The Coachman's Quarters is a gorgeous place to stay. Our room was clean and spacious, the bed was big and comfy, the tea tray was well stocked, and we could see an eagle and a vulture (in their aviaries) from our bedroom window. If you like running there is a parkrun at Muncaster Castle every Saturday at 9am and it goes right past the Coachman's Quarters! We are big parkrun fans so this was a massive plus for us! It's fantastic that you get free entry wristbands in the room so you can visit the stunning gardens and the hawl and owl centre during your trip. We saw the Sky Hawks flying display which was brilliant!

The only improvement I could suggest would be to send an email a day or two before to say where the key collection will be for checking in after the reception desk has closed. We figured it out easily when we arrived, but an email beforehand would have saved us worrying about it on the way over.

The space we had in the coachman’s quarters. Ideal for a family! It was very clean, the beds were incredibly comfy, staff were super friendly & kind . The grounds are just stunning , it took our breath away to be honest . The fact you’re at such a historical building is worth every penny . We aren’t a well off family and this was a ‘treat ‘ for us so £179 was a stretch for us but it was worth it and we would pay this again . We very much enjoyed our stay at Muncaster ! We would happily visit again . The owl show is incredible . It was very wet but we absolutely loved the care and consideration to the birds . The show was cut short for the birds welfare . 5*s to Muncaster staff for this . The care you show your animals is incredible . Not enough places do this to the level you do . Thank you Muncaster . We hope to visit again soon .

Staff driving really fast into the carpark which is where our door opened onto , we have dogs & 3 young children & wish the staff driving to work were a little less in a rush. We couldn’t see the oncoming cars from room 9. Also, please consider more coffee other than Decaff ! We were gutted to not have a ‘real coffee’ first thing. It was very wet in the morning for the owl display - we would have loved to have had the opportunity to come back and explore the gardens without having to pay again. We’re staying locally but have to pay to enter the gardens again.

Having access to community dining, laundry and lounge was convenient and enjoyable. While the location of Ravenglass was a little isolated with no towns of note and absence of amenities the actual Muncaster Castle made up for it. The gardens were an absolute delight - even in the rain with very damp ground. It was one of the very few countryside or garden areas we heard birdlife. The bird shows were fabulous presented by friendly and knowledgeable staff.

I had assumed Ravenglass was close to the lakes district and so was disappointed with the distance to anywhere else of note. The castle grounds made up for that.

Incredible location in castle grounds. Loads to do. Free access to beautiful grounds, walks and bird show events. Amazing views down Esk Valley towards lakeland peaks, Room lovely and very comfortable. Access to shared kitchen, dining room and lounge if required. Parking outside room. Easy access to site off main road. Cafes on site, great for breakfast or lunch. Castle had own restaurant in village which was fabulous too, And Muncaster Castle has its own parkrun also. What a bonus. So much to do and see and a fantastic base for perhaps the most crowd-free corner of the Lake District.

It was all superb.

The staff were friendly and very welcoming from the start. Nothing was too much trouble. The castle and its grounds, still a family home, are a well preserved yet non commercial example of english history through the ages. The nicest touch were photos of the current family dotted around the castle showing contemporary and relatable life in an otherwise opulent setting. The hawk, owl and vulture show highlighted the importance of these beautiful birds. The show was very good indeed. The residence we stayed in was very comfortable, clean and a unique chance to stay within castle grounds. Overall a lovely stay.

In the castle grounds so had access to facilities including beautiful scenery, walks and an excellent bird of prey show - with a range of owls flown close to the audience. Were there for the Parkrun which was a good course through the grounds, but also walked across country to Ravenglass which was less than 2 miles on mostly good paths (shorter by road). Checkout was 10:30 but able to stay on throughout the day, leaving our car in the car park.

Only one chair in the bedroom - though there was a separate shared lounge (and kitchen) that we didn’t use.

We've stayed a couple of times before so knew what to expect from the accommodation. This time we enjoyed the Christmas event including the craft stalls, singing, meeting Santa and best of all the amazing afternoon tea. What an honour to eat delicious food in such an amazing room. We enjoyed walking around after dark seeing the castle lit up red and the huge Christmas tree. We love staying here and find the accommodation so comfortable and relaxing.

All good.

We booked the coachman quarters and stayed in room 1. This room was well equipped for the less able bodied although we are not. It was exceptionally spacious and had everything we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay

We went to the lounge and couldn't get the TV to work. We could have rang for help easily enough but it wasn't a problem we just went back to our room and watched our own. The kitchen was left untidy by other guests.

My room in the Coachman’s Quarters was in the spectacular setting of the grounds of Muncaster Castle. The views were wonderful and I had access to the grounds after the castle had closed to the general public. The staff at the Coachman’s Quarters were fantastic and incredibly helpful. I contacted them in advance of my visit to request a walk-in shower and they responded almost immediately, telling me that I would have the requested shower and giving me some more information on accessibility. When I arrived early, the staff also looked after my luggage until check-in time.

The room was spotlessly clean but the furnishings were a little tired and, in a couple of places, worn. Unfortunately, the wi-fi in the room was poor and this was a particular problem because Muncaster Castle is in an area of poor mobile reception. Also, I was unable to get the heating to work in the room and it became very cold later in the evening. It is for this reason that I have given the Coachman’s Quarters a less than perfect score.

This was a really cool place— the castle is stunning. I wish we’d had more time to look around, but we only stayed one night. The rooms are pretty basic, but very comfortable— good bed, warm shower, and lots of space. Nice little touches, too— they left little biscuits for us, coffee, etc. The coolest part was this: when we booked this room 3 months ago, we accidentally were given a rate that was MUCH lower than normal— literally £100 cheaper than normal. I contacted the property, and sure enough, it was a mistake on their part. I would’ve fully understood if they didn’t want to give it to me for the mistake price, since I had months to find another place. But they honored the price, even though it cost them a hundred pounds. I was impressed. Just nice people. :-)
