This traditional hotel in Carrbridge is a little difficult to describe. While we enjoyed our stay and we were comfortable here, there were some things we didn't like. The food was really good and breakfast service was good. We had dinner in the bar next to the crackling fireplace one night. Beds were comfortable and clean, with lovely wool covers.

Overall the place feels worn and could use a refresh. The bathroom was fine but the furniture, flooring, and common areas felt old and tired. There were little things like a broken doorknob and gouges in the walls that made it feel less nice. There's a pervasive smell of wood smoke and food throughout. Our clothes, coats, and even pajamas smelled like a camp cabin after two nights here. The place is lower priced than most in the area. It's not bad but I don't think we'd stay there again.

Everything was exceptionally good. The hotel has such a good atmosphere, a very traditional hospitality, comfy and clean room. The food at the pub is very good, locally sourced and made fresh to order, and a fab selection of beverages. A very nice atmosphere at the pub, with crackling fire and a nice chat with folk. The breakfast is generous and hearty, will definitely keep you going for a full day of adventures. The room is cozy and just the right temperature, the bed is comfy and the shower is warm. I absolutely loved staying there, and would be back for sure.

Nothing really. There were some small details (like a tv remote needed a good wipe), and a bit more information about the room on booking.com, but this is nothing compared to the wonderful stay I had.

Property was fantastic with a very spacious room and ensure. Evening meal was outstanding!! Massive platefuls and all home cooked. My husband had steak...Best he's tasted I opted for the haggis lasagne which was very good. The place was extremely busy on arrival and all locals friendly. The breakfast was superb with range of cereals, porridge and cooked breakfast all again fantastic. The Bar has a pool table and drinks are reasonable priced. Staff very friendly. Overall 10 out of 10. We will be back in the near future im sure.

Only little negative was the wait to be seen by member of staff to our room despite ringing the bell. We were waiting for over 10 minutes. However it was busy with guests at bar and food service that evening and with the hotel being outstanding as my above review states, I'm sure this doesn't normally happen.

I liked the location. It gave me a base to stay and visit many places that were within reach time wise and distance wise. The breakfast was good and was included in the price. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and patient. There is plenty of parking spaces for vehicles.

I arrived by motorcycle and found the motorcycle park blocked by a skip and old fridge/freezer so was unable to use this facility. The car park with loose gravel does not work very well with two wheels.

All the staff were lovely from start to finish. Had drinks at the bar, dinner, then a couple more drinks after! Great bar, best selection we’d seen on our travels. Food was excellent too. Room did the job, bright and spacious. Bit warm overnight, but only because we didn’t spot two windows we could have opened! Breakfast the following morning was superb.

Only two comments (not complaints!), bathroom door was noisy to close so woke up our wee man early doors. And beans with the breakfast would have made it perfect!

This is a super hotel. Comfortable accommodation, nice bar, good food and lovely staff - all of whom added to the enjoyment of our stay. We'd eaten here before but this was first time we had booked accommodation. Our room was very nice and we had everything we needed, including generous tea and coffee facilities - no need to go cap in hand and ask for more if we wanted more than one cup of coffee during our stay. Our evening meal was excellent, as was our cooked breakfast the following morning. The hotel is smart without being pretentious. The bar has a nice atmosphere, and a lovely log fire, and, to my husband's delight, they offer an impressive selection of real ale - not always seen this side of the border. We were comfortable and relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Carrbridge is only a handful of miles from Aviemore and we will certainly stay there again next time we are in this area. The hotel also has its own car park.

There was nothing that we didn't like.

I’m disappointed because I opted to “pay at hotel”. When I arrived I noticed booking.com had taken a payment but was pending. I didn’t query until I checked out today and the hotel informed me I was due full payment. I paid in full and that has cleared on my account. But I still have the full amount pending in my account through booking.com. Do I have to pay double? I will await the developments over the next few days but at this point I will not use Booking.com in future. I don’t have a complaint with the Cairn Hotel. They were always helpful and courteous

Location was ideal for a stop off point on our tour up the east coast, especially with the added interest of the historic Packhorse Bridge, literally on the doorstep.....an added bonus :) The evening meal we had was excellent, breakfast also generally good, and the room totally adequate for our needs. Surprisingly, there wasn't too much disturbance from a 21st birthday party that was occurring in the pub....also the road was pretty quiet.

Sticky tables :( ....not doubting they had been cleaned....just some types leave a tackiness? Breakfast....although the food was good, the service and availability of what was on offer was a little confusing/missing? Not sure if cereals etc were available on display ...or juices...don't think we were offered the latter? And we ordered toast with the cooked breakfast but didn't receive it. Other than that it was very good.

Staff were very friendly, food was really tasty. The one beer I tried from the bar was excellent. Room was excellent. Beds were comfortable. En-suite facilities were great and everything worked as it should. 10/10 for everything.

My only concern was the way that the room keys all sit out on a shelf just inside the front door; that seems like an invitation to have the keys stolen or cloned by an opportunist. As does putting the hotel name and postcode on one side of the key fob and the room details on the other side, so that if a key is lost or stolen anyone who finds the key can locate the hotel and identify and access the room. In an ideal world it wouldn't matter, but we don't live in an idyllic world, unfortunately.

The decor of the rooms is rather old-fashioned, but that didn't bother us. The rooms were immaculately clean. You wouldn't find a speck of mildew in the bathroom. The complementary shower gel smells lovely. We found the bed very comfortable. Tea, coffee and bottled water are provided. The location is very good, it's right in the middle of Carrbridge, 2 min walk from the bridge. Easy to find. Our room had a window facing the back of the building and the night was very quiet. We got up at 8am and could hear a rooster, which we enjoyed :) (it wasn't loud enough to wake us, but once we were up we could hear him). What blew us away was the food - the dinner in the hotel restaurant was one of the best dinners I ever had in a hotel. I had a pigeon for starter, which is not that common and it was ages since I had one, so that was a lovely surprise. The black pudding they serve alongside pigeon and for breakfast was amazing. Husband chose mussels for starter, which he really enjoyed as well. For mains our party had hake, steak pie and pork, all excellent and generous portions. The blueberry cheesecake for dessert was to die for! Breakfast was beautifully cooked and the portion was adequate, we left full and satisfied, but managed to finish it with no waste (I feel like some places overdo it and you end up overeating). The staff are a credit to the hotel, everyone was so polite, friendly and smiling. We found this hotel to be an excellent value for money and would definitely come back.
