Everything went smoothly, but was very rushed by the check-in clerk. I was charged parking fees when I did not have a car and didn't realize it when I was chkng in. Another party drove and she paid her parking fee. I didn't contact the hotel about it, because I was so sick with shingles shortly after, and now I believe too much time has passed. But, if the clerk had asked, how many vehicles we had, and the owners' names, I'm pretty sure I would have caught it. Everything else about the hotel was good, and I would book again, I'd just be more careful after a long drive. Denise

The Portola is the most luxurious for the cost. Very reasonable and yet, non pretentious. Everyone who works at the Portillo was Curtis us, friendly, did what they could to ,ale our stay pleasurable and easy. Best location to all of Monterey Wharf, CanneryRow, down town Monterey. All the very best locations, easily walkable from the Portola. The beds are outstanding! Bed linens lovely. We were a family of three and three small Yorkshire Terriers, we always felt like we were happy and comfortable. Our dogs were able to walk around inside the building, inside Peter P’s Brewery and sit on the couches while we enjoyed our coffee and news paper early in the mornings. We even saw working visitors using the computer work station with their dogs sitting on floor in cousin beds! Truly a joy to travel and have your pets considered as family

Only thing I would suggest is that next time we stay with our pets, we get a room on the down stairs level with an outdoor court yard that we can walk directly out from to take our doggy potty breaks. It’s quite annoying to take the elevator, then some stairs down, five times a day with three dogs. But we made it work and we know now better for our next stay

Location is excellent, right in the historic downtown and super close to the wharf. Room had a balcony overlooking the plaza. Comfortable, clean room, nice bed. Staff were very kind and welcoming. The attached spa was lovely and the treatments we booked were completely worth it. Lots of nice restaurants, bars, wharf, and beach all easy walking distance.

Lots of children running around and yelling everywhere. The pool / hot tub was completely unusable because it was full of kids who weren't being supervised appropriately and were literally cannonballing into the hot tub and splashing strangers and nobody was stopping them. That was a huge bummer, especially as the pool area is connected to the spa which is so nice and relaxing.

We visit Monterey all of the time . We attended the New Year's Eve event at the hotel . The location was nicely located , the staff was very friendly and happy . The room was nicely decorated , very clean and the bed was comfortable . I liked the lighting that lit up around the bed . Very tastefully done. The only thing that I would suggest is the menu for Jack's restaurant that was located at the hotel . It would have been a nice touch to have the menu inside the room . I had to search for the menu selections online . I am definitely returning for another stay in the near future . Happy New Year !

It would have been nice to have Jack's Restaurant menu in the room . The coffee maker did not work and my guests that also had their own room told us the same thing . The coffee maker did not work either for them .

Really stylish hotel, in the perfect central location. Lovely outdoor pool. Room was spacious and had nice balcony.

It was on the pricey side without breakfast, plus parking etc. Would have preferred not to have to walk across a public road in my bath robe to get to the pool (which was across the road next to the hotel's car park). We also had to ask staff a couple of times for anything we needed (normal stuff like change of towels or when we checked in we needed an extra sheet), which we didn't have was no problem in other hotels on our trip. If you're not planning on being in the hotel much, you could probably find yourself somewhere a little less expensive and be happy, but it's still a lovely place.

Communication with the staff and their language was somewhat misleading. Check-in was easy spooth, pricing was horrible. They gouged us so deeply.I nearly spent a thousand dollars for 10pm to noon . . No spa availability, no use of a shower, After the hot tub. There was no questions in regards to my AAA or discounts so I could save money That way, we were caught between a rock and a hard place and it was saturday night, they gouged us pretty deeply. i would love to try it again with reservations. Spa treatment, a little longer stay Because the amount of money I spent was just unreasonable. the property is beautiful. It's located in a great location.Everything else is really 5 star. in hindsight, I should have cancel my reservations upon arriving used my discounts and had a better discussion with staff. In regards to when we had to check out, there was no leeway. There was no late checkout, but we were told that requesting that in the morning would have been A positive experience and it wasn't

Proximity to the wharf

Very Expensive once you add in all of the taxes and $22 for parking.

This is our second time at Portola, and I can assure you we will be back. From the moment you arrive we instantly felt welcome. Joseph, our Valet was so kind and remembered our names. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming with great tips on where to eat, or visit. We also love that it’s near everything you need for entertainment. It’s such a walkable area, we especially love the trolly that takes you around town. - also, love how pet friendly they are. Harlem 🐶 loved his adventure too! I can’t wait to be back!

The Pool is a little noise next to the tunnel where everyone loves to honk.

We travelled with our 9 month old baby and dog and our stay was fantastic. The hotel is very well located at a good distance to the beach and the main street with restaurants. They provided us with a crib and a bed for our dog which was highly appreciated. The rooom and facilities were very clean at all times. If we come back to Monterrey will repeat for sure.

The only think we did not like was the bed. It was uncomfortably soft and affected our rest for the two nights.

Extremely central location. Very easy to walk everywhere - fisherman's wharf, aquarium, many restaurants and cafes. Large room with partial ocean view. Good lighting, comfortable beds and new amenities. Pool and jacuzzi are open 7am to 10pm. Convenient self parking across a pedestrian street is $22 a night for hotel guests.

Jack's restaurant's breakfast is mediocre. Quality seems low for a high end hotel. Oily omelette, reheated potatoes and very blend coffee. Would be better to get breakfast in a nearby cafe or restaurant.
