Location perfect for our visit. Breakfast excellent. We found the hotel to be a little run down and in need of some renovation, but understand this may have already started in a different part of the hotel.
Having booked a time for breakfast we didn’t expect to wait for the table to be set. When I contacted the hotel to make an enquiry, the receptionist (male ? Manager)was quite aggressive and intimated that I thought he was a “grumpy git”. This is not the language I would expected from someone in his position. An amicable solution was reached.

Large hotel set in a nice location. Lovely staff who would do anything for you. Decent bar and a lovely breakfast. Inclusive on site parking. Clean and comfy rooms.
The lights went off in the room but once reported was soon fixed. Hotel is under going renovation and has great potential once finished but work still to be done.

Room was lovely and comfortable coffee/tea water and biscuits a very nice touch.
Shame breakfast wasn't included have stayed before but quite a while ago when it was included . I was not prepared for that as it is 'bed and breakfast' not bed and £8.95 for breakfast.

The hotel was old, a little tired in the reception and corridor, but clean. Absolutely freezing tho throughout. Probably lovely in the summer, but single glazing in the winter is too cold..
Too cold, with smelly condensation.

Paul and the team could not have done anymore to make my mums 80th Thursford birthday celebrations any better. And the food! Wow! Thank you Paul, Kerry, Gabrielle and the team. Amazing! We will be back next year with a bigger gang :-)
Perhaps preheat the rooms prior to arrival. But they soon warmed up

The White Pheasant is an old hunting lodge so is an old timber framed building with many rooms and long corridors, yes it needs an update but our experience here for one night was generally positive, friendly and helpful staff, room was spacious, clean and well equipped, the evening meal was ok, breakfast (eggs Benedict) was lovely. For the price the hotel is good value for money. If you want something more updated and upmarket then feel free to stay at other accommodation in the area but you will add another £50 to £100 a night to what we payed at the white pheasant. Also the hotel is tucked away down along tree lined road away from the traffic.
Only complaint is not really the hotels fault but certain guests or visitors to the bar seemed to think it's ok to use the carpark as a smoking area and talk loud at night under the room windows when you are trying to sleep.

Loved the hotel and room. Very clean, even though it was dog friendly room. Normally other places give us a room that's not well kept or clean( even though we pay extra to cover for cleaning!) Lovely grounds, and food.Loved talking to one of the locals (Bill) at the bar.
Was met at reception by two housekeepers, manager was doing a function. Wasn't particularly friendly ( first impressions not good) but rest of staff very friendly and welcoming. Couldn't get a drink when we arrived,as bar was closed until 5.00pm, also closed on Sunday at same time. So early evening in room. We normally would have spent evening in the bar.

The hotel was accessed via a long drive, to the side of which was a well-maintained cricket pitch! The drive helpfully had illuminated bollards either side. The long drive meant that there was no noise from passing traffic, although the main road wasn't busy. All the staff we met were helpful, professional, and friendly. We had breakfast both mornings, which was good quality. The bedrooms were clean and tidy. The hotel was set in multi-acre grounds, a small part of which we walked around on the first evening.
None of the following comments should be taken as negative, simply for information. The bedrooms were both a little tired, although the bathroom of one looked to have been recently smartly redecorated. The hotel was an enormous building, which looked like it was in the process of being updated when funds allow. Having said that, the parts to which we had access were fine. A number of workmen were staying in the hotel, so their white vans were parked in the car park. However, there was still plenty of room for our car. Those workmen we met were perfectly pleasent, and they all left early in the morning on both days before we got up for breakfast.

We arrived for a two night stay and were very happy to find a good menu selection for Friday dinner which was served promptly . Dinner was excellent as was the breakfast we had on both mornings of our stay. Breakfast menu was varied and again served quickly by very friendly staff. Dinner was so good on Friday we decided after a days cycling that we stay in the hotel again that night and again we were very happy with dinner. The hotel is situated in a large area of woodland and watching the many rabbits was fun. We would be very happy to stay here again in the future especially as it is situated a very short distance from the Marriot Way ( a 26 mile long traffic free cycle and walking track stretching from Norwich to Aylsham through some gorgeous countryside ).
