Very good stay at this hotel. Everything is as described, no hidden negative points. Very rare these days! Spotlessly clean, modern rooms with big bathroom. Angela, the housekeeper, has an eye on it and even welcomes you with a personal greeting card. To have a good pub in the house is a big advantage. Noise due to the road is bearable (triple glazed windows), aircon is efficient and low-noise. All members of staff are very friendly and welcoming. Car is safely parked off road and buses run frequently to town from bus stop (50 m away) and cost 5 pounds for 24 hrs unlimited traveling. Will definitely recommend this place!

The room was excellent even though you had to go up a steep narrow staircase to get to it. It was spacious with comfortable bed and very well equipped bathroom including bath, rain shower and hand shower. Good coffee and tea facilities too. Lovely view with sea in the distance from the room. Friendly staff. Good wi fi

The pub is brash sports bar style with tv snd advertising screens. Not many in when we were there. The food we had on the first night (I accept it was the end of new year holiday period) was disappointing. We did not get the proper breakfast menu the first morning as normal staff were not on so no ‘continental’ options Much better on second morning Is the Downs hotel a local sports pub? Boutique hotel with easy access to Brighton? Or perhaps trying to be a pricey restaurant? I don’t think it knows!

I cant recall the key individuals names but arriving Friday I was told that brekfast didnt start untio 8am on the weekends and I needed to be in Brighton for 0830 having travelled in on the ecxcellent bus service. No problem the ever so helpful very bright and informative young lady who took me to my room 8, told me shed get a message to the duty manager have at lease a continental ready for 0730. In fact I had a hot breakfast, no trouble at all - and the two staff and chef were brilliant. I'd never stayed at a Stonegate Inn and immediately sought out one in my home area. It was that good.

Nothing, all perfect - honestly from the moment I walked in on Friday everything worked like clockwork.

Breakfast good; the location was rather discouraging on arrival (winter, dark), as it’s on a busy road junction with bleak shops nearby, but the view next morning, out over the English Channel, was fabulous. Very handy dog-walking in a vast downland field across the road. Inside is a very positive experience: lovely staff; a quiet competence in evidence; very nicely decorated, spacious room (though the stairs up to the bedrooms are very steep for older folk - us - and harshly utilitarian). I suspect if you arrived without at least one dog, they’d either lend you one or turn you away! Our two were made very welcome.

Those stairs! That’s all. We can’t hold the location against you, but the external socialising area at the front was looking fairly worn (sign of a popular pub, I’m sure). The side door and lobby area at the bottom of the stairs is pretty austere. It must be tricky to balance being a pub in that suburban area with attracting overnight stays. Easy in a pretty South Downs village: not so easy where you are.

Stayed here for 3 nights September 2024 while visiting family in Brighton. Very easy to get into the centre of Brighton either by car or public transport. Free car park. Plenty of choice for breakfast of either English breakfast or Continental. Very clean and comfortable rooms with excellent servicing of the room each day with fresh towels and tea, coffee etc. ( Thank you to Angela for that) All the staff I met were very friendly, efficient and helpful. A very good restaurant offering a very good choice of meals for both lunch and dinner. If you stay here you will not be disappointed.

This hotel is a gem. A 15 minute bus ride from Brighton (stop is outside hotel) gets you a fantastic place to stay with free parking, includes breakfast and with well equipped rooms and a reasonably priced restaurant. We had a quiet twin room at the rear of the property, with a lovely en-suite bathroom, nespresso machine and air con if required, plus usual amenities, a hairdryer, ironing board, toiletries. The staff were friendly and efficient, always helpful, they were great. I rarely leave a 10/10 review but this establishment absolutely deserves it. Brilliant.

Just 13 minutes outside Brighton ((or less in the evening) we found this hotel to be perfectly located for visiting our family in Brighton. With its own car park. The room (6) was spacious and very well appointed. The heating was instantly adjustable. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Breakfasts were made to order and good. We didn't join in the Sunday night quiz which was on while we has a meal, but it sounded fun. There was no disturbance from the pub downstairs at all in our 5 nights.

Nice pub hotel with views over the folds to the sea. We were visiting for the dog swim at Saltdean Lido so the location was great for us. Staff were really friendly and helpful and the whole hotel is dog friendly which is important for us. Room was small but nice and the bathroom was lovely and big with a big shower. Restaurant had a typical pub menu, quite extensive and on the whole food was good. Dinners came with lots of vegetables which was great, we had pies which were a bit dry but came with lots of gravy. Breakfast was very good.

Small point - Because of the location of the car park entrance and exit, near to a busy junction with traffic lights, it was difficult getting in and out

Gorgeous hotel above a pub. Beautiful views across the downs with the sea on the horizon. What a treat of a view. The room was lovely. Big but cosy with tasteful, calming decor. A nespresso coffee machine, premium biscuits, big comfy bed with lots of pillows, and all the essentials included - iron, toiletries, hairdryer, a huge bathroom with two different showers. The room was immaculate and so clean. Breakfast was included and there was plenty of choice with both continental and cooked breakfasts offered. I also ate in the pub in the evening and the food was delicious. Hearty and fresh. Exceptional value. All positive!

Everything. We were upgraded to the best room and it exceeded our expectations. Big room, HUGE comfy bed (best bed we've slept in), big bathroom and big TV. Everything was spotlessly clean, thanks to Angela. Nice selection of beverages and biscuits. Being at the front of the building we thought we would hear the road noise, but the triple glazing was amazing - we couldn't even hear the seagulls!!! We enjoyed the food too (had an evening meal as well as breakfast). Would definitely stay there again if in the area. Highly recommended.
