Comfortable large room, with a nice bathroom, and everything you need. The owners and their dog (who had a very friendly bark hello in the morning, nothing to worry about) were really welcoming, and Carolyn’s breakfasts had nice variety. I had continental breakfast as that’s what’s on weekdays, and they were a great set up for the day if you’re off out for a walk. Drymen (pronounced Drimmen) is only about 30 minutes walk away to get to a nice pub / restaurant, and the property is on the West Highland Way.

the location is stunning, surrounded by green and very quiet. close to lots of hiking and the village is 5 min drive, with pubs, bakery, supermarket. breakfast was so good, lots of choices. Rooms were comfortable and clean, lovely shower. We had homemade pizza one of the nights and it was delicious, highly recommended. host are great, lot of recommendations and tips.

we stay in the double rooms and it feels more like airbnb than a b&b. rooms are in the main house and breakfast is in their kitchen, we didn’t mind but I think is not very clear in the booking description. also there is no patio, just table outside where you park and the sun doesn’t hit the spot so to have the pizzas you need to go to the camping next door to the picnic tables is the weather permit it otherwise have it in you room, what is not idilic. also the rooms are not done everyday, we stay only 2 night so it was fine but something to have in mind if you stay longer. We still had a great time and recommend the place, just want to clarify that for the next ones.

This is a really exceptional place to stay. It has a warm and welcoming feel from the minute you arrive. Communication before arriving is great too. The surroundings, deep in the countryside and rich in nature, are beautiful. So is the house. It has a family atmosphere - note, there's a lovely friendly dog. Everything is sparkling clean, breakfast was excellent, evening home-made pizza delicious, and the company of the hosts was delightful. You go away feeling you've made a real discovery and it's a struggle to leave.

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this place.

Caroline was the perfect host, she was accommodating despite my early arrival time and made me feel welcome from the outset. The homemade pizza was delicious and just what was needed after my first day on the WHW. Having walked the way herself Caroline’s knowledge and tips were invaluable. Would highly recommend a stay at Altquhur Byre!

Nothing - it was fantastic!

A very warm welcome was received and we genuinely felt we were staying with a friend or family member. Nothing was too much trouble, with contact being made even before our arrival by the host and offering hints and tips for our stay in the area. Lovely additional touches such as home baking in rooms and home produced hand wash/shower gel.

I would never have guessed this was a converted cattle barn, and I live on a cattle farm! Beautiful room, beautiful house and home of the owners. So clean, high quality linen, very large modern economic room. Beautiful artwork throughout the home. And the breakfast was perfect! Such a lovely family, very thoughtful about the environment. I loved the home baked granola biscuits on the coffee tray. BUT the home made liquid soap harkened me back to when my parents had a small holding and I helped make our own soap.. That was horrible stuff that used to slough the skin off me... Carolyn's soap is creamy and lovely to use. I want her recipe, but too embarrassed to ask. We will definitely return, and bring more doggy treats, and maybe something for the most polite children we've ever met. Thank you for giving us a fantastic experience after so many duds recently!

No ... nothing we didn't like.

Super clean B&B and friendly family who run the place. Used as a stop over to break up our journey to the Highlands. Large shower and heated floor, and the room itself was a very generous size so we didn't feel like we were sat on top of our bags. Great location and the flapjack we got in the room was delicious.

Can't believe I'm about to write this as someone who is perpetually cold, but it got too hot in the night! It does mention this in the welcome book and recommends that you open a window, I assumed as it was winter that this wouldn't be needed but I should have listened to the advice :)

A lovely stay made all the better by the hosts, room was perfectly clean and very comfortable. Pizza and continental breakfast were both excellent and a good packed lunch provided too. Made to feel at home and welcomed as a solo traveller. The b&b is right on the west highland way as well, so no detour required!

Loved the quiet location. Carolyn and her family were very welcoming. We were a little sad that we didn't have a weekend stay as we missed out on the cooked breakfast but the porridge, yoghurt, toast and jam was lovely. The room and bathroom were warm, spacious and spotlessly clean. The view into the woodland from the room was pretty. Communication was excellent from Carolyn, she messaged us the day before our arrival to give directions. Handy tips were given regarding places to eat ( due to its location you really have to drive either into Drymen or into Balmaha to find a good place to eat ) Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room as is a large bottle of nice cold water which is so much nicer than filling your glass with water from the bathroom tap! We had freshly made pumpkin cake on our arrival too.

Not so much a dislike... but we found the bed ( although comfortable ) a little too small which made for a bit of a disturbed nights sleep..... having said this we are used to a king sized bed at home with room to stretch out !!
