A very pleasant surprise! Booked because we were going to a show in Croydon but wanted somewhere more out of the way for the weekend. Beautiful grounds and we were very lucky with the weather so could walk around the golf course and sit outside at the end of October. Room was lovely and nice view over the grounds. Dinner on Saturday evening was very good and good value - duck in particular was amazing. Our waitress was very friendly. Bar/restaurant area very relaxed.

Paid for breakfast on Monday morning. Cooked breakfast was nice but there was no buffet on for some reason so we didn’t have a choice. Coffee in pots was cold by the end of service. Language of some of the golfers on the terrace! I know it’s not within the hotel’s control but I don’t really want to hear loads of swearing when we’re trying to relax.

Lovely location and environment. Lively - obviously well liked in the area. Nice sized rooms. Wanted a modest supper - they had just the thing.

£20 charge per night for the dog. They said they had to put up the fee as some dogs were very destructive. I think it would be fairer to charge a modest fee per night and ask dog-owners for a deposit, in case their animal chews pillows, etc. Breakfast was limited. Didn’t like coffee and tea in thermos flasks. Where was the nice Nespresso machine?

Beautiful location, excellent bar and restaurant with a wide range of meals on the menu. The staff were friendly and really helpful, especially the lovely Vanessa. We had an issue with our ironing board but this was put right incredibly quickly. We had a luxury double which was very spacious, with separate desk, coffe table and armchairs. The bathroom was huge, with both walk-in shower and bath. We'd be very happy to stay in this room again.

The only one thing we didn't like was the design of the sink/tap in the bathroom as it was virtually impossible to control the water flow and temperature and we ended up flooding the floor and ourselves on more than one occasion.

I was intrigued to stay here as previous guests seemed to rate it either 1/5 or 5/5 and wondered why the differing ratings. The double room I had was huge, with a lovely view over the golf course (I also had a nice walk around the the golf course). The bed was very comfortable and there were two armchairs to sit in. The room was well heated with an extra heater if you needed it. I also noticed in the cupboard fans if you need them in the summer. The staff were excellent very helpful and kind. There was always someone on reception and the phone was answered very quickly. When I asked for extra toilet roll and milk for my room they arrived at the rood very quickly with a huge pile of milks and loo rolls. Very different from some stingy places I have stayed in. I didn't eat at the hotel as I was visiting friends so I cannot comment on the food.

As some other comments have indicated the decor is a bit tired and could do with repainting - but the room was not as bad as I was expecting but a long shot. The windows didn't close fully and did let in some draft although the curtains cut that out at night. However some of the curtain hooks were missing and this seems an easy thing for the hotel to sort out so why don't they. But the curtain did close properly so not an issue, but still looks untidy.

Used as a base for a small family gathering for my birthday while we stayed. All staff very accommodating, friendly and helpful - which made my day really enjoyable and all my children and grandchildren had fun too. We drank, ate and chatted and food was ordered from the bar - which included vegan options. I want to thank the staff at the hotel for making my 64th birthday bash a successful and memorable one. We also did the walk around the golf course and went into London, via Coulsdon S. station to see the Monet Expo at Brick Lane - which was also a memorable experience for us both,

Nothing,

The hotel was situated in a leafy suburb with a large and safe car park. It is surrounded by the golf course so is perfectly quiet. The restaurant with good with a good choice of meals. The personnel were very agreeable and helpful. The bus to Croydon Station left from the bottom of the hotel drive so central London was only three quarters of an hour away by public transport.

The window needed washing and the bathroom equipments could do with renewing a little.

Paula on reception was really helpful and friendly. Liked the atmosphere of the hotel, olde-worlde in places, slightly more modern in others. Gorgeous views from our room. Bed really comfortable and room spacious. Plenty of sockets.

Top of the tap missing in bathroom, an electric socket didn't work and another had a bit of tape on it. Not big things but gives impression that staff not bothered about fixing things. Hotel part of a golf course but the golf pro shop didn't sell golf clubs.

The property is stunning, and the staff are welcoming. Rooms are very nice.

The water in the hotel (which I can only assume is down to the size and age of the building) took a very long time to run through to a hot temperature in the shower in the morning. The bath also was just about warm enough once it has been ran. The only other inconvenience was the breakfast, we had planned to come to breakfast at 7am as we needed to check out at 7.30am for our day. However the staff had advised us that the chef was late and breakfast was not ready, so we were unable to have breakfast before checking out.

The staff member who checked us in was so friendly. She upgraded our room for us. The room was stunning like something from a book. We went to the bar and sat out in the garden for a drink overlooking the golf course. It was stunning. The girl who checked us out the next morning was so friendly too. It’s a stunning place

The breakfast didn’t quite match the rest of the experience. It was fine but given how lovely everything else was I thought it could have been a bit more fresh and it was slightly cold.

This is a return visit- stayed here last summer. Country house vibe but not too done up. Wrap around 1930's golf course makes it feel like it is in country rather than outer london suburb- room very spacious and serviceable (stayed in extension this time) , restaurant is good, breakfast very good, all staff friendly and efficient- would recommend for a short stay. Regular trains from coulsdon south and caterham to london.

not something that could be remedied in short term but seems a shame that tennis courts( where i used to play as a kid!) are disused and overgrown- would surely be a great facillity for hotel and club if they could be restored?
