with an extra budget for this.

This was a bucket list stay for me (a milestone birthday) and I loved the castle experience. Our room (Mary Tudor Suite?) was amazing; spacious, comfortable, and gorgeous. The decor and furnishings in the bedroom felt historically appropriate but fully functional. The bathroom was one of the best I have experienced. The breakfasts were excellent. In addition we had two dinners which were also excellent (but possibly slightly overpriced). If I were to stay again I would have only one special dinner at the castle and eat elsewhere other nights. The neighborhood was peaceful and we enjoyed walking through the garden one evening.

Thornbury Castle was our splurge night on our UK vacation, and it was worth every penny! If we had to do it over, we wouldn’t change a thing. Our room exceeded expectations—it felt like stepping back in time, but with all the modern comforts. The bed was pure luxury, the most comfortable of our entire trip. Each room has its own charm, and ours had a hidden door in the wall to access the bathroom A truly memorable stay.
It was a bit pricey, but worth it for the experience. It's not every day you can stay in a real castle.

Only the gardener greeted us well everyday during our stay! Was expecting the same from other staff members also. Unfortunate !

Fantastic experience, gorgeous Lady Jane Grey’s suite looked like a dream, everything was spotless, and Café du Monde hot chocolate was a nice touch! The whole experience was fantastic! Dinner was absolutely delicious, with exquisite top-notch cuisine. We marvelled at sea bass with cauliflower and Gewurztraminer, as well as the raspberry white chocolate with yuzu, everything was absolutely delicious. The shoulder massage was one of the best my son has ever had! The castle and the grounds are outstanding and the attention to detail is extraordinaire. Excellent customer service!

What an enchanting place suffused with so much history! You could feel the ghosts of Henry the VIII and his wives and mistresses wandering the gardens and the halls. We were luck with the weather - sunshiny and summerlike - and spent the late afternoon and early evening sitting out in one of the gardens listening to the blackbird songs. The dinner in the library was excellent - everything prepared with infinite care and attention. And the service was attentive but not intrusive. The gardens, a recent labor of love, are just now coming into full realization. A perfect stay.

Exceptional breakfast. Excellent food in restaurant. Lovely bar and library to relax in. We stayed in George V bed Chambers and it was absolutely stunning. The bed was so very comfortable. We loved every minute of our 2 night stay.
This hotel is not suitable for small children as it is an adult environment throughout and small children struggle to behave in a way that doesn't impact on the enjoyment of others because there is nothing for them to do here. Every facility is designed for adult appreciation as you would expect from a Relais and Chateau Castle. This venue is all about its historical past and fine dining experiences.

You are staying in a true Castle and the experience meets the expectations. A true once in a lifetime experience. The dinner was perfect in every way. The Henry the 8th suite was magnificent from corner to corner and the Elizabeth the 1st suite was brilliant with the largest bed I've ever slept in. The bath in the Elizabeth room overlooking the English countryside was unforgettable. The grounds and gardens were so much fun to explore and experience. Afternoon tea was delicious as well as elegant.
I wish there was more historical information about the art, and architecture available. There is a tour but only at certain hours and it must be prebooked. It was not available on the day we stayed. I simply wish I could have learned more about the English standards, the art and the furniture I was seeing around the castle, maybe a brochure or an app. The information on the TV and the pamphlet they hand out explain the history but not much about the items I was looking at.
