We loved our stay at the Cable Car Hotel in Knob Hill, San Francisco! We're kind of quirky people, and this is a quirky little hotel. We paid a bit extra for an ensuite bathroom (each floor has washrooms and bathrooms for the hostel-like rooms). The staff were all friendly and helpful. The place is an older Knob Hill house, but it's clean and comfy. BEST PARTS? A wonderful vegan cafe (Nourish) less than a minute's walk away on Hyde. A Trader Joe's kitty corner. A friendly pub next door for a quick drink after a long day at our conference. A half hour walk to the Moscone Convention Center. And, of course, it's right on a cable car route. We highly recommend Cable Car Hotel to anyone who prefers funky to concrete box.

Depending on who's staying there, it might not be the quietest night's stay, but the noise (it was happy noise) settled down in time for a good night's sleep. The elevator was out of order, so confirm that it's working if it's important to you.

The room was large, comfortable, the bed was nice. The fridge and microwave in the room were lifesavers. We had a ton of closet space as well. It was more than enough for two people. The area was also very nice, with plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance, and diagonal to a large supermarket. There were bus stops nearby as well. The people at the front desk were super nice, helped us with our bags, even let me use the shower after check out. The bathroom was shared, however we never had to wait to use it. All around a lovely experience for my first visit to San Francisco.

Room 405A. Nice, well maintained, great footed bathtub, excellent hot water in the tub. This is a residential hotel mainly and the monthly tenants are quiet and hospitable.

Can't think of anything that I did not enjoy. If you don't want a shared bathroom, make sure you specify a room with a private bath. It costs a little bit more, but was worth it to me at my age.

Location was good although quite noisy with the cable cars and traffic. Best bit was the price. Great value for money no frill place to explore SF. Staff were so helpful and made us very welcome.

Quite noisy but we were in the city and it was kind of nice by being woken to the sound of cable cars getting ready for day.

Hotel was very old, but clean. Was located on the tram tracks to downtown San Francisco. Could not walk far as Hotel was on a hill, so was hard, but tram was great.

Elevator was a bit creepy. There was a lot of people hanging around outside, which was also worrying. Glad they had 24 hour staff.

I was immediately pleasantly surprised when I walked into the hotel. It was so nice for such a cheap price per night. I was fully expecting and unclean in tiny room like other hotels I've stayed at in the area but it wasn't at all like that! My room was very large included with a fridge, TV, microwave, and sink in the corner, plus a little balcony area and a lot of room to move around. The staff was very generous, kind, and accommodating. they were very understanding when I accidentally ruined in a towel with my makeup and when I asked for a late check out on the final day. I would stay there again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone!

Clean and comfortable lodging for an older building. Excellent location, not too far to walk or transit to popular destinations, close to a CVS and trader Joe's for any essentials you might need and a great bar downstairs. Thanks for having me!

This is my second time staying here. I love it. I'm actually still here won't be checking out till the 12th and will def be back

I liked the customer service received from manager upon check-in, and his knowledge of the hotel location/area and surrounding area, for public transportation, shopping, and his ability to answer any of my queries.
