The hotel is clean and has decent facilities. There is a lift, but even so, the hotel is a little like a warren. The downside is our conference room was on the first floor where the ladies' toilet was. The toilets for the gents on the ground. When we moved to the bar after dinner, the problem had reversed. Ground floor bar and the gents along the corridor, the ladies had to go upstairs.

The checkout process was a little chaotic. One of our members was trying to settle our dinner bill, and two ladies were looking to pay a deposit for a future event. One staff member was struggling, and the other had to help out. This meant I'd a long wait to just return my key, as I'd no charges on my room.

Really liked how clean it felt and the quality of the bathroom. Stayed in room 201. Have a look at the shower screen as there is no rubber to stop the water from leaking onto the floor and that will eventually cause damage to the beautiful bathroom you’ve obviously taken a lot of care over.

I have no complaint. It exceeded my expectation and there was a really nice Christmas buzz in the hotel with coach parties of holiday makers etc. it was really nice. Thank you!

Great location - really central and easy to get to and from. The staff are really helpful.and friendly and we had contacted in advance and they sorted out our query for us arriving. Breakfast is buffet style and lots of healthy options, vegetarian too and many for the usual.suspects! Facilities are good and the receptipn is manned 24/7 which is great. Room was spacious enough for our needs, bed was super comfy. Extra pillows in the room if needed too. Shower is good - just remember the 'on' switch is outside! All in all, an excellent stay - and we've already booked again for next year.

Can't say there was anything - my original pillow was flat and hard but the alternates were fine.

Staff are really friendly. Good, basic hotel that is value for money and has decent food. Also they make the toast for you at breakfast. You don’t have to stand for ages over a slow moving machine that burns it.

The decor is the same as it has been on every occasion in the past 25 years I have been there. While strangely comforting, it could do with some modernisation. Having said that the en suite in my room had clearly been done fairly recently.

This is hotel is more an experience than a hotel. From the exterior withe the full size piper statues in the walls to the hotel's location in the middle of everything good, to the interior.. The inside is sorta quaint and charming then it's astonishimg when you reach the 1st floor. A dining room that wd be at home on a 1920s ocean liner that is just breathtaking. Yes the rooms could be jooshed up, but this is not a bog standard chain. It's a true one off with excellent biscuits, a great shower and bed and lovely staff. If you want to stay somewhere unique and rare then go.

It's not perfect, it's interesting

The staff were all brilliant, everyone we met were polite, professional and friendly. The bar food left us wanting more but physically incapable of stuffing any more in.... we tried lol. Can't comment on the restaurant as didn't go there....definitely next time. Would recommend for shopping as everything is close by. Parking on the corner.

Could do with some maintenance, nothing major just bits n bobs needing some tlc but I'm sure if they were pointed out the staff would be right on it. Some rooms maybe a bit far for those with limited mobility but that's not the hotels fault, remember it is a lovely old building and once they get there its fine. There is a lift which is a bonus.

The hotel is one of the oldest in Scotland and I love that about it, but it does mean the floorboards on the top floor at least ( and especially in room 312) are very squeaky. if people from the room next door get up, it sounds as though someone is walking right next to your own bed. Perhaps provision of earplugs would do it, or warning people to bring their own ? I see the hotel still uses individual bottles of toiletries. The signs note that the hotel is keen to help the environment, so maybe it's time to swap them out for the large refillable wall-mounted soaps and shampoos?

Central location was ideal for our visit. Breakfast was excellent, also Race Day 3 course dinner on our 2nd night.

Original room we were allocated was very disappointing, and not what we would expect for a so called superior double room. It was small, dreadful view from the window and a bathroom in need of upgrading. The receptionist offered us an alternative superior twin room which was very good and met our expectations. Building is very old, with sloping and creaky floors. This obviously cannot be changed but some carpets could be upgraded. There is also a musty smell in corridors, but this might also be connected to old floor coverings.

I visited for a student conference and needed somewhere affordable for a night. This place is a gorgeous historic hotel, with large spacious rooms, comfy beds, and was cheaper than holiday inn! It's on the highstreet and within walking distance of the park and amenities.

If I had to be really picky, I needed to drop my bag off and was left to take it to the storage cloakroom myself. It was all the way through the hotel so it might've been nice if staff could've just done that for me. But honestly my stay was exceptional!

This was the third time my family and I spent a short stay in the Salutation Hotel. We found the hotel full of charm and character from the cosy fireplace in reception to the comfortable and spacious rooms. It was a joy to stay in the Salutation Hotel rounded off by a delicious breakfast to set us up for the day ahead. The kindness and hospitality of the staff at the Salutation Hotel deserve a special mention and a bog thank you for making our staff such a happy experience.
