Our hosts were extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. The property is very clean and well furnished. Although we had a small double room, it still met our needs and didn’t feel cramped. The bed is one of the comfiest I have ever slept in. Breakfast was generous and well cooked and set us up for the day. Public transport is plentiful and regular enough that we didn’t use our car again once we had arrived.

Wonderful original features still in the house. Cornice, molding, doors, fireplaces, windows etc. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Fantastic breakfast on a pre-order system so it's almost ready when you get downstairs. Freshly cooked, hot and plentiful. They allow you to order takeaway in as they no longer provide a dinner service. Plenty of soft and alcoholic drinks available to purchase. A small decanter of sherry is provided in the room. Along with good sized towels, hairdryer and best of all an iron and board if you need to smarten things up from your case. Although there are 14 rooms we found it quiet inside the hotel. A good location if you want to stay a bit further out of the city centre as prices have rocketed in town since we visited 2 years ago. Fantastic bus service ( a stop almost outside and opposite) and capped at £4.80 a day no matter how many journeys or how far you travel .It covers going all the way out to Leith on the new tram. The single fare on a tap and go system with cards is £2 00.

Not a lot not to like!! But for advice before you book: We were on the top floor. If you have mobility issues check which room you are in as it's 4 sets of stairs to the top!! If you are sensitive to noise the windows are original and single glazed. You are on a busy main road with almost constant traffic. Enjoy your stay....we did!!

I had a wonderful stay at kildonan lodge hotel the staff were alll very very friendly and welcoming and the roll was comfortable and clean . The breakfast was delicious with plenty of options as I am on a special diet and it definitely suited me the location is perfect bus stop just across the road 10 to 15 min to city centre they have plenty of sheets at the reception a desk full of activities local restaurants and plenty more for people who are confused like I was what to do pretty much I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay Coming back in jun Looking forward to that

The greeting from the reception team was so lovely. They gave us details about the area and had a printout with the bus routes and a map. They asked us where we wanted to go and told us the best way to get there, they even took the time to have a chat with us about our trip and recommend places to visit and eat. The waiting area was beautiful and had a cosy fire in the evenings. The location of the hotel was fantastic with multiple buses stopping virtually outside. Not too far from city centre and not too far to get to Portobello beach. The room was as described and came with a kettle and an assortment of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. There was also biscuits, bottled water and milk portions, all of which were replenished each day (along with towels). There was a television, hair dryer and even an iron. The water pressure in the shower was amazing and we had complimentary shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. We will definitely be back :)

The room needed a little touch up with the decorations and there were a few holes in the walls and chipped paint. The vent in the bathroom needs a bit of a clean It might be nice to have an outlet in the bathroom so you can blow-dry your hair in the mirror.

The huge advantage of this place is free car parking place they have! the room is okay, the size, the cleanliness comfortable bed. you have a good size bathroom. The breakfast is okay, but it is served to the table, so you get what you get and that's it. Also, it is a waste of time of course.

Well, the property is located on the main road with intense traffic as it was mentioned in previous reviews . We traveled in winter time, so the windows were shut, but if you travel in summer I suppose it might disturb you sleep. I must mention that late at night the traffic is weak, so you can manage to sleep after all. Another issue is a low water pressure in the bathroom, and the water is or very cold or boiling hot, so good luck with taking a bath! The guest room with the fireplace as you see in the pictures actually is a small room with no operating fireplace, most of the time the electricity is off there and nobody sits there...

We stayed in room 8, called “the master bedroom.” As you look at the front of the lodge it’s on the top floor bay window. of the Incredible architecture, and the tall ceiling detail looked like a wedding cake. Loved the 4 poster bed. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed into the of fireplace heated lounge, and shown leaflets of things to do in Edinburgh.

The floor inside the shower was slippery… I did not slip but I’d like to have some rough texture under foot to reassure me. Also please note there is no elevator… one of the guests who reviewed the EDC Kildonnan talked about the sound of the elevator which made me think there was one but there is not. Only one floor up, however.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and the en suite bathroom had a bath with an electric shower which worked well once we discovered how to switch it on. A complementary flask with sherry and two glasses was a nice touch.

The bedroom was an attic room with 2 flights of stairs and 43 steps and no lift. We are both 80 years plus but we managed to cope. If you have mobility problems it would be best to ensure that you get a bedroom on the lower floors. Parking (free) is available but limited. If you arrive late at night there is a risk that the car park is full and alternatives nearby are limited.

It was a pleasant experience with an excellent location compared to the city center, being close to the bus station. Breakfast is varied and you have the opportunity to eat traditionally. The room is very nice with al the necessities and the staff is always helpful.

As a recommendation I would extend breakfast by at least to 11am so that you can rest and sleep a little more. Unfortunately, our towels were not changed during the 5 days of holiday. If you’re a sensitive sleeper, you may wake up several times during the night because the building moves when the buses pass or when other tourists leave the room, after it’s an old beautiful building from 1874.

Friendly and welcoming staff, really comfortable bed, excellent cooked breakfast and fresh coffee. The room was spacious, despite being in the basement, and had a fairly modern shower room. Everything was spotless. The location was excellent for us attending a wedding nearby.

With the exception of the very new and comfortable bed, the furniture was a bit shabby and in need of repair/replacement e.g. cupboard door knob was off but left inside, which would be easy to fix, some drawers were falling apart. Same with the décor; lots of scuffs and marks that could be rectified. Besides this, I would still return due to everything else being well taken care of.

Short taxi journey to and from the city centre. Clean room with all the essentials and a huge comfortable bed. Overall our stay was pleasant.

The side table the TV was on is not stable. Bathroom although clean functional could do with being updated corroded curtain/towel rail, rusty radiator, mouldy shower curtain. Showering was awkward with the sloped ceiling with the raised so high The steps into the bath/shower quite treacherous as my friend slipped. Elements of the breakfast pre cooked too much beforehand which I understand to save on waiting time but made sausage, bacon dry and tomato halves mushy. However the eggs fried and scrambled were cooked perfectly but the scrambled had an unusual but not unpleasant taste.
