Location. Size of the room and en suite bathroom. Staff were really friendly and helpful and very welcoming to our dog! Breakfast was nice and there was a good selection.
There was seating for use of guests immediately outside our bathroom window and despite the window panes being obscured it was still possible to see silhouettes of people outside when inside the bathroom and to see the silhouette of the plant on the bathroom windowsill from the outside. This was a little disconcerting when using the toilet! Possible a curtain or other screen would be nice to have and provide a bit more privacy.

Clovelly is the most beautiful village we visited in Devon and we were very lucky to have stayed for a few days. At the top of the road leading to the village there are sledges designed to carry laggages to the village (I advise you not to take many luggages, not like my husband and I did :)) The parking is easy to access from the village, within walking distance - this is a village ideal for hikers and people who like a little bit of exercise. 😀 The village itself is breathtaking and full of history and culture. We loved the abundance of plants and flowers on the pathway and outside the houses. The New Inn Hotel is not an exception. Quite the opposite, it blends very well with the whole picture of the village. We received room 8, the cosiest room in the hotel with a very beautiful view and a lovely balcony. Breakfast was very filling and with many options. The inn has a restaurant with delicious food. The staff was very helpful and kind. Go for walks down the cobblestones and reach the harbour. You won't regret it. :)

The choice of food offered for breakfast would suit everyone; the menu for the cooked breakfast could be varied to order. The food was well cooked and well presented with little waiting time. The breakfast room was spacious and well furnished in keeping with the historic nature of the entire hotel. The location of The New Inn could not be better as it is in the heart of Clovelly; a guest has only to step outside onto the cobbles to experience the unique beauty of this ancient village.
Just one small point which was rather crucial at the time, but amusing in retrospect; there was very little lavatory paper left and no spare roll provided so it was necessary to go downstairs to ask a member of the staff to find another roll, urgently!

We really enjoyed our stay - the hotel is like a time capsule, capturing the essence of a quintessential tiny village olde worlde lodging. Fabulous attentive friendly staff and great care was taken with meet my vegan dietary needs. We would definitely recommend to friends and in fact already have - just make sure you take only the lightest bag / case from the car park at the top where you leave your car - it is a steep wobbly cobble walk - great for your daily steps but better without a heavy suitcase.

Breakfast was great. The room was a little small, but I loved the balcony looking out on the main street. We liked the food at the restaurant and being able to pop in for a drink, although we had pretty much exhausted the menu after four nights. The Italian woman with dark hair was great as was Tonia who greeted us. We liked having the coastal trail above the village and walked on it every day.
I didn't quite expect the steepness and unevenness of the walk down to the Inn, but we made it fine and it ended up being my favorite place of the whole trip. My husband is about to have knee surgery, but he is in good shape so it worked out. We are 76 and 81. Most people our age could not do it, but I am very glad we did. These challenging places are the kind I like, so I will never regret that we stayed there. We couldn't seem to get fresh towels, although there was a stack of them and other things like toilet paper and coffee creamer to grab. I think they were short-staffed.

A beautiful old building in a beautiful town. The food was amazing and we had a room with an en suite and a sea view with balcony! Although the rooms could really do with some TLC it was a lovely stay and we will definitely book again!
The rooms just needed upgrading, the paint was peeling off the walls and the carpet and furniture very old and used but the majority of the room was still clean

Clovelly is a destination, with historic streetscape, structures, compact gardens, and hillsides and sea. Outstanding walking experiences. Our room had a balcony with a view to opposite streetscape and hillsides and a peek-a-boo down the street to the sea. Room had a compact bath and bedroom with a non-working fireplace and some character ceiling under the main roof. Very good full cooked breakfast with yogurt or cereal starters if you like in a character-filled room.
You want the windows open for the sea breeze, but the street noise, even if non-alcohol-enhanced speech, is loud. Our room was above the common entry porch, so people out there speaking [not aggressive or arguments] were heard. It's fairly expensive to stay and to eat, but you just do so, because you have the joy of being there overnite.

The village is exceptionally beautiful and picturesque, situated on a hill along a steep cobbled road down to the sea, no cars, a beautiful harbor. The hotel is in a beautiful old house and I think one of only two hotels/restaurants in the tiny village. Staff was very nice, something went wrong with my booking in their system but they arranged an even better room for me for the same price and it was huge with a large bathroom with a bath tub (the only one I had on my trip!) and big windows directly to the terrace of their bar (so it was not super quiet but the village is so small and there are no cars so it was absolutely fine). They have a restaurant and a breakfast room, food was nice (expensive but large portion).
Like everything in the area the prices are quite expensive, especially when you travel alone.

We were given a balcony, which was requested and accommodated. Early check in. Room with ensuite. Lovely bar and restaurant. Nice evening meals in the restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. Central in Clovelly. Comfy bed, excellent night sleep. Free WiFi and Smart TV. Lots to see in the area. Nice walks.
The hotel and area are beautiful. Just a suggestion. When we checked in we weren't told about the time of breakfast, WiFi, restaurant or bar service or that someone could help with our cases on check out if we left them at reception before 0930. This would have been helpful or if the visitor centre could give more help with this. If I visited again, I would bring a smaller case, as it is quite a distance down the cobbles.

Ideally located in the village. The room was comfortable but the bed was quite soft. However, we had a lovely balcony overlooking the famous cobbled street. The breakfast was great and the evening meals were limited but excellent.
The room was quite dark as the lights were very dim We would recommend taking very light luggage and also need to be fairly fit to go up and down the cobbled streets in comfortable shoes
