I booked the Superior Double Room at Clerk and Well for four nights for a city getaway trip. This was the second time I have stayed at Clerk and Well. My first stay two years ago was excellent but a few things weren't perfect but after a remodel, things are now completely perfect! The comfortably furnished room, with an excellent bed and linens, also included a fridge and coffee maker and plenty of room to store your clothes. The bathroom has a tub/shower, plenty of towels and spaciousness. I enjoyed the city view to read and watch the world go by. A nice hot choice of breakfasts is included in the charming pub downstairs, served by a great staff. I like the location close to Farringdon station but many buses stop outside the pub permitting easy travel all through London. Honestly I would not want to stay anywhere else while visiting London.

Not all travelers will be able to manage the steep narrow stairway to the rooms above, so it's something to keep in mind.

Amazing large room and the staff in the pub was simply outstanding. Made us feel like the C & W was our "local" from the moment we walked in. Delightful breakfast menu and coffees provided every morning. Great selection of beers, though they were out of a few while we were there.

Room 8 shares a wall with the kitchen, and it can be a little loud later at night when they're cleaning. There is some street noise on the first floor, but to be expected anywhere in London on a low floor. Beware there are no elevators/lifts and if you're on the 2nd or third floor it's pretty tight and steep. Definitely don't recommend bringing a large, heavy suitcase because of this.

Easy access to the Farringdon tube station, which is a stop on the Elizabeth Line from LHR. Many of the major sights were easy to get to. The rooms and restaurant were beautifully decorated and comfortable. Even though the restaurant was lively and busy below, the room remained nice and quiet. The food was delicious for both dinner and breakfast. The staff kindly made breakfast sandwiches and brought several other items for us the night before we would have to leave early for the airport.

If you have any issue with steps, this property would not work for you. There are several flights of very steep steps and we did not see an elevator. Be prepared to carry luggage up and down.

Our room was immaculately clean and fresh, well presented, well equipped, comfortable, and it was so quiet which surprised us but was very welcome - we had been thinking being above a pub and on a busy street might be noisy but it really wasn't. The coffee maker and tea facilities were a great touch - very nice coffee choices! We were there during the winter and it was pleasantly warm and cosy. The room has air conditioning and a ceiling fan so we are sure it will be also be pleasant and comfortable in the summer months too. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in a friendly and lively London pub atmosphere, and breakfast was equally delicious - the Full English was very good. The food in general is excellent British pub grub. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Bar staff are a lovely bunch. Good and fair price for rooms and food. It's a great place for couples.

There was nothing we disliked, however - drinking water in the rooms would be good and an improvement. The toiletries - include a shower cap so the Monsoon shower can be enjoyed without getting your hair wet every time. The water was only warm enough for a shower, not hot enough to draw a bath. The stairs are extremely steep, which the hotel did tell us about to be fair - but this is not the place for very young families with prams or pushchairs, or folks who are less fit and able - there is no lift. We didn't mind the stairs but it is worth noting they are very steep! This is definitely a couples hotel.

We were welcomed by the hotel reception staff who escorted us to our room and even carried one of our cases. Please note that there are steep stairs to climb to get to your room so if you are not too mobile, you might struggle. There's no lift and the listing does mention all of that. The room was spacious, clean and had all of the amenities that you might need - such as good hairdryer and iron and ironing board. The bed was very comfy. The room is decorated nicely with old style furniture - which was nice and unique. The bathroom was lovely - large and beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. Just nit-picking but one of the lights wasn't working - probably just the bulb but we weren't that bothered. The property gives very good value for money. Our deal included breakfast which was very nice.

+ Check in, was easy and straight forward, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. + Our room (1) was cosy and clean. Shower pressure and temperature so perfect too. +Room had a fan and air con, windows opened a little. Double windows which kept out traffic noise. + Tea and coffee (nescafe machine) provided, so that was perfect. + Breakfast was very good. Full English, came on a slice of sourdough, and we could have eggs done any way. + We both loved the decor and colour scheme of the pub downstairs and the room we were in.

- The mattress was too firm, but I guess that is personal preference. - House keeping knocked around 9.30am, check out wasn't until 11am, though the staff did warn us about that the day before. House keeping also came into our room as we were coming back from breakfast, which is fine, but made us feel a little rushed. They literally have to wait like 10 minutes for us to gather our things and leave the room.

The room was pristine, spacious (not just for London, but anywhere!), tastefully decorated and very comfortable bed. Location is great - 10 minutes from Farringdon station, 30 minutes walk or a short bus/cab ride to theatreland. The pub itself is excellent, clean, beautifully decorated, has a good menu of well presented food and the staff are great. Definitely coming back. Many cuts above your normal London stay.

The stairs are not for the faint-hearted and there's no lift, so not appropriate if you have mobility issues. We were on the top floor, but it was worth the climb!

Beautiful spacious rooms with good amenities, lovely welcoming staff, lovely and quiet and a great location, we couldn’t have asked for more!

The only thing to note is that we were told breakfast was from 7-11am when we checked in. We arrived at 10.25am the next morning to be told that breakfast was closed, and when we asked why we were told it ran till 11am, the bar staff member told us breakfast was served “till around 10.30/11am ish”. Luckily another member of staff overheard this conversation and told us we could in fact have breakfast and showed us to a table. The breakfast was an absolutely delicious cooked breakfast so I’m glad the chef was kind enough to still serve us, but if you’re staying here you might want to go a little early just in case!

- English breakfast in pub was very good - Room was very spacious, clean and quiet - Comfortable bed - Great water pressure and plenty of hot water - Very nice staff - Excellent location near lots of great pubs and restaurants in Clerkenwell, Holborn and Farringdon - tons to walk to and easy to take the tube from Farringdon or Chancery Road

- It wasn't a problem for us but we were on floor 5 which is up about 55 shallow stairs and there is no lift - I was uncomfortable with how housekeeping was handled: I came back around lunch time and all rooms were propped open on all 3 floors with guests belongings in full view and completely unattended. And, the safe in our room was broken. - Not a problem, but I found it a bit odd that there was no power outlet in the bathroom. - Ceiling fan in our room did not work and room was quite stuffy.

Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Delicious breakfast (á la carte that includes 2 vegetarian options) included every day, I personally recommend the Eggs Benedicte. Spacious, comfortable and clean rooms. Located a little away from the center of town, so it is a bit calmer, but with great transport options close by. Can't recommend highly enough.

Slightly steep and narrow stairs up to the rooms. Only worth mentioning as it could be relevant for older guests, was not an issue for us personally.
