While the hotel has an older feel to it, the wifi, room facilities, constant hot water, room cleanliness, comfort and views from the different rooms were fantastic. We had the superior double room with a verandah and it was so hot we spent a lot of time there after big walks in the morning. In addition, the staff were fantastic - above and beyond the call of duty eg, bringing extra coffee and milk sachets to our room in the evening while dinner was being served. Adam and Marty were on duty and were among the best staff I’ve come across for engagement and professionalism - and I’ve stayed at Gleneagles! The food was also much better than we expected with a very good choice to suit all diets and really delicious.
There is nothing we didn’t like - although I can appreciate some visitors might prefer somewhere with a more state of the art modern feel.

I loved the location, close to the golf and the pubs in the village. The room was brilliant with a view over the harbour, the room was very clean and comfortable, I liked the fact that you had coffee / biscuits in the room. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Our evening meal was very nice, the food was presented well with fresh veg and salad accompaniment . The wine was lovely and reasonably priced.
The only thing I didn’t enjoy so much was breakfast, the cereal selection was fine, but the full breakfast didn’t appear to be cooked to order as the bacon was a bit dry,and I didn’t like the sausage. Aside from that the hotel would have got 10/10

Location is lovely. Very quiet and peaceful. On the ends of the Scottish Earth but you can see a trace of Ireland on the distant horizon. I'm sure you'd find a lively pub if that's your thing, but it's more of a relaxing retreat. And beautiful. I was very well looked after in my hotel, especially during evening meal (thank you). Staff very friendly. Food great!! Room large, clean, quiet and comfortable with brilliant view...see pic. I was returning after about 45 years and my first time as an adult. Not disappointed. Actually...can I make it a 9???
It's a bit of a commitment to get there, but not too bad. Frowny face is misleading. Anything worthwhile takes a little effort. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

The hotel is located in a beautiful elevated point, looking out over the sea. Stunning views. The food is first class. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices. Loved the attention to detail. Tablecloths and table service. Rooms are very spacious, and with tea/coffee. Room was in annexe and had a terrace with table and chairs. Nothing not to like.
If you have mobility problems, then you may struggle a bit as there are a few stairs. I do believe there are more accessible rooms, but the hotel is a bit away from the harbour area as you would need to drive down if you had walking difficulties.

The hotel windows in the bedroom, lounge and restaurant made the most of beautiful sights of the village and the harbour. Our room was spacious , we could sit and relax in the arm chairs enjoying the views from the bay window. The meals were delicious and well cooked and presented. The staff were friendly and looked after all guests we felt very welcomed. Hats of to all the professionalism of the staff, on our first night Portpatrick had a power cut , dinner did not start until 6.30pm and still ran like clockwork.

The views from the hotel are spectacular. The staff are first class friendly professional and couldn’t do enough to help you. Food was excellent and the dining room service both at breakfast and dinner was superb with friendly attentive staff. We will definitely return to the hotel.
The rooms could probably do with a wee bit updating but our room was spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable with two comfy chairs as well. Having the outdoor space with table and chairs was such a bonus especially since the weather was so good.

Lovely location, friendly staff who are so helpful, second time we have stayed here. We would come back despite couple of issues.
The rooms are dated and tired, could do with getting decorators in. The window in our room was broken and during spell of bad weather felt like it was going to blow in. The staff did what they could at time, but clearly needs attention. The Internet signal in our room was intermittent.

A really great hotel, with a great feel to it. It was easy to reach and very good parking. Our room was very comfortable with a view to die for. Breakfast was excellent and the staff could not have been better.
The fan in our bathroom didn’t work and unfortunately another guest in a different room was smoking which then transferred to our bathroom via the duct. A strange experience and whilst not the fault of the hotel, it was unpleasant all the same.

The food for both evening meal and breakfast was good but not excellent. The single sheet of A4 paper that served as a menu didn't present a good image. The sea view room was spacious and comfortable with excellent view over village and sea.
The change from being served tea and coffee at the table at breakfast is a major backward step. Having a machine slowly dispensing the drinks frequently created a queue and the thick pottery mugs would be more at home in a transport cafe.

Beautiful location and the views are spectacular. We stayed in the huge Junior sea view suite, room 15 (see picture gallery no. 3, 5 & 8) The room was lovely with a great sitting area overlooking Portpatrick. Both the main room and the bathroom good if a little tired. Shower was great. Bed was huge and quite comfortable. Good selection of tea/coffee etc in room. The staff were friendly. Dining room was nice with the same lovely views and the food was ok. Good choice of meals and drinks.
The whole hotel was faded grandeur and maybe a little ‘rough around the edges’. Our room was clean enough but there were a few missed cobwebs etc. A few room repairs needed, eg the curtain track, but it was coming to the end of the season. Younger team members maybe a little less experienced. Breakfast Eggs Benedict had 1/2 slice of thin supermarket type ham instead of ‘real’ ham on each muffin - should have ask for bacon instead.
