Very nice and calm motel. We could not here the noise of the cars. Enough parking spaces. The room was very comfy. The city center was a 15min walk.

It is just a shame that the kitchenette did not have a small stove for cooking.

Only very minor negative was that the alarm clock provided went off in middle of night - it would be good if housekeeping could check that previous guests hadn’t reset alarm, though we should have checked…..

This was our second stay in Christchurch during our holiday and it turned out to be so much better than the first place. Beautifully presented room with heaps of space and everything that you could need. The staff were extremely helpful and the location was great, just a 10 minute walk in to the centre of the City. 10 out of 10.

Great location, quiet, clean and spacious studio with a comfy bed. Cleaning staff were lovely.

Our welcome on arrival was less than impressive. Arrived at the advertised check in time of 12 only to be told we were early and the room would not be ready until 1.30. No apology, in fact we felt we were an imposition. We had paid in advance which again seemed to be a problem of our making. I had to show my emailed receipt before I was believed. Such a pity as this was our last stop in New Zealand after a month of travelling and our first less than positive experience.

Easy walking distance to City Centre

There was an option to select a Double or Two Singles on Booking.com. After confirming the booking, I received a message referring to the bed options as a 'special request'. This was not a 'special request', I would not have made the booking had I known there was a possibility that the request might not have been fulfilled. Fortunately, the request was met. Going forward, I think I will book direct with the venue when needing two single beds.

The room exceeded our expectations because it wasn't just a room...it was almost a whole apartment. There was a kitchenette, a small living and dining area, and the bathroom was huge. The facilities were modern, clean and functioning. The best part was the woman and man working the front desk at reception. They were very helpful and took the time to get to know us. Lovely people!

This isn't a big deal: we arrived and instead of having 2 twin beds we had one large king size bed. My friend and I separated the beds and just remade them to meet our needs. All was just fine. The next day the staff took care of the rest. Again, this is no big deal as we just rolled with it.

Upon checking in, I met one of the lovely and helpful owners who not only pointed out some great places to visit and get food etc, but also the best way to access the bus service to get to our reason for visiting Christchurch, which was a concert, and save us the hassle of trying to find a park. The room itself was very clean, tidy, and comfortable. Compact but well appointed with everything you could need for a short stay, including the ability to cook small meals. The bathroom, again, was on the smaller side but well stocked, the shower was great with decent pressure, and the towels were large and soft. The mattresses on the beds were on the firmer side, with quality linen, pillows, and additional blankets available. Situated near a reasonably busy street, road noise wasn't actually much of an issue except maybe a little in the morning, but only as I had the windows open because of the heat (a large fan was also already in the room in anticipation of the heat). Off-street parking was handy with one park available per room. The location of the motel was fantastic, with it being maybe a 10 minute walk into the city centre with restaurants and a mini mart even closer along the same route. Overall, I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality motel at a very reasonable rate.

This is just my personal preference and not a judgement of the facilities, but I would get a room on the ground floor should I visit again. The flight of stairs up to the room, then a flight up to the bedroom in the room, was a bit much. I'm not as young as I used to be, I've realised.

Comfortable big bed. Lovely and quiet. Really appreciative that we could have our small dog stay the night too. We stayed there 14 years ago and were stoked to coincidentally stay in the same room this time. Heating was inadequate for the time of year. Put heater on when we went out at 2.30pm and when we got back at 7pm it wasn't warm enough despite the high temperature we put it on. Bathroom heater really smelly when on as if it is burning dust so had to turn it off straight away.

The shower drain isn't fixed in place so the cap slid around the shower. The shower head is fixed to the wall and is great for short people but terrible for us who are tall.

The Colombo in the City is a modern motel with all the amenities one would expect from a good overnight stay accommodation. Simple and somewhat understated, the motel is perfect for a quick one or two night stay just on the edge of the centre of the city. The only other point to make was the Booking.com info material does not make it very clear this is a motel, not a hotel. We recommend this be clarified on the website.

We stayed one a very warm night and struggled to stay comfortable and get much sleep due to this outside factor. This was not in any way the motel’s fault, it was just that time of the year. Air conditioning might have helped.

The studio was spacious, clean and fully equipped. This was possibly the best place we've stayed in. The bed was large and very comfortable. The studio was an excellent size for us and everything we needed was there. It was also very private and quiet. Thank you.
