There is a beautiful view from the cottage. Nice restaurant/pub, nice food. The spotless cottage I was impressed with the cleaning standard.

We stayed in one of the little cottages. For 3 adults it was not enough for a couple it would be perfect. There was not enough space in the living room to have a meal together. My son stayed in the living room, there was a sofa-bed but to use the toilet he needed to walk to our bedroom because it was an ensuite...we didn't like that.

A beautiful rustic country pub full of charm and history, with very welcoming and friendly staff. My room / cabin at the back of the property was tastefully renovated and consistent with the era of the time. It was spotlessly clean, large in size (bedroom, kitchenette and family room), great wifi and had a magnificent view of the rolling hills and valley which you woke to. If you're looking for a country retreat for the weekend, or just an overnight stay away from the city, I would happy recommend this charming pub.

Nothing at all.

Loved the history and furniture/furnishings and FOOD. Great service from really pleasant management and staff and ‘family’! Stunning location - quite isolated but we loved. We understand is new management team and wish them all the best with running this historic pub.

Strong sickly air freshener smell in our room that we couldn’t identify. Had to have windows wide open. Will contact the pub to ask about it as was very strong and very odd. The shower in the Stag room is very poor. Already had read some reviews so were ‘prepared’ for the shower …

Excellent breakfast, two friends joined me for dinner and that was just as good. Strange room with no TV in the bedroom part and two small bathrooms. Very comfortable beds. Very friendly landlady and chef. Good draught beer.

Completely crazy lack of hooks or towel rails. Both bathrooms need at least two hooks and the main rooms also. I would recommend the "Command"adhesive hooks which can also be removed without leaving unsightly holes.

Beautiful country inn. The bungalow was perfect. Comfortable and fully functional with everything needed in a self catering unit. Plus a lovely enclosed patio with far reaching views that would be great to sit out on in warmer weather. We parked right next to the bungalow and were a few steps away from the very popular inn that offered cozy friendly ambience with roaring log burner and a delicious looking menu. The location is idyllic and a few minutes drive into Wirksworth, Cromford and Matlock bath just beyond. Chris introduced himself and couldn’t do enough to ensure our stay was comfortable. We will definitely be back.

Nothing. We couldn’t fault it !

Food was excellent - evening meal and breakfast were both beautiful Staff were very helpful Bedroom felt newly decorated and was really clean Bed was very comfy Nice quiet location Beautiful views

Our room was called a superior king room but there was not much room between the end of the bed and the wall so it felt like a bit of a squeeze The extractor fan from the hotel kitchen and in our bathroom was quite noisy, although did stop eventually The smell of the air freshners in our room and the corridors was quite strong - not a problem for us but could be if somebody was sensitive

We had two rooms, on in the main hotel and one cottage which was dog friendly. The hotel room was a little on the small side but very nice, the self catering cottage was perfect for two of us and our dog. The food was exceptional and the staff were very helpful and friendly, we will definitely stay there again.

We couldn't get the tv in our room to work but as we were only staying there one night it didn't really matter.

The location was lovely, the room cosy with heating, the bar locals were friendly, advising things to do. A warm , welcoming place to stay.

The bedroom descriptions each say a private bathroom with a shower but do not state if there’s a bath. Appears a bath is only in the superior room & the cottages. Just for your reference when booking if you’re a walker who craves a bath afterwards!

Lovely 17th Century Inn on the edge of Wirksworth. The rooms were clean and tastefully decorated with comfortable beds. The food was delicious with good variety of cooked breakfasts and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We had an issue in our room with the toilet flush it broke during the first night and couldn’t be fixed as we were in the suite we could use the 2nd toilet . The shower in the suite didn’t work properly either as it just ran very hot water so we used one shower for the four of us which was annoying.
