Unassuming from the outside this hotel was a fantastic place to stay. Highlights of our stop here were the set meal for dinner and breakfast, both of which gave us a real taste of Japan we wouldn't have otherwise seen. Traditional tatami matting, yukata to wear and adhering to Japanese customs gave the hotel a very different feel to our modern hotel rooms elsewhere. The rooms were large and our beds were made up seamlessly. They even accepted our luggage early so that we could go and explore before check in. We only used the private onsen which was a lovely space but the public onsen was also available.

Like others have said, the hotel is up a hill from the station but it's a mountainous region so either hop on the cable car or power on up. We didn't realise there was a very small charge for the onsen but it really wasn't worth quibbling over a few yen.

The included meals for breakfast and dinner were amazing!! I got to try so many things I never would have before, they serve you an entire course menu for that day. The onsen also was fantastic, they have both male and female indoor onsen and a private indoor onsen we used as well for no additional charge. There were other onsen available too! Also, when checking out they offered to drive us to Gora station for free, which was much appreciated. It sounds like they're willing to come drive to pick you up from the station to check in too!

The staff didn't speak a whole lot of English, which was fine for me because I can get by with Japanese, but might make it harder for English speakers to make special requests.

The room was lovely, and could’ve easily been shared by 4 if needed. The traditional meals were divine and some of the best food I had, if you want to use the baths I recommend the ones in the separate house as the ones in the main building are a little small

It’s was a little expensive, but I was there during late march so at another time of year the price might be a little more reasonable. Although Hakone is accessible by public transport, there are multiple different types that you will need to use to get from accommodation to the local train line (and they all rely on separate tickets or day passes)

Best breaky and dinner I had in my 16 days first visit to Japan varying from 8 to 14 small plates to taste. proximity to cable car and japanese room experience. had a high table with regular chair for breaky and dinner.. can't take floor eating, sleeping and japanese box table with no room for long legs ... this was the tough part for North American not used to this flexibility!

mattress really not comfy on the floor. Had better futon in other places in Japan.

Location was fairly easy to reach by public transportation and a little bit of walking. We got a separate house for a family of five, slept on mattresses on the floor in the same room. Spacious.

The mattresses were not very comfortable, but I guess it depends on what have you gotten used to. I've had more uncomfortable beds in some hotels in Europe too. Dinner and breakfast are very fine, traditional japanese meals and pickier people might find it difficult to find much for their liking. Price was somewhat higher than for another onsen we stayed at Hakone

Wonderful meals, old fashion ryokan, has parking, has plenty of space to sleep and rooms are big. Staff can speak English. Check in process was simple and quick. Has elevator for seniors. Has free private bath.

Futons were a little uncomfy. The old school ryokan feel does mean the building is old. Location is not bad, hakone is a little hard to get to.

Staffs are very nice and very helpful. Room is a bit old but facilities are good. Onsen places are very good but need to pay additional 150 yen/person.

Room is a bit old and location is far from the city. If you like some place quiet, here is good.

All staff members were friendly, and the facility was pretty well-equipped and accessible! A staff member even picked us up by car at the station when we arrived late. I’m very thankful for their hospitality...! The hotel was pretty spacious and super comfortable to stay. And the Onsen was a gem!! We had an amazing time there!

None! :)

Very traditional Japanese. Rooms were rather large, but old. It was good for sightseeing if you have a car.

Outside ofuro was under construction. Family ofuro was too small. Sink in the room very old. Time allocation for dinner and breakfast very inflexible. Dinner was between 6pm and 8pm. Exactly at 8pm we got kicked out.
