The staff went above and beyond. Every one of them was friendly and helpful. Luisa (at the reception desk) gave us exceptional suggestions for sightseeing, and Juan and David were warm and welcoming when we ate in the restaurant or just stopped for a drink at the bar. Edward actually spent a bit of time with us in the bar as we pored over a map of Scotland, planning our road tour, and he pointed out places to see along our routes. We were sad to leave the Scholar. Wish we could have had it for every stop!

Who thought it was a good idea to have a shower without a door? You can't shower without getting water all over the floor. Then you have to use a towel to wipe it up, as the bath mat isn't big enough to soak up all the water! There should be washcloths in the rooms for a quick face washing or spongebath. Six to eight inches between the bed and the wall was too tight! It was treacherous trying to get to the far side of the bed, especially because the TV was also on the wall in that tiny space. Had to bend over the bed to avoid hitting your head on the TV - very awkward.

The staff were amazing, I got to talk with a lot of them, friendly and helpful. I got advice on what to check out while I was staying there, and where to try some of the local traditional food. The food was also pretty good, I got to try a few different items when I got back from adventuring in the town. All in all, I left the plates I ordered cleaned. Tho if you are a fan of Scooby Doo, their sandwiches are very similar to what you see that show. Stacked and Delicious.

The room window, if I wanted natural light, it was facing the window towards the bar and back door of the building so people could see into the room. Sure there was a screen (curtain) to block that from happening but I personally get subconscious about someone staring at me while I sleep or waking up.

Very quiet and comfortable, close to a swimming pool and the Holyrood park, very comfortable beds.

A bit far from the city centre but fast and east to reach by bus. At this price point you'd expect a better breakfast. Everything needed to be asked for and nothing was replenished without asking: a teapot for instance. The yoghurt and fruit salad bowls were empty almost immediately after breakfast started and stayed empty, even though staff members must have seen them because they walked right past them. I was there for 4 nights, went to breakfast around 9 or earlier, and I never saw anything else than the sad dregs of a fruit salad.

Small, boutique-like, mid-market hotel managed by the University of Edinburgh, and located on the Pollock Halls of Residence site, southwards of the Old Town, next to Arthur's Seat and the Royal Commonwealth Pool aquatics complex. This is a relatively quiet area about 30 min on foot from the centre of the city (Princes Street) although that can be considerably shortened by making use of Edinburgh's excellent public transport buses . Good value for money at the price I paid (although the room was indeed tiny). The full Scottish breakfast was excellent.

Hard to figure out exactly where it is from the map / instructions - my advice is to follow google maps !

We picked this superb hotel for its location under Arthur's Seat around Hollyrood Park. It is in the university complex but a quiet, peaceful location with a gate so feels safe. On arrival at reception, I realised I'd left my handbag in the taxi! Staff instantly rang my phone to alert the driver & rang the two black city taxi companies & he had returned with my bag in 5 minutes! All staff were polite, friendly & helpful & it was well staffed. Nothing was too much trouble & they would always ring a taxi for you which arrived in minutes or let us know about bus no.30 & trams & attractions. Breakfast fab, the evening menu looked very good but we ate out due to our itinerary. Our room was luxury! All carpets were either freshly cleaned or new. Lovely big room & bathroom. A bit hot the first night until I realised you could turn the radiators right down & open windows! Great shower, fab coffee machine which we struggled to work but they sent someone up within minutes to show us & gave us extra pods & milk. Slept like a log! Bed huge with Soft pillows. We wil be back!

Nothing not to like!

Room was very comfortable and clean. I appreciate the possibility to make a cup of tea of coffee. Breakfasts were really great with a lot of options including Scottish breakfast. The location was relatively convenient although not the city centre (bus stop, park, and stores nearby).

There is actually nothing where I could say that I didn't like it. Having a fridge/minibar in the room would be nice. Otherwise, nothing was really missing or bad in particular... walking for/from city centre is still possible although not very close.

The Scholar is part of Pollock Halls complex (University of Edinburgh), which is something we only realised when we turned up. But since we were there for the University Open Day, it worked well for us. The hotel itself is modern and clean, the beds and pillows are comfortable and breakfast was nice too.

The car park right next to the hotel is very small, and although there are alternative free car parks available it can be very confusing when you first get there. It's about 30 minutes walk to the city centre, which is fine on a nice day but not so great when it rains.

Staff was exceptional and willing to help with anything we've needed. The room was very spacious, clean, with comfy beds and a large bathroom. Breakfast was very good, and staff was again, exceptional. The hotel is part of the university campus, surrounded by parks, trees, and nature, and there are a lot of students. Altogether it has a very pleasant vibe. You do need to walk like 2 kilometres to reach Royal Mile or Princess Street, but we do like to walk, so we didn't mind. We've rented a car for two days to travel around Scotland, and there was private parking on campus, which was also very useful. We would definitely come back here again.

Size and comfort of the room and bed. Excellent general cleanliness and condition. Good choice of breakfast options (I am vegan and lactose intolerant but there were still plenty of items to choose from.) Staff were keen to help. We had peace in our room during the day (my father died very recently and it was good to be able to have somewhere comfortable to curl up undisturbed when I couldn't face going out).

We had one evening meal in the restaurant and were repeatedly asked by different staff if we were happy with our food, which felt a bit intrusive especially after the fourth time... I was relieved that there was one vegan main option available, but it was rather bland (a lot of white orzo with some broccoli and a little garlic, rocket and almonds - I would have liked there to be less orzo and more vegetables and nuts or tofu in it). However, my partner's halloumi burger and chips looked and smelled delicious (and it was, he assured me!) and we were impressed by the generous servings of halloumi. And it was obviously far better than there being no vegan options at all!

Really clean and modern hotel with great rooms and a wonderful shower. The Hotel is very well maintained and there is nothing we felt we needed as regards room amenities. The location is great and we walked into the city each day.

We did ask for a quiet area of the hotel in the messages when we booked but we were placed overlooking the main access road. Each morning from 7 am we had deliveries, coming and going. Plus across from our room 302, there was a building with a large chimney that made a loud rumbling noise from 3am. Apart from this, we had a great stay. I would not have mentioned this issue only for we 'did' ask when booking for a quiet room as we are light sleepers. I know the area where the other rooms overlook and those would have been a lot quieter I feel.
