My family and I stayed at multiple quality hotels throughout Japan but Okcs Hakone Villa was by far the best accommodation. Although it is on the pricer side, it was worth every dollar. We took a taxi to the villa where we were met at the entrance and driven to our villa. Our host checked us in and showed us how everything in the room worked. Anytime we had a question or needed something we could call the front and they would immediately come and assist us. The dinner was incredible and very filling. The private onsen was spacious and could easily fit 4 people. They can also adjust the temperature for you. Retreat is the perfect word for this place as it was amazingly serene and peaceful. A perfect way to end our trip. I would like to especially thank Yamaguchi-san who supported us throughout the stay. She spoke English and provided the top care!! I wish that one day we can go back. Check out this inside look at our stay on my youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIrs332vNuQ

Everything was perfect.

The friendly and helpful staff - Kira san who attended to us during our Keiseiki dinner was the most helpful and elevated our dining experience. Eager to share useful tips on how to further enjoy our stay around the area.

The stairs from the entry way / toilets down to the main bedrooms can be quite steep for older folks to navigate. The audio system isn’t as easy to tag on to. Also just be mindful that their check-in staff is only on duty till 530/6pm so you will need to time your drive there (although they will make sure to make alternatives to come find you).

The Villa #9 was large and comfortable. So nice having a private onsen, and it looks like a natural pool! The surrounding nature is beautiful and quiet

Since you are in a natural setting, you can expect to see some insects. I believe they do not use pesticides to keep it natural

The villa we booked in the retreat was really spacious and the beds were ultra comfortable. There was a joint 'shower-toilet-onsen' room, whether the water comes from the local onsen. All drinks in the room were free as well as extra drinks at the restaurant. If you needed anything, you just needed to speak to reception and they would do it for you. Since we stayed in the villa (the check-in and check-out happen there), the main reception was a bit further, but if you needed to go there the hotel staff would transfer you with the golf cart. Even though we did not order room service, we found the prices to be reasonable. But the highlight of our stay was the most amazing Kaiseki meal we ordered extra and was served at the Hyoseki restaurant, which was very close to our villa. Oh, and don't forget to order a Japanese breakfast, you are in a for a treat. At a stone's throw from the hotel, there is a very interesting Venetian Glass Museum, which I would also recommend you visit.

The retreat is up in the mountains, so be prepared to take a 40 min bus ride from Odawara station (but found the scenery delightful)

The property is amazing, amenities are new and not dated at all. Such a peaceful location, I would recommend hiring a car for this property as it’s approx 10km outside of Hakone town, but I believe there is a bus available. The staff were so helpful, we arrived by car and needed to organise a taxi for our friends and Ayumi (probably wrong spelling) tried so hard and got us a taxi as we didn’t realise how hard it is to organise so late on a Sunday. She was a superstar! Thinking about booking another trip to Hakone from Australia just to stay at this place again

Nothing, everything was amazing. Wish I booked 2 nights instead of 1 night

Private villa with large outdoor onsen, wood burning fireplace, grand piano, bluetooth sound system (inside), unique twists on typical western breakfast, and immediate cart pickup to the on site restaurant and café when needed. They can control the temperature of the onsen remotely with a call to the desk. No TVs so there are no distractions, but there is wifi for streaming music. The bus from Hakone-Yumoto or Odawara stations drops you right at the hotel. The front desk will pick you up from the bus stop. Do not recommend walking the long way through the property, I would have gotten lost. A bit far from all the restaurants in the area, but you don't book a private villa to go into town. Highly recommend for the winter months if booking a villa. You will not find a better private experience. Truly amazing and unforgettable if you want to splurge.

The price is high, though comparable to others in the area. Regarding some other reviews of "poor shower water pressure". When the onsen auto fills after leaving it pulls from the same water as the villa. Water pressure will be low for ~10 minutes resulting in low shower pressure, not a big deal.

Room: The rooms were very clean. The heating and A/C were responsive in each room. The fridges were stocked with complementary drinks (Pocari Sweat, Coke, Coke Zero, Chilled Green Tea, Bottles of Beer). The living room’s Bluetooth speaker was high quality. Bathroom: The bathroom toilet had auto-open/close lid feature, auto-clean, auto-flush, and bidet. The bathroom also came with a Dyson hair dryer, facial gel, facial cleanser. Hospitality: the workers spoke different languages (English, Chinese, Japanese), were quick to respond to our calls to reception, drove us around the property in a buggy upon request, and thoroughly explained the features of the property and each of the dishes for our in-room dining. Everyone was kind, professional, and accommodating. Food: the in-room Japanese breakfast & Japanese dinner tasted amazing. We opted for in-room dining and scheduled a time for them to bring the meal over to our room. Examples of dishes we ate: Lobster, Wagyu Beef shabu shabu, nigiri, puffer fish sashimi. Private Onsen: the open air onsen had the perfect temperature and auto-filled with water depending on the water level. It looked out to the forest and mountain.

A beautiful overnight stay in the hills, everything was so clean and comfortable. We wish we could have stayed an extra night to fully enjoy the facilities. Food at the Japanese restaurant was exceptional as an experience; we didn’t get to try the Woodside dining but it also looked stunning. The cafe was lovely. Our room (3) was perfect, with lovely views and the most wonderful Onsen. Travel around the area is easy on the buses, but price mounts up if you use the cable car and Ropeway (definitely do, just for the view of Mount Fuji), we used the Siurca card because we wanted to come by bullet train, but the Hanone Freepass makes it easier and quicker, and cheaper if we had included a boat ride

We had Villa 10 and absolutely adored it! It was such a welcome retreat after our stay in Tokyo. It was so nice to do check-in in the villa, have all the features explained and pick the colors of our gift socks. The minimalist Japandi style of the villa really appealed to us and we felt so comfy and cozy enjoying our private onsen, fireplace, yoga mats, forest views, etc. So glad we had a dinner and breakfast in the Woodside restaurant...both were superb! Loved the lounge where you could enjoy complimentary tea or coffee all day long. The hotel's patisserie was also excellent.

We arrived via the Hakone bus a couple of hours before the 3 p.m. check in time and were a bit confused when we got to the entrance of the property. There was no one at the little entrance building and the hotel was not visible. My son walked up the road to see whether we could make it to the hotel with our luggage. About the time he came back from scouting, a staff person came by in a golf cart to shuttle us up to the hotel. I don't think we were informed that there was shuttle available, so it would be good to let people know what to expect when they arrive...especially if they are getting off the bus.

The setting of the villas in the middle of a forest was tranquil and a refreshing change as we had just come from Tokyo. The two bedroom villa we stayed in was beautifully designed to be both stylish and welcoming. We particularly loved the private consent bath on the balcony. The staff were all very helpful and polite and there were so many extra little touches such as free hot drinks in the cafe. One of the highlights was our dinner at the formal Japanese restaurant. The food was so amazingly presented with seasonal ingredients. Our kids loved their childrens' meals which still included sashimi, miso and wagyu beef.

It was hard to get there on public transport. Would have been nice to be offered a transfer service.
