Breakfast

The receptionist was A1. Got us an alternative room (32) to our original designated room allocation- 61 (ground floor). The room was fine (no toilet brush, but what's new). Breakfast was faultless. It wasn't buffet- we had to place an order- but it was worth waiting for. The deco in the hotel is dated, but we love it. It's soooooo cozee. Great value. Only downside- it's CASHLESS- so we probably wont return. HATE CASHLESS. Sad.

The food was excellent. John, the Scottish chef came out every day to check the guests were happy with their food. A definite improvement from the last time we stayed there, September 2023. All the staff were helpful and friendly, with a particular mention for our waitress, Jayne, who brightened our day.

We had to ask for loose sugar each morning of our 3 night stay. The bar didn't have any malt whisky! The lighting in the bedroom was poor. I wear glasses, which I remove to put makeup on. It was too dark in the bedroom and the mirror in the bathroom is too far away, due to the wash basin.

i love this hotel, but its not because of its facilities or decor that make this place exceptional its the location, and some of the rooms have lovely views of the former natural swimming pool which is now a haven for wildlife and views over towards the Welsh mountains .. the whole place needs some attention and you can see that they are developing and updating some of the interiors and exteriors.. but that aside its great value for money and in an exceptional location being at the foot of The Wrekin. Ive stayed at this hotel maybe 4 times already this year when ive been in the area and its my go to place and a joy each time...if you are visiting the area then this is the hotel to stay in with direct access to beautiful walks straight from the hotel..

the decor isnt really to my taste but clean and very comfortable and the rooms have most of what you need.. there are a few issues with their key card system, the bar is a bit pricey and the whole place is 'cashless', which is a trend i dislike greatly.

Breakfast was good. Plenty of it. Room was clean and comfortable. The bed was a little firmer than we are used to, but we both slept very well. No loud noise or people moving about. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Location was excellent, a very quiet countryside hotel. Plenty of car parking space. Didn't have an evening meal here so unable to comment.

A couple of minor niggles with the room, one of the light bulbs were not working, should be checked by staff when making the room up, but could have gone after they left. The button on the thermostat control on the shower was missing so unable to increase the shower temperature above luke warm. Shower gels were not replaced. Might be worth taking your own.

The staff. They were polite and went the extra mile to help and make sure that everything was OK. The breakfast in the morning was really nice and tasty, it was meant to be served at 8am, but as we had somewhere to be they did serve us earlier then that.

I went with my mum, who is disabled and struggles to walk far and take stairs. They had a lift in the hotel, but unfortunately, it would not always work, so this resulted in great difficulty for my mum, who then had no choice but to use the stairs. On one occasion, I was not with her, and I could not take her wheels up the stairs whilst she walked, but the staff at reception was more than happy to help her.

Everything was lovely and as expected, whilst is is a little dated, it remains part of the charm and we enjoyed our visit greatly, we had our wedding reception here 39 years ago and the hotel lived up to our memories. We gathered here for a family reunion, the first in 45 years and everyone loved the hotel. The staff went above and beyond their roles to ensure we had a wonderful stay.

The hotel would benefit from a sign and or a bell on the bar in the lounge to call staff when unattended, other than that the hotel was great.

The Hotel is traditionally decorated and set in very pleasant grounds, overlooking some nice scenery. The room which I booked was very comfortable; it was a decent size, with tea & coffee making facilities and had the benefit of a balcony. It was extremely quiet and there was no street noise or noise from other guests. It was also very private and was not over-looked. The inclusive buffet breakfasts were extremely good, with a varied selection from which to choose. The Hotel also had inclusive safe free parking, which is a must. My husband and I would never consider booking anywhere that did not offer such on-site parking facilities. All in all, it met our expectations from what we had viewed online and the Staff were friendly.

Decor looked a little tired, but nothing that could not be rectified with some updating. Apart from that, nothing further occurs.

Lovely hotel , great room with small balcony overlooking garden area. Some initial confusion regarding our booking with our dog but very satisfied with the great customer service with the lovely reception staff. Lovely setting approx 1.5 miles out of town up on the The Wrekin, perfect for walkers and dog walking alike.

As we had our dog then as expected we were seated in the bar area for breakfast. However this was a bit of a walk from the self service area and no trays provided to carry items back to the table so several trips required. I feel some level of service or assistance could be offered here or a small set up in the bar for customers. My husband is registered blind and was unable to collect any items himself and of course one of you always has to stay with the dog. Unsure how a solo traveller with a dog is meant to collect there own breakfast !

The setting was awesome! I had the dour poster bed room and it was well equipped. If you like a good breakfast then they do a fantastic breakfast! The only challenge was they cancelled that on the Monday at 10 pm on Sunday - I guess due to low numbers in the hotel.

Late cancellation of breakfast... I'd be happy to go back but how do you work out if there'll be enough people in the hotel for them not to cancel breakfast. This one issue has put my score down 🤔

The staff were extremely polite and made every effort to accommodate us. For example I'm pescatarian... the only fish meal on the menu was the Fish & Chips. When I asked about other fish meals a staff member offered to ask the chef if he would Cook me a piece of fish.. although I declined, I was quite impressed by the staff that they would even offer to do this. For me this going above and beyond to provide great customer service. The manager was also very friendly and welcoming... showing my group to still sit and enjoy our meal even though it was closer to closing time for the dinner service. I also loved the views of the countryside which was visible from the parking lot.

I can't remember my room number, but My bed was a little uncomfortable... a little lumpy, so my sleep wasn't as good as it could have been. Also my door that leads out to the balcony could not be locked. In the defense of staff, I did not report these two issues. If I did I would have probably gotten a change of rooms.
