Classic feel hotel, a bit quaint and very charming. Location was great, close enough to Union square, Market Street, and Chinatown to walk. Quick and inexpensive to rideshare or take public transit to other locations like Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's Wharf and the Embarcadero.

The bedsheets felt a bit old, hot water was a bit tough to get in the shower. Breakfast was okay but a bit limited and thus disappointing. Some rough areas of the city are only a couple streets away, but they are easy enough to avoid if you do a bit of research beforehand.

I heard of this place from a friend of mine who comes to San Francisco every year for more than a decade and is a recurring customer. I have made mistakes in my booking (I booked the wrong starting day! I basically showed up without a reservation for the day, as I messed up with the time zone!) and the staff was super helpful and basically saved my life. This alone was worth staying here. Overall, considering the alternatives, this is a pretty decent place with a reasonable price. I liked the fact that you have a kitchenette, and you can prepare or warm up some simple food or deliveries yourself. I also liked the coffee machine, although it uses capsules that are difficult to buy by yourself at groceries – getting extras from the hotel is expensive, but as I was alone, I had more than enough, and they replenished them every day. The room was even too big for me, but this was the best option as I had to stay +10 days. Extra bonus: if you are Italian, they have the bidet – at least it was in my room, as you can see from the photos! This was unexpected and great to find. They also have special pet-friendly rooms if you travel with your dog, for instance. I would definitely recommend this hotel as well for family visits. It exceeded my expectations even despite my friend recommending it.

Breakfast wasn't the best. It was okay for me as I only needed coffee, and once I wanted a “real” breakfast on the only day I was free from the conference and could relax a bit in the morning, I went to one of the famous places in San Francisco which I wanted to try anyway. Therefore, this didn't bother me, but guests should know they should not expect anything magnificent. However, this was plenty documented by other guests before I booked it, so I expected it.

Really confortable, clean and nice stuff :)

The hotel is located near an area with lots of homeless and drug addicts. It's not dangerous, but it's not a nice view. Obviously that's not the hotel's fault, but it's something to know.

The hotel is set in an old building full of character. Our room was very clean, spacious and very well equipped. Fully functional kitchen area, wonderful. Good location as your close to Union Sqaure - good for shops, bars, place to eat Wonderful little touches - breakfast box, which we opted not to take, the afternoon Cheese and wine was a delight. Despite coming through a pandemic, like many others, this hotel really knows how to wow their guests and I'd definitely recommend the hotel

I think it's cultural, but the complete rudeness and hostile attitude of the man and a little lady of the reception. Bad manners, rude and very unpleasant! Funny, when you "bite" back or as I did point out how rude they were to their face, their whole demeanour changed. Surely, you'd be happy to have a job and be in business in the current world climate. If you can't be polite, look for another job!!!

I love the charm of this older hotel. My husband andI have stayed there twice and loved it each time. It is well positioned. I feel safe there which is important when travelling alone.

Some people may like a more modern bathroom but the bathroom is clean and functional and I think it is fine.

We enjoyed the afternoon cheese and wine offering, and the continental breakfast was nice. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The pet deposit was an exceptional value.

We had a difficult time finding a place close by for our dogs to do their business, but we realize the city is the city.

The room was clean and rather large. The staff was helpful.

The neighborhood isn't in a good part of town. The hotel is a few streets away from a lot of homeless people and drug addicts. we didn't feel comfortable walking near the hotel at night and mostly use uber so we will be on the street the least amount of time possible.

Beautiful high ceilings and a lovely foyer. Great options for dining nearby. The hotel offers breakfast and wine and cheese at night. The breakfast was yogurt, apples, croissants, and oatmeal packets, with the option of juice, coffee, teas or hot chocolate. It was plenty to get you started for the day, and excellent to return at night for a tiny nosh before going to a meal nearby.

The elevator is very slow! Because of the high ceilings, it's a lot of stairs if you are on an upper floor. But, the elevator is also smooth!

Nice clean rooms. The staff forgot to make up the room one day. Breakfast in the reception area was adequate to start the day. NIce wine and cheese happy hour in the afternoon. Close to many amenities.

Front desk staff were not the friendliest. One gentleman kept trying to push the sales of the city hop on hop off bus. He said he could get us a great deal only if we bought that day, but said that to us each day. And his price was far more than buying tickets at the station. The afternoon lady who worked behind the check in counter and organized the wine time was rude and dismissive of many people many of whom did not speak English as their first language. The hotel is fine, but is on the border of nicer areas and the area with many homeless people.
