We have stayed here many times over the years. The hall is set in stunning grounds with a walled garden and topiary. There are walks around the hall and it’s a short walk to the village and a great pub. The rooms are well appointed for conference and student events with tea and coffee making facilities and basic toiletries. The breakfast offering ranged from the full English buffet which was nicely cooked to cereals toast etc There is a bar with bar meals served in the evening which we have used in the past.
We were surprised to receive an email two days before our stay advising the bar and catering services were not available on the Saturday night due to a function. This we felt was very short notice as the Gates Gala must have been arranged for some time. Our room was in a quiet area and the music stopped around 11pm so we were not too bothered by noise. However had we known there was an event with reduced services we would have stayed elsewhere.

Madingley Hall was a perfect choice, especially if you drive and prefer a countryside setting. The old-fashioned manor boasts stunning views and offers a peaceful retreat, just a 20-minute drive from Cambridge city centre. While the facilities have a traditional charm, they are very clean and tidy. The room provided everything I needed, including a fridge, hair dryer, iron, and TV. The staff were exceptionally professional and friendly, adding to the pleasant experience. One pleasant surprise was the ability to connect to eduroam, the university WiFi network, if you are a university student or staff member. This was a convenient alternative to the hotel WiFi. Breakfast was brilliant, offering a great start to each day. The common room is extensive and cosy, featuring a large TV. During my stay, which coincided with EURO 2024, guests gathered there to watch the matches, creating a very good vibe.
I encountered multiple instances of sudden low water pressure halfway through my shower, but completely understood that it's an old building,

Lovely environment and rooms clean and very well equipped as was the en-suite. Single rooms are smallish but more than adequate just don't expect "grandeur" if you're in a single. Access to rooms can be a little challenging, this is not a place for anyone with mobility issues. Car parking is substantial and staff are helpful and friendly. Dinner offerings are not great but there is a pub within five minutes walking distance. Breakfast on the other hand is excellent. A place I will definitely use again.
Small moan is the long trudge with bags to my room .. lots of stairs and the room numbering is somewhat prosaic. Beer prices in the Terrace are frighteningly high .. I would suggest that you avoid drinks there and go down the road. I did not eat in The Terrace but the variety of food on offer was very limited.

Beautiful gardens and surroundings. Friendly staff. Lovely breakfast with ample choice. The room was comfortable and clean and was also nice and warm when we arrived. We did choose to turn the radiator off as I can't sleep in a heated room, but that's just my choice. The facilities provided were adequate for our needs. Coffee, tea, and milk provided plus a couple of packets of biscuits. Hotel around 15 - 20 minutes by car into Cambridge, so if you want to explore, you will need a car. There was a park and ride not too far which is great if you don't want to find parking if going into Cambridge. Nice pub just down the road, but the hotel also had a terrace bar and cafe if you don't want to venture out for a drink. Would definitely book here again.
Everything was perfect for us. Just wished we could have stayed longer.

The building and the surrounding gardens are well maintained and breathtaking at dawn. I appreciated the old fashioned exterior and interiors, while guaranteeing all the comfort and benefits of the modern age. Excellent breakfast, both in quality and quantity. I highly recommend a stay here if you are visiting Cambridge, with a 30-35 minutes bus ride to the city centre
I would set the room temperature a little bit higher. The water pressure in the bathtub was pretty low and the mixer was not working properly: a small change produced either 15 °C or 45 °C

The staff are all friendly and helpful. It was good value for money for one night. Breakfast was a delight - a mixture of continental and english and taste good. The location is away from the main road so it was peaceful and very scenic. We requested a taxi to take us to St. John's College and charged us £14 plus one way (around 3+ miles and took us 10mins approx.). The garden is beautiful with lots of topiary. Lots of free parking spaces in Madingley that time and is within minutes walk to the hall. The building itself looked historical and elegant. The room was clean with a bonus of a flat iron and small ironing board. The matress was a bit firm for us but still gave us a comfortable sleep. We had freeview channels on TV. Have no issues visiting again with the family. Highly recommended.
The telephone in our room wasn't connected so unable to call the reception from there but it wasn't a big deal for us.

A lovely, unusual place to stay and as part of the University of Cambridge, it made me feel like a student again! The hall itself is lovely, and accommodation geared to students (albeit mature ones), so not somewhere to go if you are looking for pampered luxury, but if you just want a base with a comfortable bed, TV, tea-making facilities and en-suite, then it is fine. It came with everything I needed (hairdryer, ironing board etc). Excellent value for money with a good breakfast included and a good (if limited) bar menu for eating in the evening. There is a pub very near for those wanting a more extensive range of food. The grounds are lovely with plenty of interesting topiary. The staff I met were lovely - so polite and friendly. A good place to use as a base to explore nearby Cambridge and surrounding area , especially if you are on a budget. Nice atmosphere - bit of a 'Bletchley Park' feel to it.
I was happy with everything. As mentioned above, those wanting spacious, plush bedrooms to luxuriate in will be disappointed, and being 'halls of residence' there is obviously a bit of noise from neighbouring rooms, but it didn't bother me.

The hall, grounds and gardens are spectacular. The history and setting was very interesting. The breakfast was good, reasonable choice and the staff were attentive. The bar and croquet in the evening was fun. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well. The room clean and quiet. Shower was suprisingly good. Excellent value for money. Wifi in room. Local was good for the park and ride to Cambridge and Tge American cemetery was within walking distance.
Let's be honest the rooms are dated, clean and comfortable but dated. The decor looks like it was done in the 90s and the TV in the room looked from the same era, do not expect to be able to stream on it or have channels other than freeview. Breakfast was basic but done well, no option for cappuccino etc only filter coffee. Lighting in the room (particularly the lamps) were not working well.

Fabulous stunning building with extensive grounds with pathways. Lovely and peaceful setting with exceptionally well kept gardens. Beautiful flowers and lawns kept to perfection. Lovely little lake to walk with woodland walk. Lovely terrace bar overlooking grounds with snacks and salads. Breakfast served in panelled room with plentiful breakfast and more than enough choice. Vegan options and good milk choice. Rooms are basic but literally have everything you need. Hot water and quick filling bath, daily room service and coffee etc all replenished. All ground staff really helpful and welcoming. Would definitely stay again for all these reasons and more. 5 mins drive from park and ride to get to city centre which is so easy, reliable and cheap. Only a two minute walk to local pub but that is all in the immediate area. Great parking which felt safe and secure.
Was a little disappointed as no-one replied to any of my booking.com messages which was frustrating prior to arrival and i nearly cancelled due to the ignorance. The staff on arrival say they can not see these messages which seems odd. The ONLY downside to the actual property is the very LOUD fire doors throughout the building which constantly bang through the day and night. I know this is for safety but surely there can be something to soften the noise as it is quite disturbing

Warm welcome from Andrew, extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was amazing. Rooms extremely clean and comfortable beds. Hotel and surroundings made us feel like royalty. Easy drive to park and ride for cheap and easy access to town for disabled family member. Lovely comfortable bar area to relax with family.
Grumpy Ben serving in bar, no apology for part of our group receiving food half an hour later than rest because of group booking next door, quite non personable. Shower randomly got scalding hot. Non slip mat needed for shower, especially for disabled guest. Steps to rooms tricky for disabled guest..
