Most stunning view I have ever had from a hotel room and from the restaurant/infinity pool area. The hotel room was large, clean, air-con worked and had a hot shower, which we often didn’t find travelling around Mexico. It was lovely to fall asleep to the waves crashing on the beach. Plus at a moderate price. I would seriously find it hard to believe that there is anywhere better to stay in Mazunte! Great location with a 5mins walk down the steps to the best part of the beach. Short walk down to the Main Street where the bakery, restaurants, shops and ATMs are. It was also close to the top 2 attractions in Mazunte: 1. Punta Cometa (15mins Walk to a point with beautiful views. Everyone goes to watch the sunset. If you are daring, go earlier, 4pm and you can climb down to the rock pool and have a swim) 2. Laguna Ventanilla (15mins Drive/50mins walk from Mazunte) - In terms of the lagoon tour there are two companies. * Lagarto Real (RED SHIRTS, located at the end of the road closest to the beach) 120 pesos per person. The tour was in Spanish which we didn’t understand, but we enjoyed it very much anyway * Servicios Ecoturisticos La Ventanilla (WHITE SHIRTS) REVIEWS WOULD SUGGEST THEY ARE A BIT DODGY Leonard our hotel manager at Altamira was super helpful. Providing us a room with an awesome view as requested. He also helped to book our flight to Oaxaca via Aerotucan as we don’t speak/read Spanish. To top it off, he also gave great advice on where to go to eat; Food & Drink (Ticks are the ones we tried) Smoothies - El Tiburón ✅ Tropical Bowl was our favourite. Lunch - La negra ✅ Chill place to sit and view the beach. Has the best shrimp tacos, guacamole and aqua de melon. - Tertulia Dinner 6pm - La tribu - Fish and love ✅ Tasty shrimp dinner Dinner neighbouring town - El navegante
The hotel was getting renovated after storm damage but to be honest the repairs didn’t affect our stay at all. There are some mosquitoes but if you use the air-con in the room they stay away.

Fabulous location!! We asked to switch rooms because the first room we were given had a strong chemical odor from cleaning detergents used to clean the bathroom, and there were no windows in the bathroom to air it out. The second room we were given was a bungalow perched on the hillside, with a glorious view of the beach and ocean, so we were happy with the change. This hotel is an excellent value for the money. Try to get a room with ocean view. Also, the hotel is right next to the entrance to the Punta Cometa trail that takes you to the best, most majestic sunset you’ll see — highly recommend you go there every evening. The infinity pool is a wonderful bonus!
The coffee & breakfast were not great, in our opinion. I would opt to go to a cafe in the village for that.

The location of this property is divine. We had a room with a terrace facing the ocean. With the windows open, we could see the Sunrise in our bed. Rinconcinto Beach is some steps down, which felt like a private beach access. Playa Mermejita is also a short walk. I felt like we were at the best spot to access both beaches and Punta Cometa. The room is spacious and has a King-size bed. Other amenities in the room are basic but as expected. No A/C but we slept fine with the ceiling fan. Breakfasts were included in our booking and are well worth the price!
No one works there speaks English, which is as expected, but they didn't seem to care about communication anyway. You're pretty much on your own to figure things out.

The views are amazing. The pool is a brilliant place to watch and listen to the ocean and relax. The bungalow is cute, no ac but fans and breeze worked. Breakfast was good on a perfect breezy patio. It was great having ocean view but be up a bit where it is cooler. The guy at desk was very helpful with information about how to return to Oaxaca city. If you don’t mind lots of steps, it’s fantastic.
I enjoyed everything. It is a walk/climb to get anywhere. Stairs to the beach or up from bungalow to pool. They sold beer and sodas in afternoon/evening. If they had snacks, bar drinks, even simple sandwiches…. I never would have left.

the views and the location made this hotel special. We loved our beach cabin, the morning sunrise in the hammock was perfect and the sounds of the waves so relaxing. Breakfast and food from the bar were amazing! Fresh and cooked to order. Staff were amazing and went above and beyond to help :) please note that there are 266 steps from the hotel reception area to the beach, incase you have mobility issues etc. we stayed in both the beach cabin (no AC but they had a powerful fan) and the AC room next to the pool and definitely preferred the former!

Staff were very helpful and always pleasant. Room was very spacious- I loved the hammock outside. Very comfortable- does not pretend to be 5 star - what it does it does very well! Loved swimming in the infinity pool when it got dark - no light pollution so magical star gazing
Hot water was not always available but it was sooo hot cool showers would have been my choice anyway. Had to walk up Heart Lattack Hill to get back from the main town or up stepsfrom the beach.0

Spectacular location with panoramic views across Mazunte (for the price, the views here are unbeatable). The hillside location is also convenient in the hot weather because you get a lovely breeze. 5 minute walk down steps to main beach or down the road to the main strip. We had a superb breakfast included and also had lunch here once - my husband's aguachile was one of the best he'd ever had. Lots of bird life to watch from the infinity pool. Pool was very clean and a great temperature. Overall, the hotel was very quiet with other couples and small families - we had no problems with noise during our stay.
The pool area could do with more loungers and cushions. Some of the cushions were dirty and some of the wooden chairs didn't have any. In our opinion, the rooms are basic for the price (although we got a discount through here so the price we paid was quite fair). We stayed in the double with terrace - we had a bed, table with 2 chairs, a safe, one bedside lamp, and a rack to hang clothes. The terrace had a table with a chair, a wooden lounge chair, and a hammock. However, for us, the pool and the view were what we paid for. We would recommend a room with AC for comfort. Be prepared for bugs and the odd crab in your room - this didn't bother us at all as we travel a lot and know that this is normal in tropical climates. However, some guests may not be prepared for this!

The restaurant and pool overlooking the coast are beautiful. It is a nice walk down a number of states to the beach or over unpaved roads (past very nice shops and cafes) into town. The staff were very nice and helpful. One of the rooms, with the big bed, beautiful view, hammock and balcony was incredible.
The shower did not get hot right away (not a big problem as it was quite warm out). In one room downstairs there was a strong smell that should be looked into.

I have to be honest, we had a new room, with Airconditioning. Clean, good mattress, huge space, beautiful view! I know, that for a little less money, you get a bungalow with view, but no Airconditioning, and yes, the room is old, they had an huracan recently, so not all the rooms are already repaired, but they build some new, please, respect that they are trying to do their best. So, you have a choice; go for cheaper, but expect less, or pay more, and you are spoiled! If you really care about it, then call them or e-mail them first, or select the most expensive room. The service is top, top top! Leonardo from the receptionist was so warm, helped us, and I could pay cash or by card. Also, Elli de girl who served my food during lunch was wonderfull. So much love from the people who worked here. Thank you for the lovely stay. Mucho Amor!
I liked everything.

We were blown away with Mazunte. Our stay at Altimara was above and beyond what we imagined. The location was perfect. The grounds were beautiful. The staff was wonderful and patient with us and our limited English. The food was good and everyone there went above and beyond for us. the BEST pool. Lots of seating in and out of the sun. WE played a lot of Gin Rummy by moonlight up in the general lounge area, We spent 12 days on the Oaxaca coast and are already planning our next trip back in January 2024. If there is availability we would most definitely stay at Altimara again.
Only 2 things that would have made it better. A coffee maker in the room and a small fridge to keep drinks/food in. We always had leftovers from places but didn't have a place to keep them.
