Stayed here for one night after a wedding in the Danby Castle Wedding Venue nearby. Such a lovely surprise... The room was extremely cosy and well decorated- Rustic yet not at all outdated. A lovely warm welcome on arrival, especially from the lady behind the bar who also showed me my room. I went down for a quick drink on my own before bed and even the regulars made me feel at home. The gentleman who looked after me at breakfast was a superstar too. I left feeling extremely guilty, given that feeling a little bit worse for wear, I wasn't actually able to eat my breakfast but everything looked great. A huge amount of effort is put in and he worked non stop to make sure everyone had everything they needed. All in all a fantastic stay.

I would have been happy to have stayed a little longer!

A very warm welcome by the owner and the locals in the pub. A very comfortable room in a quiet picturesque village The North Yorkshire landscape 😍😍 A short drive to the coast (Staithes, Robin Hoods bay, Whitby) A hearty delicious breakfast to help to start the day Highly recommend this establishment

Nothing to declare

Absolutely lovely place and location, great room,

We are both vegetarian (no egg) , so a few extra mushrooms/beans (one ramekin between 2) / toast (one slice each) etc would be appreciated. I noted that a single traveller got 2 slices of toast! Especially as we weren't eating all the 'expensive' meat stuff. Luckily , we're not that greedy at breakfast but still had to ask for one more slice of toast (got one between us!). Would still definitely stay again though, great place. But it would be nice if there a tiny.corner of the freezer for a couple of vegetarian sausages! Perhaps have a questionnaire on booking about dietary requirements?

We stayed for two nights as guests to a nearby wedding. The location was very handy, the scenery was beautiful, the bedrooms were modern and comfortable, the staff were lovely and friendly. Very comfy bed, plenty of hot water. The pub had a great selection of alcohol free drinks. They did stop serving and close pub at 11 so there was no noise from the pub in the rooms after this time.

The check out time was a little early at 10.15 which was only advised to us on the last morning during breakfast, this meant we did have to rush to pack to get out on time which was not ideal the morning after a late night! Probably best to advise it upfront, when I had asked upon check in it was advised as 11am.

Stayed here for a wedding down at Danby Castle. Room was clean and tidy. Minor down side for myself is that the windows appear not to open in the bedroom. Breakfast was decent and service both then and in the bar the previous night was good also.

Not a complaint just an observation for taller people.... Mind your head! Due to the buildings age many of the doorways are very low so be warned it does hurt if you're not careful!

Was touring around with my motorcycle. It was not a problem to find me safe off-road parking. The lady behind the bar was very accommodating and made me feel at home right from check-in. The food was excellent and reasonable priced. The room was well presented and very clean. Bed was comfortable and made for a good night's sleep after a long ride.that day. Breakfast was included in the price and was to the same standard as I came to expect. Well done, guys you will go on my list to revisit. THANK YOU .

Can't think of anything

The inn is a very charming old traditional property. Our en-suite room was comfortable, simply but elegantly furnished and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was very good indeed, dinner (which we paid for on our second night) was exceptional. (Wi-Fi reception was good.)

There was nothing we didn’t like.

The welcome and hospitality at the Duke of Wellington were excellent. We stayed for three nights and used the restaurant for dinner throughout our stay. The breakfast and dinner menu choices were really good and our meals were all delicious, the steak and ale pie was amazing. Our room was delightful, quiet and very comfortable. Danby is a great location for exploring the moors by foot, bike or car. Good access to Whitby and Scarborough.

Everything was good

Nice room, bath, good food (evening pub meals and breakfast). Lots of local characters and interesting visitors (at least when I was there). Less expensive than neighbouring coastal towns like Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay (where accommodation is also in short supply). There's a railway station within walking distance (about 1/3 mile from the inn). This is a Northern Rail service to Whitby (saves on parking costs and possible difficulties finding parking in Whitby). It goes to Middlesbrough in the other direction. It is NOT the steam North York Moors railway however!

Rather like another North York Moors village, Goathland (Heartbeat), the village is a fairly featureless place (nice scenery in the background though), just rows of houses built approaching the four sides of a crossroads (after driving through excellent scenery to get there). Apart from the Duke of Wellington and the railway station (Northern Rail, NOT North York Moors steam railway) there's not a huge amount to draw you to the village. ...Not the fault of those running the inn, of course!
