Lovely hostel. Remember, it's a hostel so your experience is only as good as the guests sharing the room with you. Luckily for me, mine were very respectful and while I was first to go to bed, the others in the room were very quiet. Extremely friendly and helpful staff on reception, cosy communal rooms, complimentary tea and milk, incredible location.
Nothing that I wouldn't expect with it being a hostel or for the price. As hostels go, and I have stayed in my fair share, it was excellent, and I'm sure I'll be back.

I absolutely love being in an old Victorian building, and often wish I was living in that era. Everything was so ornate, creepy and beautiful, just the way I like it.
I am not against people playing the guitar or anything, but I really HATE sad-type songs with the singer yelling out stuff that's supposed to be so heartbreaking ect, so I wished the 2 lads sitting on the stairs singing music like that on their guitars to just SHUT UP. I like happy music like classical music, medieval lute music or crazy New York jazz (like Wynton Marsallis)ect. I don't know why people would want to hear sad songs yelling out a load of rubbish. With guitar music I like Dwight Yoakam (country western) or classical guitar like John Williams. Most of the music of today is just an empty-headed disgusting disgrace. It really is.

Great location and accommodations, all the different shared areas are really nice, the place is beautiful and well taken care of. For the price it's definitely worth it. The personnel is super nice, the rooms are big, everything is cleaned, lot of showers and toilets and space in the bathrooms to get ready. I love the theme rooms, with the names related to movies/pop culture. There are thick blankets very comfy and the mattress is good too. Definitely recommend the breakfast too.
Share dormitory and rude people that make a lot of noise early in the morning including switching the lights on and leaving them even after they left when it's still dark outside (6 am) like 😫.

The location is next to Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile, and Grassmarket Street, which is very convenient for sightseeing. The staff is friendly and welcoming. It is also very nice to have free coffee/tea/hot chocolate available anytime. There are plenty of common areas to hang in. The bath and toilet are reasonably good.
Even though I did not try the breakfast (4bp/person), I believe the food variety and quality could be improved slightly. For example, offering more hot or warm food.

As far as hostels go Castle Rock hostel is fantastic. It's very clean, the staff are kind and helpful, and I felt very comfortable. Everyone in my room was quiet and respectful, wouldn't even hear my bunk mate come and go. Bathrooms are clean and still easy to use in peak hour times. Beautiful views out of all of the windows. Fantastic location right next to Edinburgh castle made it super easy to come back during the day to rest or charge my phone. Cheap simple breakfast to set you up for the day. Would 100% stay again great value for money and you don't really feel like you're staying in a hostel.
Maybe could add curtains to the beds for privacy, my bed was right by the door and everyone would walk past me while I was asleep to leave!

The atmosphere was fantastic, with a friendly and welcoming vibe from everyone. The kitchen and common areas were well-equipped, making it easy to cook meals and socialize with other guests. There were daily activities proposed. The entire hostel was clean, including the restrooms and showers, which were well-maintained. Additionally, the bed was very comfortable. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a great place to stay!
The curtains didn't block out enough light, so by 4:30 AM, the room was illuminated by the sun. However, this was not excessively important compared to everything else the hostel offers.

I met so many people from different countries, walks of life, experiences, journeys and all ages. I probably met more people my age (55) and older. Engaged with all. I stayed In a shared room of 4 beds with different ages and genders. We all went out and had breakfast together. They have something planned nearly every night if you want to partake. The staff were so easy to talk to and super helpful. I highly recommend Castle Rock Hostel.
More merch would’ve been good. I needed a bottle for water lol, but realy ai couldn’t fault the place. So clean and great facilities.

Honestly loved this hostel. Between the location, to the staff, to the layout and lounges, everything was awesome. Would recommend and would definitely stay again. Only 2 very small negatives, my blanket reeked like BO. Pods have their own lights and charging ports tho and lockers can fit a lot. Other negative is their luggage room doesn't seem that secure. It is locked and staff need to unlock it but everyone's stuff is grouped together, however you can just bring your stuff down to your room. Overall this hostel has set the bar for me. Love love love it.

Great location within walking distance of everything! The hostel has a lot of bathrooms and showers which is superb. It's quite a large hostel and they host a lot of events including daily movie nights, so there's always something to do and it's easy to meet people. I really enjoyed my stay!
My bed was the top bunk and there was no ladder! The beds also don't have shelves or guardrails so it's tough to store any things on the top bunk - and if you move around a lot you might get scared of falling off.

As I get older and get to know myself better, I'm slowly realizing that I might not be the kind of person that can get a good night's sleep in a room with strangers. But that is definitely not this hostel's fault. This hostel is a charming, accomodating, and friendly living space, and I would definitely pick this hostel again if I were more extroverted or were travelling with a group of friends. Also: I had a very sturdy lower bunk with absolutely no vibrations felt from the upper bunk. Perfectly executed. I do not know if all rooms are built this way.
