Room was huge! Bed was also huge and very comfortable. Room was warm, electric blankets and wall heater. Bathroom large, hot water and good water pressure from shower. The shared spaces were also very big. Everything we needed in the kitchen - all utensils, crockery etc. A few sofas, lots of dining room space, TV, and books and games available plus the table tennis. Balcony wrapped around the building and had a great view of surrounding area. Easy to get to Kaikoura town if you have a car. Plus we were the only people there which was awesome!

Continental breakfast was simple, maybe some yogurt or fruit juice would have been a nice addition, but no real complaints as it was a great place to stay!

We had a warm welcome from Stephen and Mary on arrival. Mary showed us all the facilities and explained about breakfast arrangements and use of the kitchen which was communal. Our room was very comfortable and we also made use of the communal games room where table tennis was available and many board games and books. We liked the social aspect and inclusivity of the accommodation. When we left we had a problem setting up our navigation system and Mary spent quite a long time trying to help us. You may be glad to know, Mary, that it did start working again as we approached Christchurch! There are amazing views of the mountains from the lodge.

The property is set up to be user-friendly for disabled people, so access is easy and the facilities are spotless. The shared kitchen/dining/lounge is large, sunny and fully equipped for preparing and serving all types of meals, so you can eat in or dine out. A continental breakfast and tea/coffee anytime is provided. The location on the edge of the golf course and on the Kaikoura cycle trail is peaceful and convenient; just a short drive to the beach. I would definitely stay here again.

We had the whole place for ourserlves. The rooms was comfy, smart tv, towels and bed were amazing as you could move your body up and down and it had electric blankets. Brekkie was complete, ac all around the place ping pong in the living room and many books for a quiet night.

It would have been a nice touch to be upgraded as we were the only ones in the house, but it is ok! We loced it and we are definitely coming back next time.

Very nice location in a quiet area, a 5-minutes drive from Kaikoura town centre. Close to the beach which is nice for a walk. All is very clean and new. We felt very comfortable from the first moment. Also the hosts were very friendly. Good to know for others: Breakfast is not served but is self-service in the kitchen facilities - coffee/tea, cereals, toast, honey/jam. There is a fridge in the kitchen where you can store stuff which you bring on your own.

The staff/owners were really nice. The room was clean and tidy. Had everything needed for our stay. Other clients were friendly and thoughtful ie kept kitchen clean and tidy. We all pitched in together. Good choice of food and hot beverages for breakfast.

Realizing we were a late booking our room was quite small. Weather was piping hot and this made the room feel even smaller. Did have ceiling fan and A/C which kept the room cooler all night. No window so had to keep the ranch slider open all night. Unfortunate that the only way to access the kitchen was by going outside and down external stairs.

Reception went very well. Stephen was there waiting for us when we arrived. He showed us around the apartment. Downstairs there was breakfast available, cereals, milk, all utensils, etc. Our apartment was very nice, The bed was very comfortable, shower was great, and the room was ample size. The apartment was in a beautiful area off the highway. Stephen told us to leave the key in the door when we left. There were many vehicles parked on the street around the apartments, which signified to me that the apartments were well in demand.

Beautiful property with huge bedrooms and common areas. All the 5 bedrooms we booked had attached bathroom. The kitchen was well-equipped for us to cook a meal for 10 of us! All the rooms were clean and cosy. We had the common areas ie living, dining, kitchen, etc, to ourselves as there were no other guests for the night. We love too that there was no time limit to use the washer and dryer by. Mary took care to give precise instructions beforehand so it was a breeze to check in by ourselves. All of us enjoyed very much our stay at Kakatu Retreat! Thanks.

Quiet location, well equipped communal kitchen, good sized bedroom

The bottom sheet on the bed was one of those rubberised (or plastic) ones that are quite sweat-inducing. We put bath towels on top and then got a great night's sleep. There was no toilet seat lid, which was unhygienic so we kept our washbags in the bedroom

rooms were spacious and comfortable, shared kitchen area was also good with all the utensils , dining sets , wine glasses provided. Living room area was comfy too and there were books to read and a table tennis.
