We loved the location - amazing. Straight on the beach. I like the whole sustainable rustic boho style. In genetal the whole town was not too touristy and very calm. Loved the breakfast and food - top quality. Staff is very nice as well. They have parking spots available for guests nearby. Some rooms have small pools available to refresh. We liked it overall and truly believe that it was our the best choice in the area - we even extended our stay here.

Some small things would need some fixing, e.g. shower wall leaks. But those are not the big issues, which does not really matter, because everything else is very nice. We had some electricity and water supply issues during the stay, which created some uncomfortabilities, but that was solved very fast.

The design of the hotel is so beautiful and natural feeling. We felt very cozy and safe. You are right on the beach and our room had a cute little plunge pool, although it took some effort getting in and out of it. The breeze in El Cuyo is soothing and wonderful and the waves are lovely. Breakfasts were great, with delicious fruit water. Staff is lovely. They have room/beach service for drinks or food.

Adding a step to get into the plunge pool would help. We would also have appreciated having a broom in the room to sweep the sand. We asked for a broom a few times from the staff. They are happy to clean your room however, and help you with anything you need.

Charming beach cabins right next to the beach. The property has a small restaurant that serves breakfast, dinner, and drinks. There is a beach lounge area between the cabins and the beach proper, and you simply walk out the back to get to the beach. Great for the beach.

We had a breach view cabin which was great. Most do not. Since the common sun chair / lounge area is between the cabins and the beach, we had people always right in front of our cabin. All in all not a problem, but worth noting the lack of privacy. Can help to speak Spanish - we had trouble as English and Italian speakers with very basic Spanish. (Fellow guests were kind enough to translate.)

This place has a pleasant and happy vibe. The owner is always around. The staff are very pleasant and courteous. The hotel is RIGHT on the beach. The rooms are fine. We stayed in the upstairs room across from the restaurant and appreciated the little balcony! We had some drinks in the bar and enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere. We were pleasantly surprised by the breakfast. Guests can order from the menu and there are several choices (pancakes, eggs, etc.). The portions are small, but it was adequate and you can always visit the El Cuyo restaurants for a brunch later on. All in all, this is a great place for a night or two.

There are a lot of rooms crammed into a tight space. It feels a bit tight at times.

The breakfast and in general the restaurant was excellent, the Gulf was clean calm and beautiful the beach was practically empty and tranquil and it was fun watching kite surfers.

The room could be better if there was a light between the beds perhaps a refrigerator and more towels and a foot sand washer at entrance. The ride from Cancun was further than expected.

Nice small town, friendly staff always smiling. Hotel was okay ,room 1 very basic, AC works but is not cooling . Good breakfast. Pescaderia Doña Martha el mejor lugar para comer pescados y mariscos por muy buen precio.We definitely recommend.

the room #1 is below the restaurant and you can hear the customer or workers talking all the time. sitting on the beach is relaxing but at the same time is challenging because of the mosquitos and ants.

Amazing location, food and of course people. Honestly, we are happy to get here instead of busy party all the time cancun and it’s areas. For us, this was the Mexico we wanted to see and experience. To speak spanish - very big plus, however, not all staff, but some spoke perfect english.

Small fixes needed, e.g. Shower head or shower glass leaking. But it is minor, considering what you get for such price around.

Location is perfect! You wake up literally steps away from the beautiful Cuyo beach. Our room was well-kept and comfortable... quite rustic but it worked due to the rustic nature of the location. Hammocks by the beach were clean, breakfast included was yummy and it was quiet at night. Perfect to rest and disconnect. Wi-Fi was so-so but we didn't expect any different!

It is quite expensive for what you get. No beach towels available (there are white towels in the room but we didn't want to bring those to the beach). Bed wasn't the best and although everyone was polite, it seems a bit short-staffed. There's no "check-in" and "check-out" process... which can be a bit confusing.

Beachfront as advertised. Room was large and comfortable. Balcony had a hammock. Restaurant on site was reasonable price, and honestly some of the better food in El Cuyo. The Restaurant staff was very friendly.

Bed was not very comfortable. Linens were pretty ratty, Think Motel 6. The sliding door to the balcony didn't fully close, so it didn't feel very secure. While this doesn't seem to be limited to Casa Mate, the beaches were not cleaned of seaweed and it stank very badly, like public waste plant bad acrid and stung your nose. I was better when the sun went down, and the wind picked up a little, but if hotels in the area could each chip in a little to have a crew clean up the beaches each morning it would be WAY better.

El Cuyo is a remote village, perfect to relax, with few activities available, but kite surfing. When we were there, it was extremely windy particularly in the afternoon, but we still enjoyed walking on the beach and swimming in the morning. Nearby tours of the salt lakes and las Coloradas are well worth doing. The village does not have many shops or attractions, but locals will all be most helpful and welcoming. Sunsets from the pier are epic.
