A huge, great breakfast. Even had vegetarian 'haggis,' delicious! For a uni hall it was great and as anticipated from the description. Whilst the bathroom wasn't attached it was opposite my room and there were plenty of others if someone was using the nearest one. The staff were invariably pleasant and helpful going above and beyond in some cases. Great view too.

Unfortunatly the lift was not working and I was on the 4th floor with a heavy (30k) case. One of the staff helped me with it but at 72, 4 flights of stairs was a challenge. Also I gather the lift had been out of action for some time. It's not central but there are plenty of buses.

- Excellent location next to Arthur's Seat - About 30-45m walk to Edinburg Castle - Large, clean room - Large selection for breakfest with excellent food throughout (buffet) - Better than you'd expect from a student room - Parking close to the room (we got lucky with the best possible spot, but some of the other parking is quite far away) - Campus well signposted and supplied map was helpful

- If you aren't as lucky as we were, you might be walking a long time from your parking spot to your room - Mazelike building and complex, might take a bit of getting used to (but well signposted and map is supplied) - Room service every five days is too little (we were here three nights, longer would have been unpleasant), you have the option to get additional towels from reception, however

Great breakfast, beds were comfy & in a good location that’s not too far from the Royal Mile.

I think there needs to be an emphasis told to school groups or just guest in general that there is quiet time that is after 11:30pm & that to take conversations into bedrooms & not in the hallways. Especially conversations involving large groups of loitering school children. Whilst staying there, a group from Spain & maybe even Italy of older school children were staying in the accomodation, chanting in the hallways, music up extremely loud, no thought process behind closing doors quietly instead of letting them slam. Whilst aware children/teenagers are generally unaware, it’s in times like they need to show their maturity & abide by rules. It’s unfair for other guests to be interrupted due to complete ignorance.

Breakfast was delicious, but dinner was not included. There was a bar right next door that was half the price of the university’s dinner - so, unfortunate but there was a convenient alternative. The bar was 18+ even just for food. Gorgeous view from my window! Very clean dorm, bathroom seemed well-maintained. There was a sink in the dorm, towels, etc. Lots of storage space. The lift wasn’t working and I was on the fourth floor so I got a bit breathless sometimes but the staff were very friendly and helpful. A welcoming environment overall! The photos attached are the view outside the room. There were also posters above the desk (which had plenty of outlets) with information for the stay.

Many reviews comment favourably on the available breakfast. It's all true. Suggestion - The first morning before loading up your tray, walk once around the food 'stations' to learn what is available. One first comes to the hot food which is placed on a substantial porcelain plate. This food cools quickly on those big plates. You can go back to the food stations as needed: 1. Get your cutlery, serviettes, juice or fruit plus cereals. 2. Prepare toast with your choice of condiments and then collect the hot food for immediate consumption. 3. Finish up with your tea and coffee. During the fringe, go early when everything has just been put out and the cafeteria is quite peaceful.

As I stayed for 10 days in a row, I needed to go to reception to obtain toilet paper and fresh towels as needed. Edinburgh experienced unusually cold weather this August 2024. The room was 7C - too cold for comfort.

Good location for Edinburgh Fringe events - 25-30 min walk to old town venues. Pleasant parkland-like setting with backdrop of Arthur’s Seat. Good buzz with lots of young people around. Simple but adequate study bedrooms. Good breakfasts but don’t expect fine cuisine. Might be struggle for veggies and vegans.

Shared bathrooms (approx 1 per 4 rooms) were OK, no problems with availability and generally clean and tidy but mastic in one I used needs to be replaced due to black mould growth.

Great location, really good selection of breakfast options, clean room, lovely grounds and surrounding area.

Fire alarm that went off during the early hours of Monday (19th), was very poorly dealt with. There were no fire marshals or anybody available to explain what was happening and if it was safe to return to our room. Not all occupants evacuated the buildings, and after about 15 mins the alarm stopped and everyone who was gathered outside, then returned to their rooms, as there was no direction. We also noticed that despite the alarms going off, taxis were still being allowed onto the premises and people were returning from their evenings out.

Very friendly and helpful staff, all very well organized, fantastic atmosphere meeting festival folks and students from all over the world. See the pipe bands rehearsaling, so wonderful. Breakfast rich, fresh and tasty! Arthur's seat around the corner, good bus connections to the city centre (30, 33, 14 e.g.), free parking if you find a spot. Safe place.

The Grant House was a bit old though clean. Noisy elevator, bathrooms could need a brush over. And doors should close more silently. Any noise travels a lot through corridors... Windows don't fully open to get real fresh air. Can get pretty warm.

Good location, lovely surroundings, nice toiletries in room which was a surprise and big fluffy towels. The breakfast was great - plenty of choice and lots of it. Liked the onsite restaurant/bar, ideal if you've had a busy day out. Food good and well priced. Campus shop was handy for bits and pieces. Generally quiet.

The TV didn't work in our room for the whole visit - reported twice but nothing came of it which was a shame. The bathroom was a bit tired with a couple of small issues that could easily have been rectified before visitors. Had the use of the communal kitchen which was modern and clean - but no crockery, utensils, washing up liquid or cutlery available only a microwave - would have been helpful to know this in advance.

I loved the location. It was not only close to the city center (Royal Mile in walkable distance), but also very beautiful. We were accommodated in newer buildings surrounded by historical ones like from a Harry Potter book and a lot of nature. It's like a oasis of peace. Food was awesome! You had a lot of options, everything was delicious, even the coffee was great!

The beds were mid. I understand that it's a student house and for a student house it's very good. But still, they could be better. We had 2 separate beds with different height of mattresses and legs that prevented us to push them together. Water pressure was insufficient. We had to shower longer and we probably used more water as if higher pressure and energy efficient shower heads would be used.
