With the exception of a few niggles the visit was smashing. Location, food, decor all lovely. I would recommend and re visit.

Drafty single glazed sash windows at the ground floor. You could hear all traffic and people going by. The shower was very good but missing a piece off the control head. Whilst the bathroom was spotless it would benefit from the use of product like mould and mildew around the shower occasionally to eliminate the spots of black mould. However these are observations and not complaints.

First impressions were impressive & knew that we were onto a winner if the inside was going to be as well kept as the outside. The Pennington did not disappoint. From the moment we stepped in the building to the moment we stepped out every aspect was first class. We were greeted by a lovely friendly lady who answered any questions we had. Onto the room the staircase up to it was beautiful old polished wood & all around the attention to detail & cleanliness was just amazing. The room was beautiful. Once again immaculate, the first aspect which grabs you is the bed. You hope it’s as comfortable as it looks & it does not disappoint. Everywhere is spotless & every amenity you would need & wish for is covered. We were in the restaurant in the evening & the food was just divine. The waiting staff were a range of ages & all most certainly knew how to deliver customer service. Breakfast was the same. It all just ran like clockwork.

Breakfast was excellent, staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. We also ate on the evening and had additional family members join us. The food was exceptional. We pre ordered the food several days before arriving, Helen contacted me via email and was so helpful and polite. The food and service was brilliant.

We stayed in the family room and the views were amazing looking out over the estuary. The room was clean and spacious the only thing I would say is that it could do with a little decorating. However it certainly wouldn't put me off from staying again. My parents stayed in a different room and it was very nice, clean and well presented.

This was a repeat visit and was lucky to be able to book the ground floor room with easy access - super wetroom which is ideal as although not 'disabled' my mobility is compromised. The staff are lovely here, welcoming and friendly. The bed is comfortable. Internet access was 'iffy' on this visit which has not been the case on previous occasions - a nuisance but not a major issue.

Some minor restaurant comments would be that the wine list is rather unimaginative and the menu choices have on previous visits shown more variety. Hot breakfast course not really served hot enough (porridge, avocado and poached egg on toast) - these were not major issues they could easily be rectified with just a bit more attention to training of younger staff.

We enjoyed the location of the hotel right on the water front. The size of the room was great and the shower was excellent. Breakfast was fantastic absolutely above our expectations. The evening meal in the restaurant was very enjoyable and the food was great quality and cooked to perfection we would definitely recommend eating here. The bar area was comfortable. There was also an outside seating area.

The bed was a little short both me and my partners feet hung over the bottom of the bed however the width of the bed was great. The room smelt of what we could only describe was wet dog l, which was a little overpowering to start with but thankfully our room door could be left open to try and air the smell.

Location - sunset views over the estuary out of the front facing windows were stunning. Staff - super obliging. I answered your question above as to whether the hotel fulfilled our bed type preference in the affirmative but they reported that they had never received our bed type preference from Booking.com and were only able to accommodate our request on our arrival by offering us a third (family) room at no extra charge. Really exceptionally obliging of them. Food good. Dining room and bar pleasant. Clean and comfortable.

Nothing at all not to like - oh, maybe the sausages at breakfast - more chipolata than Cumbian but that's nit picking!

The hotel was very comfortable, the food was very good, and the staff was exceptional. The cooked breakfast was perfect. It was about quality and proportions rather than quantity as is often the only criteria. The dinners were imaginative and tasty and my allergies were dealt with without fuss or making me feel that there were items I could not have. They were simply adjusted. Often one does not get that at top rank restaurants. The bar and serving staff were among the best I've come across. They were polite, friendly and very efficient and really seemed to care that we were enjoying ourselves.

Excellent hotel with excellent location located at the sea side and only 30 mins drive from Scafell Pike! extremely clean & comfortable . Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the friendly reception staff Gillian and other team members! Gillian makes our trip more interesting with her advices & tips about the routes and mountain, cafes, restaurants are within walking distance. Would definetely recommend this hotel to everybody! It's a true sample of excellent hospitality and it’s dog friendly!. Thank you again Gillian for going just that little step extra for the guests!!!

Very comfortable hotel with friendly and cheerful staff. The general decoration was in good order and pleasant, the bar area was very comfortable and welcoming. The food was delicious, menu varied and tempting and the portions generous. Really enjoyed the breakfast. Our suite had a nice view of the bay and the street below, quiet at night, the bathroom was huge with an excellent shower, bed very comfortable.

The suite was a little chilly in the evening, heating only seemed to work in the early morning, otherwise we really enjoyed our stay there.

An excellent location with very friendly, welcoming and polite staff. The rooms were very comfortable. The food was excellent is both quality and quantity but above all it was hot. We had a small problem with our bill but this was sorted out very quickly in a very efficient way.

The car park was a bit small with no dedicated disabled spaces which could have created a problem with opening/closing of the door. A handrail on the two sets of stairs when going to room 2 would be very helpful.
