First time stay here-we had visited Lake Menteith before and loved location. Hotel overlooking the beautiful lake, picnic tables and woodburning braxiers on grassy bank. Old building with features maintained to keep the character. Room upstairs was huge with stunning views from the windows. Evening meal and breakfast excellent with a great selection of whiskies. Comfy chairs and great relaxed atmosphere generated by staff who were very friendly and attentive. Brilliant place for a relaxing ovetnight stay to recharge the senses. Pricey but well worth it. We will definitely return. Thanks to all the staff.

Nothing!

We received a warm welcome from Michelle at Reception. She made check in easy and showed us to our room. We were allocated the Menteith Suite. It must be one of the best rooms in the Hotel. There was an Anniversary card from the staff - a lovely gesture. The room is huge and the view is amazing. There is a door outside the room where there is a table and chairs and it will be lovely to sit there on a warm sunny day. The room was warm and very comfortable with a super king bed. At dinner there was a big choice on the Menu. The food was excellent- we had Scallops, trout fish cakes followed by Pheasant -highly recommended. Callum looked after us well and nothing was a bother for him. He was friendly and professional. We also enjoyed breakfast. There was a good choice and the food was great.

We wish we had booked longer!!

Great location with lovely views. Comfortable bedroom. Nice meal. Staff very pleasant. Good value dinner/bed/breakfast package.

Shower was just a dribbler, there was no power whatsoever, barely able to rinse the soap off. Breakfast was a bit chaotic, buffet wasn’t replenished. (No ham, meats, cheese, salad). Despite arriving at 9.20 (breakfast served until 10am) we were refused any croissants or pastries, as by the time we asked it was 9.55. We were told other people had eaten them all and the chef wouldn’t bake any more. No decent breads. On the other hand our cooked breakfast dish was very nice.

Views of lake from both bedroom and main bar / dining area excellent. Dinner excellent and reasonably priced. Breakfast - some elements excellent like juice, porridge, bread.

Breakfast Felt cooked breakfast slightly spicy and black pudding was dry. Heating was not on in room in main part of day, came on about 16:30. Bedroom facilities were generally a bit tired. Loose tiles on patio.

Beautiful location Hotel very cozy Food excellent

A little disappointed with choice of drinks at the bar as they unfortunately didn’t have either of our choices (3 of) so we were very limited if we wanted to purchase an alcoholic drink. The girl at the bar indicated they may have been waiting on a delivery. Unfortunately it seemed to be our choices of drink they had run out of. If you are a gin, vodka, whisky or wine drinker you would be fine as lots to choose from.

The location was why I chose it and, even on a rainy day, it was spectacular. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic. Everywhere was very clean although possibly a bit tired.

The subsidence in our bedroom added a quaint touch. The smell of bleached floors while we had our lovely breakfast was disappointing. The flavour of vinegar masking the taste of my poached eggs again was disappointing. I had phoned the hotel several days before arriving to say I had seen an offer to upgrade from bed and breakfast to dinner bed and breakfast and I was told this had been changed on our booking however we were still charged extra for dinner. The very nice receptionist did change this when I pointed it out although, again, this was disappointing. On several occasions there was a distinct lack of staff.

The food was amazing! The evening meal menu was interesting and varied, including Indian dishes alongside standards like fish and chips and non-standards like bao-bun spicy chicken (delicious), and also had some nice non-alcoholic drinks (a home-made lime drink, a very good chai), and good desserts (so good, we had the kulfi twice). The cooking was excellent. The same at breakfast - a good buffet (including a very tasty home-made granola, and a raspberry puree) with varied fresh fruit alongside the usual fare, and a really good cooked breakfast with - I have to use the word again - excellent ingredients. The stay was worth it for the food alone. Actually, they had a nice wine list too - good price ranges and descriptions. We chose a white wine from Japan, which we liked a lot. When we weren't able to finish the bottle on the first night, the staff were happy to keep it in the fridge until the next day, when we polished it off in the pub area before settling down at the restaurant. We didn't have the option of one of the 'special' rooms on the hotel's website; when the room we were first taken to felt a bit cramped, we asked if we could possibly be moved to another room, and were offered a very nice, airier room which even had a bit of a view of the lake. The staff were very kind and helpful throughout the stay.

We went for a short restorative stay following illness and had thought we might miss things like a spa etc. Actually, we didn't miss that at all. The hotel had everything we needed, and the setting itself was restorative.

Room is fun with floral wallpaper on every wall. Bed was big and very comfortable. All very clean, though the grout in the bathroom has seen better days. Dinner was excellent - can highly recommend the lake trout with summer salad. Good wine list by the glass. Bar is lovely place to relax and has an excellent selection of local craft gins. View of the lake from the bar and restaurant are fabulous (saw an osprey catch its dinner!). Staff are friendly and professional. Excellent breakfast.

Bathroom is tired and the shower is over the bath which is very slippery. You can request an anti slip mat but why can't every room just have one? Woodwork around the window in the bedroom needs attention - going rotten and needs painting. Room 9 has an excellent view of the calor gas tank and the bins! Did someone really need to be vac'ing during breakfast? And the hotel can't do anything about this but the male guest who belched and snorted up his nose through dinner was quite horrible. Did the same at breakfast plus took a video call ON SPEAKER all the way through. including walking up and down to the buffet still chatting. This sounds like it was really awful and it wasn't... but it was a surprise in a place of this calibre.

The location is beautiful, we got a warm welcome, hotel was very nicely decorated for festive period and very warm. A mulled whisky drink at the entrance was a really nice touch.

The main course at the evening meal took a little while to come, but was truly delicious. Maybe have sauces like brown sauce out at breakfast, otherwise the selection and quality were excellent.

I love the location of this property and how quiet the area is, at least during winter time. We had a wonderful time and a great sleep as the bed is extremely comfortable. The food was amazingly tasteful and very well prepared, the staff overall are very caring, smily and helpful.

The only But, comes to the room conditions. When i booked the room I booked it with views to the lake, and when we checked on check in, the room yes was facing the direction of the lake, but all we could see was a roof infront of us. Maybe don´t add the option of lake view if the lake can not be seen clearly enough from the window as it is very misleading. Also it was our annivesary and we told this when booking the room, was a bit disappointing that the staff never had a little gesture on this. I used to work in hotels for many years and when was an special ocasion we always added something to the room of a late check out free of charge. Just a suggestion for next clients maybe. It is always nice to do such things and cost nothing to the hotel.
