I booked to stay at the Summer Lodge Country House Hotel as a surprise for my wife in celebration of our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. She definitely was not disappointed and, for a small amount extra per night, the hotel upgraded us to the Master Suite as it was available during our stay. The Master Suite was absolutely lovely and I would thoroughly recommend it if you have deep enough pockets. We would not hesitate in staying at the hotel again (more likely for a special occasion again as it is not a cheap option for a weekend away). Huge thanks to all the staff who made our stay so very special with all the little touches along the way!

Nice traditional country house hotel, staff were very accommodating, room nice and clean Nice touches left a drink in our room arrived and gave us some water and cookies when we left Used the pool and gym which was good . Breakfast was good, served to your table which was a nice touch Nice gardens We wanted a quiet good quality country house hotel and this hotel ticked all the boxes

Gym a bit small Had a discretionary 5% for staff and as staff were so good we paid, however when you take the overall room rate for bed a breakfast maybe a little overvalued even if you take into account the nice touches

Lunch and evening meal were truly outstanding. Good selection of wines and the idea of ordering your meal in the lounge before being called to your table once it is ready was a nice touch. Beautifully prepared food with locally sourced ingredients. Staff were probably the best I have encountered in all my travels. So attentive, thoughtful and did everything possible to make our stay a true delight. We felt as if we were treated like royalty. Grounds are very well maintained and Spa facilities were very good

Given the standard of other meals, breakfast was a little disappointing. Whilst there was a selection of fruits and cereals to choose from there was no wider continental selection. Meats and cheeses could be ordered from the kitchen but it would have been nice to see a platter with a selection of cold cuts and another with a good selection of cheeses. Equally the eggs benedict was dry as the sauce had been placed under the grill; I've never seen that before and don't feel a fresh hollondaise sauce needs that treatment.

The staff were super friendly and the breakfast was amazing! We ate at the pub in the village in the evening, which via a door out of the bar was a 2 min walk and food exceptional as well. The Acorn Inn is affiliated to the Lodge so again staff were fantastic. Extra touches like free muffins, fruit and drinks at the pool, service was great at Summer Lodge and pool area very nice too.

There was a holding charge for the room. Some paid it on debit, and some people were held on credit cards. Small confusion re refunds on departure but got sorted!

A traditional English country hotel with garden of glorious flowers, pond and mature trees. Reception was efficient at check in and check out. Bar service was particularly good, with nice cocktails. Lots of comfy sofas downstairs to relax with a book, and seating outside to enjoy the summer. You are in the heart of the country with a quiet Dorset village with post office and pub just a few steps outside the side entrance. Highlight was a lovely walk through fields and around the grounds of Melbury House and Estate.

We enjoyed using the swimming pool which was a reasonable size and well heated within an attractive glass conservatory. The limited exercise equipment within a small space overlooking the pool was the right equipment and adequate. But the area around the pool, and around the decorative water feature was in need of someone to scrupulously oversee cleanliness.

Great dining experience- the menu was most original and the wine list extensive. Reasonably priced for what you receive. The hotel public spaces are comfortable and spacious. The garden is delightful. We were upgraded to Ivy Cottage, a lovely private cottage with its own garden and hot tub. Most welcome and a superb surprise. Thank you. Staff were very attentive. It was a family celebration and the staff looked after us very well. Thank you.

Lovely grounds and hotel set in the beautiful village of Evershot. Room was superb with a lovely conservatory and courtyard. Perfect for our stay with our little dog. Dinner from the terrace menu in the whiskey bar (so we could eat with our dog with us) was delicious and good value. Staff friendly and helpful from start to finish (even gave us a package of some of the hotel's unbelievably delicious shortbread for the journey as we asked if there was any more).

We asked every day for someone to get subtitles on our room tv but they tried but unable over 3 days We were looking forward to relaxing in our room and watching tv my wife and I need subtitles It would also prevent having the tv loud and possibly disturbing other guest which I don’t think happened. If it was such a problem then with the sort of money we paid they could of put a temporary free standing new one in the room Might seem a small thing but to us it was important,that’s why doom of my scores were a bit low Cheers Rick mills A

Summer Lodge Hotel is wonderfully and conveniently situated. Glorious countryside, charming characterful towns and villages, and within easy driving distance of some of the UK's most iconic coastal scenery. The Hotel gardens are very attractive and all members of staff friendly and welcoming. Overall, meals in both the Hotel and its nearby 'sister' establishment The Acorn Inn, were something to look forward to with attractively presented dishes. Likewise breakfasts, which provided guests with a great selection of quality cereals, fresh and dried fruits, etc, in addition to some tasty a la carte items. Table service was excellent at all times.

Notwithstanding our previous comments, it comes down to price, and whether a tariff of over £600 per night for a moderate size room with breakfast and dinner, excluding drinks, represents good value. Perhaps the introduction of some multi-night dinner, bed & breakfast deals could be considered, at least outside the high season months of June, July, August?
