I liked the hotel a lot. It was a cool space that was very welcoming . The staff were exceptional nice and helpful. Our room was a suite and it was lovely. The breakfast in the morning was excellent. We ate dinner in the dining room two nights of our stay and that was lovely. The food was good and the staff excellent. They were very busy one night and our order took a little longer and they complimented us a discount. That was very nice . Not necessary ,for it was only a little longer, but very nice.

There was nothing I did not like

The location was lovely old town vibe combined with a tastefully decorated rustic style. Staff were attentive and helpful without being intrusive . My mum had booked this as an engagement gift. the hotel went out of their way to make sure we felt our celebration was special. On arrival we were welcomed with a lovely selection of delicious cakes and a congratulatory message along with them. We were given complimentary drinks vouchers, dressing gowns and slippers, just added to our lovely stay. The rooms were spacious and immaculate . The stay was comfortable and relaxing. We would come back in a second and definitely recommend to anyone.

Friendly Reception staff, especially 'Abs' and the Brazilian lady who were always cheerful and helpful. Excellent bed and bed linen. Well cooked and presented breakfasts and dinner. Good bedside lights and phone charging sockets. It was easy to turn the heating off, open the window and work the TV. Plenty of comfy leather sofas and places to sit and relax with a whisky from the bar upstairs.

Tiny cartons of UHT milk on the tea/coffee bag tray. I should have asked for a jug of real milk. It could be difficult for less agile people getting into the bath or shower area in the bath because of the glass shower screen and the very hot towel rail. So wrap a towel around the heated towel rail to avoid hurting your hand. Good hot water and pressure. Slightly fusty smell in my room 'Chateau de Rolleriae', maybe from the carpet.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good. The restaurant was pleasant to be in although very quiet. My room was comfortable and the housekeeping was spot on. It had a very low ceiling though so if you are very tall or a couple ask for a different room to The chateaux. Just round the corner from the Festival Theatre and museum both of which I visited.

The outlook from the restaurant and my room was graffiti and a bus stop. I acknowledge this is centre old town so maybe I should have expected it. The end of freshers week meant Saturday night outside was noisy until the small hours. Somewhat lacking in atmosphere due to low guests in the restaurant.

The hotel is within walking distance of everything central in Edinburgh, being very tastefully appointed, the room was lovely, clean and the staff were very attentive. Made for a really nice break between Christmas and New Year.

The breakfast is poor value for money, at that price point, would expect to be served coffee or tea at the table and probably toast as well, wouldn't normally expect to serve myself hot drinks and use a toaster at a hotel of this calibre. The standard of the hotel demands table service for breakfast in my humble opinion.

The hotel is really lovely, lots of old world charm with modern style too. The location is just perfect for Fringe right beside all main areas. The receptionist was fabulous, had only started job few weeks but went above & beyond to show us room. Lovely gift for anniversary and we will definitely return.

The food in bistro, the menu for dinner is limited and my husband had steak it was just okay, I had a raw undercooked hake. It was swimming in warm hollandaise type sauce and had 6 tiny potato cubes. In fairness to the restaurant when I showed server the hake they could see red blood veins and uncooked center. They took off bill but I went without dinner as service was so slow and recooking was not option for us. It took 1hr from order to food. I would suggest overhaul of menu

Very walkable location. Parking was less than 5 minutes away and the staff helped us prebook it with a discount code so we just drove right in and parked. Nice ambiance at the hotel. Nothing overly posh or formal but definitely above ordinary hotel. Staff were very nice and accommodating. I booked a suite the day of the stay and received a call a couple of hours later that no suite was available. Someone else had booked it at the same time. They gave me the cost difference in a restaurant allowance, free breakfast, and a bottle of champagne by way of an apology. It was initially very disappointing- I wanted the king size bed because my husband is extremely tall- but they did everything they could to make up for the error.

Room was quite dark even with all the lights on and our room was over a courtyard. No problem Thursday but Friday two very happy couples were out there well past 11:30. Restaurant was a big disappointment. Good for breakfast but dinner service needs much better management.

The location was great and the staff were all so lovely. The bed was incredibly comfy and the roll top bath in the room was a great touch. We loved the room.

One of the blinds didn’t come down which meant the morning light was bright in the room and I was worried about privacy too. I also noticed some mould around the windows in the bathroom which was pretty thick, plus the plug control (to open and shut the bath plug) came off in my hand when I was trying to open the plug. I wouldn’t normally say anything but it was a pretty expensive room!

Beautiful grounds, nice big comfy rooms, well situated and the staff are next to none. Very helpful and friendly. This was our second stay at the hotel and we will be back again and again!

We had spent over £100 more than last year and got given a substantially smaller room. But after calling the reception the staff showed us a bigger room. Not really a complaint, just an observation. As stated above. The staff where absolutely brilliant with us.

From the moment we checked in we were treated like old friends! Gorgeous, atmospheric hotel in a great location for exploring Edinburgh by foot! Our room was upgraded as we were celebrating my husbands birthday, champagne and chocolates waiting for us! We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast, the food was exceptional and staff throughout the hotel were warm and welcoming.

Only being able to stay one night! Our fault as that's all we booked! Will know better next time! Not being able to post more photos, I took lots!
