Beautiful hotel in central York. Excellent service. We had a double room in Roman House (the newer side of the building). The room was immaculate and quiet with lovely views of the city. The spa left a little to be desired but we had left a spa hotel the day prior so it was hard not to compare. But the spa area is small with only a pool, small jacuzzi and small sauna and steam room. You can book this in 1-hour slots which is more than sufficient time. A lovely bonus to an overnight stay but wouldn’t warrant a spa “day” or using this hotel for that sole purpose. We stayed for new year but did not partake in the hotel’s new year gala events, it didn’t disturb us however either. Excellent service but very pricey. Worth is for a special occasion (in this case a short city break immediately following our rural wedding).

The rooms were fabulous, really large, plenty of room for a good restful stay. Breakfast was as expected of such a good hotel, plenty of choice. Location was spot on, close to everything. All staff, without exception were very welcoming and friendly.

The only thing, I did find frustrating was the lack of lounge space, particularly if you were in a party of four or more, lots of two seater set ups but very limited larger groups. I felt that there could have been more space for lounge areas, considering the size of the hotel. We struggled to find seating for a drink in the evening, which was sad, considering the lounges did look lovely and inviting.

Our stay at the Grand was nothing short of impeccable. From the moment we arrived to the morning we checked out, we had an absolutely fantastic stay! I added the Touch of Romance package to our room for my pregnant wife and they were able to replace the Prosecco to a delicious non alcoholic equivalent with ease. The room was extremely peaceful and comfortable, dinner in the Rise restaurant was the best meal we had during our entire stay in York too! The Afternoon Tea was amazing, the 1906 bar serves up a beautifully cosy atmosphere with some top-notch cocktails. Everything about our stay made us feel so welcome and relaxed, the staff are a credit to themselves. It was all just perfect!

We didn't dislike a thing. We loved every minute of our stay!

The concierge and the gentlemen out front, they helped us with the local area and were just so friendly, helped with our bags couldn't have been lovelier. The people who answer the reception phone are great and helpful

Service at breakfast, I was alone with my daughter and on 2 mornings we had not the best experience with 2 separate waitresses which was a shame, as the afternoon tea was lovely. Our room was super cold, but you brought heaters up so we were happy that you made such an effort. The bathroom area could be a lot better and more room for toiletries, as well as a standing shower, those baths are deep and not the best if you have mobility issues, which I didn't mention as just presumed would have a shower - my mistake.

I travelled with my mom for a 3 night break by train so the hotel was a perfect location, being only 5 minutes walk from the railway and 10 mins across the river into the main area around the Minster. Our room was on the ground floor and was a lovely size, with everything you could need for a break. The toiletries supplied were Molton Brown and unlike many hotels, were provided in plenty. Teas, coffee, water and biscuits were also provided daily. Maid service was exceptional and the hotel throughout was immaculate. I only used the pool on one occasion and found the staff in the Spa to be friendly and helpful. The pool itself was peaceful and the areas around, clean. We had breakfast each morning and both my mom and I found the choice exceptional. The fruit was well presented and extremely fresh each morning and there was an assortment of cereal, cheese, meats, yoghurts, pastries as well as a full English. We found the vitamin drink provided each morning at the table to be a delightful extra touch. From the moment we arrived we found all of the Staff members absolutely lovely, from the gents on the door, Pav, Ian and Paul were some of the names I noted who asked about our day, the reception staff who assisted us on a couple of occasions with queries and the restaurant staff who were polite and attentive. One particular staff member who stood out to both of us was James. He checked us in when we arrived, chatted to us throughout check in about our stay and took time throughout the week to speak to us and show an interest in our day. What a credit to the Hotel.

From the minute we walked through the door the 5* experience showed. Doorman dressed smartly offering a warm greeting, Bellman taking bags straight away, wonderfully chatty and pleasant receptionist. Was given the option of a traditional or refurbished more modern room which was a lovely touch. We chose the traditional. Able to access the room upon arrival (90 minutes early) The room although a classic was spacious and luxurious with good quality toiletries provided. Was able to visit the spa after we checked out which allowed us to maximise our time visiting the city and then unwind immediately prior to leaving for home.

Room was a little chilly even though temperature gage said it was high The Bar was Lovely but service was awful could not get service had to keep going to bar to even though barman standing chatting spoke to a few people staying there said same thing just lots of staff not-doing much

Location was perfect. Close to everything we needed. We stayed on a room only basis so can’t comment on food. The room was lovely and very clean. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. The bath had an overhead waterfall shower. And the toiletries were Molten Brown. We found the facilities inside the room to be of very high standard. The mini fridge, iron and hairdryer dryer were a welcome touch. The staff who work here are amazing. From the moment we stepped in the foyer they could not do enough for us. The concierge team are a credit to this hotel as are the reception team.

I found it difficult getting in and out of the bath to have shower. I was nervous every time I got in or out as it was too high for me. I was worried I was going to slip. There was a grab bar but this still didn’t give me much confidence. My husband had no issues with this but he is much taller than me. The view from the room wasn’t much. We could see the city wall and the top of the train station. Not a bad view but not the best. We felt that for the price we paid for two nights in an executive double (£552) was a little steep. However we were prepared to pay this price for a five star hotel as it was for a special occasion. Maybe next time we will request a room with a view with a shower only.

Everything from walking through the doors with our bags was perfect. Staff, location, food, ambience, facilities. Stayed xmas eve and xmas day. The hotel was decorated beautifully. Room.service and quality of food brilliant. Breakfast was a fine dining experience. Loved the size of bathroom.in our room.amd the Molton brown toiletries. The bar area and lounges were exceptional. The staff were over and above, so professional and courteous

Seems petty to make a.criticism.but our windows didn't open. I do like to have open windows so when I book next time.I will request this.

We chose the Grand York for an anniversary and we couldn’t be happier with our stay! The room was in the new part; it was spacious, really clean with quality furniture and amazing bathroom. And best of all we didn’t hear any of the other guests - so great sound proofing. The staff accommodated our request for a bath tub and they did a fantastic job with the add-on for Prosecco, chocolate and rose petals- they even personalised the messages for our anniversary. The spa was great, and all the staff was helpful and friendly. Overall, amazing stay and very beautiful hotel that we’d 100% recommend.
