Breakfast was outstanding though my husband would've liked a little more of the fried toast!!!

My hair is shoulder length and although a hairdryer was provided, I felt this was a little out of date and awkward to style my hair due to the lack of power and position in the room. Most.hotels and B&B'S now provided plug in hairdryers. Possibly something to discuss and implement.

Ascot house is a lovely old building. The breakfast was very good and we liked being able to walk into the centre whilst leaving our car in their car park. Great shower too..

The stairs up to our room in the attic were very steep and narrow and difficult to negotiate with luggage. Personally, I didn't like the metal bars at the head of the bed as this made it impossible to sit up in bed comfortably.

We stayed from 31st December to 2nd Jan 2025 in Room 21 on the top floor and the room was really nice, with Velux windows, and on a clear night/morning you can look right up at the stars. The room / hotel was beautiful, and spotless. Great location as its about a 20 minute walk into the city centre, so its really quiet and peaceful. Car park behind the hotel also which is an added bonus. Breakfast was full English for us and was plentiful, kept us going well into the afternoon. Everybody who is there working are so friendly, its just a beautiful place to stay, and we have rebooked for this coming new years eve again. The only photo I have is from looing out of the window at the stars.

Having to come home. :( There is nothing there to dislike, the pictures and reviews really sell it and by deciding to rebook before we left means we really did enjoy it.

We loved our 2 night stay in Room 11. Good sized double room, comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. The en suite is great with a power shower. Fantastic breakfast with lots of options. Ascot house is full of character, much more interesting than a bland hotel room. A 15 minute walk takes you into the centre which was no problem. If we are ever back in York there is only one place we will be staying. June is a lovely woman who took the time to talk to the guests at breakfast.

Perfect location, only a short walk into the city. The room was spacious and clean with everything we needed, including tea, coffee and hot chocolate. TV in the room offered plenty of channels, although we didn't really use it. The bathroom was exceptional with plenty of hot water, soft towels and some toiletries. Breakfast was served promptly and nothing was too much trouble. The waiting staff had one purpose, and that was to ensure every guest had everything they wanted and needed. On arrival we were greeted and provided with detailed information about the area, as well as a map that directed us into town. There are plenty of menus and local business information available. Co-op across the road should you need it and a gorgeous little bar if you fancy a drink or two before heading in for the night. The car park is small but there is no extra fee, so it was ideal for our stay. We will definitely stay again.

Loved everything about it, the house, the room, the breakfast. The whole place was spotless, and with so much character and so authentic I felt like I was living somewhere very special. The room had all comforts, and it was such a relaxing environment. And very quiet, despite it being on the ground floor. The breakfast was excellent and everyone so friendly and attentive to every guest’s needs. The location was great, easy walking distance from the city centre, but without the noise, and there was a small Coop just opposite, which was very handy to pick up some snacks one evening we were too tired to venture out again for dinner. We will certainly be back again as soon as we can.

Everything was perfect and exceeded all our expectations.

The room and bathroom met our expectations, enjoyed the four poster bed. The breakfast was excellent. For a small hotel there was a great amount of choice, both buffet and cooked. The cooked breakfast arrived piping hot and good quality ingredients. Had a big bowl of porridge one day. Spoilt for choice. Walking distance of city centre so able to avoid having to drive and pay York's expensive parking costs.

Advertised as having car parking. There was in fact only 8 spaces for 23 rooms, we were there 3 days and we never managed to get into the car park. However it wasn't a problem for us -short stay restricted street parking outside hotel and unrestricted street parking nearby. We just thought this should be made clearer, that's all.

Ascot House is situated close to town, within walking distance to restaurants and shops. The room was lovely and clean with almost all the necessities you would expect from a stay (this hasn't been the case on this trip). The doona was lovely and warm, but could have been tucked in more as it came out not long after we turned out the light. We opted to only have a continental breakfast (as we have been having hot breakfasts all on this trip, we needed a break). There was plenty of choice.

The bed was too firm. Travelling for hours in an uncomfortable car all day, the one thing you look forward to is a comfortable bed, sadly this wasn't to be.

It was a lovely clean hotel with beautiful character the breakfast was amazing and the staff were lovely. The hotel and room were perfectly in keeping with the age of the house and the bathroom was modern with a fab shower.

Nothing I didn't like really the only issue I found was the beautiful four poster bed squeaked a bit whenever I rolled over

The staff were so welcoming and friendly and gave us information of places to go and things to do. The hotel and room itself were really clean and comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic, chef and host both ensured we were happy with the food and service. All produce were fresh and locally sourced. We would highly recommend staying here to anyone looking to stay in York. Short walk in to city where we found more than enough to entertain us for 2 days/nights. Host also made a point of checking us out in person ensuring we had a good stay
