Sharon and staff could not have done enough for us. It was my friend's birthday and she organised flowers, bubbly and cake which my friend loved. The castle itself is charming, full of amazing historic features. We stayed in the Navy room with a stunning view out over the bay. Breakfast was excellent, service was especially good with the friendly staff catering to all guests particular needs. After breakfast we strolled up to St Barrahane's Church, to view the incredible Harry Clarke stained-glass windows and visit the graves of Sommerville and Ross. Castletownshend is such a gem & we will be back!

I loved this whole experience she was very flexible to us checking in later as the roads were a little strange to people not from Ireland to get there. The bed was so comfortable, and you felt like royalty in the Archbishop room. The breakfast was so amazing your actually having tea on the family castle China which I think is so beautiful it was hands down the best place that we stayed during our entire trip!

It was a little hot however it was a castle so it was built to insulate! She provided a fan in the cabinet which helped with air flow while they were having a heat wave so really not a negative thing and she provided an alternative.

The Castle was beautiful, the location was exceptional, the grounds were stunning, the breakfast was delicious. It was truly a wonderful experience. We were able to take a beautiful walk around the grounds before breakfast and another one after breakfast. The grounds were so peaceful and the lake I could have sat all day at and enjoyed the beauty. Also were able to walk to dinner at a local pub.

My bed was a little hard but my friend says hers was very comfortable

The Castle was so special and beautiful. The room was thoughtfully appointed with chargers, a blow dryer, even a makeup remover cloth. The propety is beautiful with walking trail all around it with tons to see. The furniture, decor, and rare, vintage books were spectacular to look at and admire. Sharon the host was helpful and lovely to deal with. The breakfast was out of this world. We would’ve paid €75 for the breakfast alone if we had stayed somewhere else. we will return and have already told many people on our next stop about this hidden gem.

Nothing.

WOW, what an unbelievable place, the room was better than fantastic, it was the nicest room ever. The views were great, the hostess was exceptional, the walk in the woods during a rain was spectacular. The breakfast was superb, the only thing wrong was we only had 1 night there, we could stay there for a week. There is a nice restaurant (Mary Anns) a very short walk away with great food and the owner was one of the nicest people we ever met, with tons of knowledge. I can't say enough good things about the stay & hostess/owner.

There is nothing to dislike about this place

We were looking for one night near Skibbereen Heritage Centre to find out more about my family history. This hotel was 4 miles away so it suited our purposes. We had no idea, though, how wow it was when we booked it and wished we could have stayed longer - however, our schedule didn't allow for it. A really beautiful hotel with lovely well-maintained grounds. We also had a seaview from our room. The breakfast was really special too. With the Mary Ann gastro pub's tasty evening meals just 2 minutes away what more could you want? Can't recommend it enough.

Nothing

Where to start? The Castle is an exceptional hotel. Rich in history. It is a lovely mix of the palatial and personal. The location is superb, overlooking the sea/harbour. It was unforgettable to be somewhere so remote, beautiful, and so private. The interiors are filled with art, quirky antiques, clocks, books, ornaments, and paintings, like walking inside a museum. I loved my bedroom with the sea view. I was late for check-in but received a warm welcome from Sharon, the owner, who was accommodating and waited for my arrival. Also, another lady, Veronica, from the staff, was very hospitable and passionate about the place and provided excellent info about the history of the building. The breakfast was royal and well-fit with the Castle in quality and taste; it was quintessentially Irish, served in beautiful china and the most splendid room. Not to mention the company of very charming and adorable border collie - Thank you

Amazing location and beautiful accommodation, full delicious breakfast included. Sharon was so nice and helpful and created a lovely relaxed atmosphere at the unique and historic Castle. The twin room was spotless with lovely views. Gorgeous walks in nature on your doorstep. Great value for money and a lot of thought and love has gone into making this place so special, would definitely stay here again, thanks Sharon! 🎊

Amazing castle feeling in a quiet, idyllic area right on a calm bay, with walking opportunities on the property Friendly staff, kind and attentive (especially at the breakfast) Modern bathroom (although a bit tight), the only one we have been where hot and cold water faucets are not separate, and high quality toiletries Excellent breakfast

Small bathroom Lack of electric sockets next to the bed

Location is AMAZING. Everything else is great but let's say it, more than anything else, it's an amazing house in an amazing place in a really nice town. We got a room with a view on the sea/fjord and it was fantastic. The estate around the castle was a day-filler in itself. The staff was also extremely kind and helpful. The place's description on Booking "apologizes" for there being no lifts and similar modern stuff. I didn't miss them. The feeling of being in a beautiful old mansion (not sure if it's technically a castle, but it's wonderful) was worth more than any possible modern commodity.
