Everything! Location was amazing, accommodation and facilities spot on, a warm mountain cabin feel pervaded with the bar/restaurant options an absolute bonus. Would definitely come back.
Nothing other than the flying visit nature of our stay meaning we arrived in the dark and left in the dark, with most of the in between time spent battling Scafell Pike, so couldn't fully soak up the hostel's stunning location - but that's on us.

Brilliant atmosphere and super comfortable! Such a cosy environment to be in after a week of Wild camping in the Mountains. Excellent staff members. They're all so welcoming and incredibly helpful. So much knowledge of the local area too! This Hostel has a drying room which was absolutely fantastic for us, we could get all of our kit dry before heading off again the next day! They also have a great kitchen that served delicious breakfast, lunch and dinners! A Games room and a bar!!! What more could you ask for?
The only thing I didnt like was that our room was freeeezing apon entry but it was no bother for us at all to turn the radiator on! :)

It's always a good experience staying here from the warm welcome to the real fire. The staff always going that extra mile, good food and a great vibe. It is excellent value for money, particularly mid-week and is our favourite among many great hostels.
The access road to the hostel from the main road has serious pot holes now and is too narrow without enough passing spaces. Really not acceptable and needs addressing.

Everything is great, location is stunning, room is nice, people are very nice, breakfast is decent. It is nice to sit in the hall, drink tea or beer and plan your day. Kitchen is alright, the hostel has labeled food boxes, fridges, sharp knives, stoves (which are a bit hard to use for stupid people like myself).
The location is in the middle of nowhere, which is not helpful if you're trying to buy groceries for the breakfast or dinner. Or if you've missed the dinner hours in the hostel and looking for other places to eat. The showers have no soup or shampoo.

Set in one of the most tranquil locations you can imagine, next to the river Derwent. YHA Borrowdale is just right to unwind and a great base for walking, hiking, bike or motorbike riding. The staff were welcoming, attentive, helpful and informative. The facilties are great, I travelled on a motorbike and after a cold wet and demanding journey. I headed straight for the dry room to leave my kit so it would be refy for the next day. Directly after I headed for my room and had a great shower, lovely hot water. That done, the well stocked bar and lounge with its roaring fire was next on the list. Where I sat down to plan the next days activities using a very handy WiFi. After a very welcome and delicious cheese, leek and broccoli pie I headed back to my room overlooking the river whose babbling was the only sound to be heard at night. After a great night's rest I had breakfast and off for a walk asking the river to rhe Honister Pass and then up a steep path to Green and Grate Gables. Such stunning views. It was all so wonderful I stayed an extra night. Thanks to the staff for an enjoyable and peaceful stay.

Great little hostel. Does what it says on the tin.
Only complaint is that they need to put a couple of signs up to help guide visitors. I drove past the lane initially - it is pitch pitch black. When i did go down the lane there is a bridge that does not look fit for a car and then just a pitch black abyss beyond it. That is the right way but you have to take quite a leap of faith trying to drive it if you don't know for sure.

Little 2 bed room had a sink in it which was nice. Duvet and pillow were great and comfy. Great facilities at the common areas, bar, dining room, self catering kitchen and games room :)
I found the mattress thin, with the (wooden/metal) support grid underneath making it uncomfortable unfortunately.

beautiful location with pretty view. clean. we had 2 bunk beds for 2 people in private room which gave us good space. clean showers. nice communal areas. ok food especially pizzas. we were doing the coast to cast walk and this is on route.
the bedroom was too hot and we could not open window very far dur to safety locks. we did not nèed duvets as too hot. it was average temperature outside so ridiculous so hot. this problem seems to happen in alot of yha hostels. its just not fair to insist in safety catch on window when only adults staying in it

The location is great. The showers were poor. the room was small and in need of deeper cleaning and refurbishment, but was as expected. YHA are great, but they have become expensive for the quality of the accommodation.
General living accommodation could be better in terms of showers/comfort.

Very good location. Staff is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not sure how busy are showers and toilets during the season (I stayed in October) as there are only 3 cabins (?). Also, parking was almost full, so I'm not sure how does it look like during busy period. But place is worth staying!!!
