I have read reviews before booking, and they were spot on - perfect location, unique atmosphere, and great hosts who kindly offered to store my bag when I was on tour all day after checking out I also liked looking through the windows to busy streets below with restaurants as that was more entertaining during evenings than tv

As expected from historic buildings, walls are not soundproof and stairs would be an issue for some people as mentioned in most of reviews.

The location of our room was fantastic - right in the middle of the Dioclesian Palace. Very comfortably appointed. It was also very good that the owner warned us that the staircase was steep and very windy - we took backpacks as luggage! It would not have been fun lugging a huge suitcase up the stairs!

A little explanation that the entrance to the staircase, and our accommodation, was actually in the wall of the Palace. A photograph of the entrance would have been very useful.

It was lovely to be within the walls of the Palace and explore the horrendously expensive shops and restaurants. The room was comfortable and very pleasant.

The spiral staircase up to the third floor accommodation were treacherous and rickety. I believe they need attention along with the rope hand rail which is becoming detached in places. I was expecting the staircase but in better order. AVOID IF YOU HAVE EVEN THE SLIGHTEST MOBILITY ISSUES.

The location inside the Golden Gate is fantastic (and practical) and makes it worth the stay. Staff kind and reactive, also we asked and received very useful recommendations from the staff for restaurants.

The enormous potential of the location would need more investments in restoration. We stayed twice, the rooms offer different confort ( 1 more spacious and nicer than 3, but 3 has a kitchen), and the original architecture is not put forward by the modern and anonymous cladding. Split in general is disfigured by air conditioning, heating the outside air, would be good to propose also fans which consume 20 times less.

I loved this place -- located in a basically a turret of one of the gates of Diocletian's palace--the decor is modern but it's an extremely atmospheric location. Split was a real highlight of our 3 week European trip. Room was comfortable. Didn't meet the owner but her communications over whatsapp were incredibly helpful and her husband was there to let us in upon our late arrival on the train from Zagreb. Wish we'd stayed longer.

An hidden large apartment exactly inside the Golden Gate historical wall gate, 3 bedrooms with their own private bathrooms. Room 2 was facing the internal yard so very quiet. Room 1 and 3 were instead more exposed to external noises being mainly people shouting at night. Lara, was a very helpful and friendly person and gave us many good tips on places to visit. Reliable and fast Wi-Fi. All facilities including room size, bed and bathroom were great and just made my stay in Split perfect.

There was a kettle in the room but no coffee or tea bags to use (like in the other 2 rooms), not sure if these might have been forgotten. The accommodation has no lift, just some beautiful wooden spiral stairs to reach the top, so not ideal for guests with some mobility difficulties.

Very cool to sleep in the guard tower of the ancient palace! Nice, clean and cool (air condition) rooms and helpful host. The narrow steps up to the rooms were a fun feature for us but probably tricky if you have large and heavy luggage.

The balcony is small and squeezed in between buildings and air condition fans. But with the beautiful old town literally on your doorstep, you don’t need it anyway. Croatia have really boosted prices for rooms and restaurants. Everything was much more expensive than we expected.

The owner and host was an outstanding individual. He was the most helpful and kindest person. He helped us get from car rental to his property. He also carried our bags up many stairs to our room which was so appreciated! The room is located in the old city in the place which is so awesome. So convenient to everything- restaurants, open markets, shopping… It’s an opportunity to stay in a building over 1,000 years old! Wow! Such history could be felt in the walls. When driving us back to the airport he helped us in with all our heavy luggage right to ticket desk. The room was comfortable, clean- had everything we needed including a lovely porch with table and chairs with view of church tower.

Nothing The only thing I would say is this accommodation would not work for someone with a physical disability re walking as there are a number of spiral steps up to the room.

Staying at Golden Gate Dream Rooms was an exceptional experience. The location is just inside the old city walls and the wow factor of staying in a palace built in the 4th century is unique. I truly enjoyed my stay and would book again when my travel plans include Split. The friendly and very welcoming hosts spoke English well and live just down the hall of the three rooms they rent to travelers. That is a great asset as many rental rooms in Split do not have a quick personal contact available. Room 3 is an efficiency studio with two new windows that open to let in light and fresh air. The old green shutters add to the ambiance and are functional. The air conditioner worked perfectly during the warm days. The view out the windows is of a restaurant and courtyard below and the original palace walls. The room was comfortable and very convenient to attractions and restaurants in Split. The convenience and unique location of Golden Gate Dream Rooms makes it a great place to stay.

Golden Gate Dream Rooms is on the 3rd floor and accessed by a well worn spiral staircase. The wood staircase steps are very sturdy and there is a heavy rope "handrail" that works well. It's a unique experience and as a senior traveler with a small 12kilo weight suitcase it took careful effort to get it upstairs. I'm sure my hosts would have been happy to assist but I brought it up myself.

Great location quirky property in the city Walls in the heart of historic Split, nice little terrace with great view of the tower, owner really nice and helpful, helped with bags and a taxi to the airport

Nothing, steep climb to the rooms but we knew about that and if you are fit and healthy not an issue and the kind owner helped with our bags anyway
